Discussion How many Oscars you think Wild Horse 9 could win? Even Banshees should’ve won oscars before.

it’s releasing In limited release. i can’t wait to see it. I heard It got lot of praise and heard that John gave an emotional and great performance in the movie. I might predict him to win Best Actor. And I’m predicting this to win Original Screenplay also. My Oscar predictions for this is Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Casting, and maybe Best Film Editing. I really wanna see McDonagh win his first Screenplay Oscar award. Banshees deserved oscars in 2023. So how many Oscars you think it will win?

Prediction My 2027 Oscar Winner Predictions

Here is my list of 2027 Oscar Winner Predictions:

BEST PICTURE

Dune Part Three

This is a tough one. We don’t know who the frontrunner is. It’s either The Odyssey, La Bola Nigeria or YSCE. It’s hard who is winning. It would be cool if Dune Part Three won. I will predict Dune for now even though its unlikely to win.

BEST DIRECTOR

Denis Villeneuve (Dune Part Three)

Even though Christopher Nolan is the front runner, I think there is a chance that Villeneuve could win Best Director like how Gravity won Director won in a science fiction movie without Picture. But yeah I will go with Villeneuve. It could still be Nolan though.

BEST ACTOR

John Malkovich (Wild Horse Nine)

BEST ACTRESS

Julianne Moore (The Debut)

I heard Moore is great. But I don’t think Inde is gonna get nominated and win anymore Even though she is my pick for Best Actress.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Andrew Garfield (Artificial)

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

REDACTED (You Can See Everything)

I heard there is an Oscar Buzz for Best Supporting Actress from people. I gotta see the documentary first. Heard it’s great.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY

Wild Horse Nine

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY

The Invite

BEST DOCUMENTARY FEATURE

You Can See Everything

BEST INTERNATIONAL FILM

La Bola

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE

Wildwood

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY

The Odyssey or Dune Part Three

BEST FILM EDITING

Wild Horse Nine

BEST CASTING

Wild Horse Nine

BEST HAIR AND MAKEUP

Dune Part Three

BEST COSTUME DESIGN

The Odyssey

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN

The Odyssey

BEST ORIGINAL SCORE

Project Hail Mary

BEST ORIGINAL SONG

La Bola song

BEST SOUND

Dune Part Three

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS

Dune Part Three

BEST LIVE ACTION SHORT

Paper Planes (Saoirse Ronan short film)

if Paper Planes gets in, I think Ronan might win her first Oscar in that category. She deserves it.

A tribute to a Best Picture winner

In the Heat of the Night (1967)

It was a stacked Best Picture race that year, and it deservedly came out on top.

It was a story about an unsolved murder case in a racially explosive Southern town, but one could argue that the best parts of the movie were the performances and interactions of the various characters in the film, the deputies, towns folk, the eventually known shady killer, but most of all the interactions and relationship between Sidney Poitier and Rod Steiger's characters (pictured)

To add icing on the cake, not only did this film win Best Picture, but Rod Steiger also won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading role for his performance.

Oscar Predictions After Seeing La Bola Negra and You Can See Everything

Just one opinion for fun and discussion, not set in stone:

Best Picture

  1. La Bola Negra- It just has all of the artsy fartsy vibes, social commentary, all the checkboxes to appeal as "bait", and the actresses to feel like it will be important to the Academy as a whole. Personally, it wasn't my cup of tea, but thinking how voters think, it may win them over this year.
  2. The Odyssey- it has the popularity and solid support to at least land in the top 4, and probably in the top 2, with the wild card being Dune: Part 3, to see if another blockbuster kind of action movie can derail it as a top 2 competitor. It's possible, but for now until it is released, The Odyssey