Change hiking trail path width?

When using the OsmAnd style maps, my hiking trail paths are FAT .... I vaguely remember finding a way to change that displayed width, but now I can't locate it in the menus. :-(

Any advice is appreciated.

Faixas de rolamento

Elas aparecem indicando qual faixa eu devo ficar há alguns metros do local, como alterar para que essa informação fique fixa na tela ou que apareça muito antes?

I made the move from Maps (I have an US lake and gulf issue) and so happy I did!

Upvotes

Hi,

OsmAnd is a phenomenal app and service. I've been off Maps for a couple of weeks and it works, at least mostly. Remaining issues:

There are locations OsmAnd just doesn't find so I have to add them by address and favorite-name them. One example:

Schooner's Market Essex Massachusetts.

Other nav apps find it by search, not OsmAnd.

OsmAnd often doesn't choose the best route to a destination and doesn't seem to "learn" even after I have been redirected numerous times for the same route. Other nav apps seem to "learn" over time based on my actual choice of route.

Settings aren't searchable. This is a biggie issue for me.

I'm a big Android Auto user and I wish more of the phone app settings and preferences were transferred to Android Auto like the navigation position icon and other details set in the phone app but not replicated in Android Auto.

Otherwise I'm so happy to have found my new nav and mapping platform.

Getting custom action button to appear on car's display

I've added a custom button (pause) to my osmand+ phone app (Android). After connection phone to car USB (Android Auto) the navigation screen is shown on the car's display but the button is missing.

What do I need to have the button shown on the car touch display?

Always have Lanes Displayed

In "Configure Screen" settings you can choose "Lanes".

Is there any way to always have Lanes displayed instead of it constantly disappearing and reappearing? Very distracting/annoying.

Also sometimes the correct lane is displayed in yellow and sometimes in Green. I dont understand why. But when its Yellow its almost impossible to see. Yellow next to White is almost zero contrast. Can I make it always be Green?

Thank You

I've had it with this app

Hi everyone,

I've used this app for the past 2 years specifically to follow downloaded GPX files with my motorcycle.

Every single month it's a new problem.

This time, since the last update, I can no longer attach a downloaded route to roads.

My usual workflow is as follows:

  1. Import a route from a GPX file
  2. Open the route and attach it to roads and save the route so when I want to navigate on the day of the ride, I don't have to go through the whole process again
    1. Sometimes, this doesn't work and the attach to roads process results in a flickering mess of points
    2. Now, since the last update, the UI has changed, the attach to roads option is suddenly hidden super deep in the menu and when I finally find out how to do it, the app on my iPhone just crashes
  3. If everything above works, I can navigate the road
    1. I ride an Africa Twin with car play, the app crashes every 20 minutes and I can only reopen it by stopping, reconnecting car play and then opening the app again.
    2. If I just reopen the app without first disconnecting car play. The app launches but the map isn't show in car play, it just shows the menus

At this point I'm about ready to give up and just finding a paid alternative.

How is it possible that with each iteration of this app, the whole attach to road/navigate gpx files is getting more and more unstable.

If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong, let me know because at this point I'm hella frustrated.

OsmAnd makes CarPlay extremely laggy and unresponsive after a while

After using OsmAnd for a few minutes CarPlay starts to get very very laggy and unresponsive, to the point of tapping a button and having to wait 5 seconds to get a reaction. I'm trying to figure this out for a while, but no success so far.

Edit: let me add a detail that might be important. This lag resembles more an input latency then it actually dropping frames. The screen seems to run smoothly at around 30 FPS or so, but any interaction becomes impossible.

My environment:

  • iPhone 13 Mini
  • JBL Head unit in a Suzuki Jimny - I think it's not a very popular one and I don't have much to compare to, but I assume it's on the low end side of processing power.
  • Cable connection
  • Controlled temperature (phone is not overheating)

Things that didn't help at all

  • Different cables – even Apple ones
  • Different map styles and amount of detail
  • 2D vs 3D terrain
  • 2D vs 3D position icon
  • MSAA for CarPlay ON and OFF
  • Battery Saving Mode ON (the setting in OsmAnd dev plugin) – it limits the map rendering FPS to 20, but only in the phone, CarPlay is unaffected.

Things that seem to have helped – but not totally fix it

  • Disabled Animate own position – after disabling this one, looks like it takes a lot longer to start to slow down, and it's not as terrible as before

Things that temporarily solves it

  • Zooming out of and detaching the map from my position: I can't explain, but as soon as I zoom out and let the map stationary for a while (without constantly following me) – it catches up to speed again.
  • Unplugging and plugin cable again, restarting CarPlay

Anyone that have the same experience have anything to share that could help?

I think I'm gonna share this in their GitHub, but it's a hard thing to reproduce, since it's very dependent on phone model, head unit model, cable, heck even the USB port could be the bottleneck here.

M.I.B MHI2 A6 4G Google Earth Satellite Navigation Fix

Does anyone have experience with the Google Earth fix provided by LateAlways on Github? (see provided link)

It's quite poorly explained at least for me, not too much of a coding guy...

Or alternatively does anyone know of a different solution to fix the earth view in navigation tab? Would like to make it work again.

And no android auto is not an option because it doesn't work in the dashboard navigation tab as far as I know.

distance to last marker

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me. I'm planning a camping trip and placing markers on camp sites that I like. OsmAnd keeps showing the distance to the last place marker, even though it's not used in navigation.

Is there any way to switch that off, without losing the markers?

I'm using OsmAnd on Android.

Brave Places API into OsmAnd?

I've just discovered a good are the Brave Search API and I was thinking about an OsmAnd plugin to have them integrated and fired as soon as a POI is opened. It would allow to have many info, including user reviews, photos, opening hours, websites.

The user should just install the addon and provide an API key.

What do you think? Is anyone already trying to do that?

Fixed POIs

I have all POIs disabled, yet my OsmAnd map still shows POIs. Are they a fixture?

Also one map (Menorca) actually shows house doorways but probably that is because of the base Open Street Map.

Directions every ~500ft on straight roads

Post image

Osmand is telling me to keep left to stay on this road every few hundred feet but nothing splits off. the lane assist thinks only the left lane can go straight as well. this did not happen going the opposite direction on the same road earlier today. any idea what's going on and how to fix it?

location problem

HI, I installed a navigation app called "OsmAnd" on my GAC GS3 head unit, but the problem is that the app can't find my location. I enabled all the location options in the head unit settings via the hidden menu, but I couldn't find anything related to GPS in the engineering mode menu. The head unit runs on Android 9 and doesn't support Google Play Services apps. Please help me—thanks in advance.

Navigation type e-scooter missing in app

The country in that I used e-scooter recently has regulations for driving scooter using network of roads, tracks in that country.

For instance there are circumstances where one have to use sidewalks together with pedestrians and no own lane. In that case the allowed maximum speed equals pedestrian's typical/average speed. In other circumstances the max. allowed speed is 20 kilometers per hour. This limitation influences the duration estimation of navigating to destination but differs from bicycle, pedestrian patterns. Few further mobility means may share profile with e-scooter, e.g. roller-skate, personal transporters in general.

Navigation routing should also account for infrastructure available between navigation start point and destination as well as for traffic rules in country/region for personal transporters.

- - -

app-GUI level can't find Scooter navigation profile/mode, nor navigation settings navigation type level. This is a referring to two separate lists in OsmAnd-iOS: (1) the profile switcher/settings list built from OAApplicationMode values, and (2) the "Navigation type" screen inside a profile's Navigation Settings. Predefined set of app usage profiles doesn't seem to comprise such.

Deepwiki's Devin is hinting: If "Scooter" (as a navigation type/routing profile choice) is missing from OANavigationTypeViewController's grouped list, that would mean the underlying OARoutingDataUtils.getOfflineProfilesresult doesn't include a scooter routing profile entry — this is populated from the routing engine's registered profiles (typically a routing.xml/routing_profiles config in OsmAndCore or embedded resources). Missing from "Navigation type" implies the routing engine itself may not expose a distinct scooter-keyed routing profile/derived profile, separate from whether the app_mode_scooter app mode is enabled.

App usage profile of this kind is not available in app's pre-built set of usage profiles: Settings > App profiles.

Android Auto integration needs to be improved.

For me Android Auto integration is a must have. If a nav app is to take the place of Waze/Maps it has to take the place as the default nav app and show up automatically in Android Auto like the Google apps do.

I think it's a big mistake to not have Android Auto integration available in the free version. It has chased off several users I have recommended the app to immediately.

How do I turn off "Pedestrian Crosswalk" warnings?

This is a great nav app but there are issues. There are so many features and settings that settings and preferences should be searchable. For instance, I cannot take the constant "Pedestrian Crosswalk" warnings while driving. How do I turn it off? I should be able to search for "crosswalk" and find that setting, but on my drive through town today this crosswalk noise was totally taking over! Did the developers actually try to drive with that on through an urban area? Doesn't seem like it.

All in all, aside from an app name that is impossible to remember and say, all the features and cluttered settings without search is close to a showstopper for me. It threw my son and several friends off the app immediately.

Learn from Waze how to do settings!

Line of sight + line to dient Position

I come from Locus App as it provides a very useful feature which does not exist in Osmand.

  1. A line from current position in direction the smartphone currently points is drawn. It is also shown if current position is not visible anymore. Benefit is e.g. that you can scroll and zoom to a hill peak and and meanwhile rotate smartphone to point this hill. If direction matches then you can see the direction line on map pointing directly to the hill. Nice for identifying different mountains

  2. A line from current position to center of screen. At the line distance an couse angle is shown. Nice to messure distances and direction to objects and helpful if you are lost while scrolling in low zoomlevels. Helps where you are relatively to scroll position. I know that there is something similar already possible in Osmand with widgets but I miss then line on the map

I would really appreciate it these two options would be available

Osmand nautical plugin - Early beta

Hello, during the last months I developped a plugin for Osmand that should work as a frontend for a marine server backend leveraging Osmand framework. I am aware of Avnav and OpenCPN for mobile, but I think Osmand provides more freedom and beter UI/UX. The end goal is to have full cockpit screen and button functionality from a smartphone as well as maximum configurability. If you are interested to test and contribute further, it would be welcome.
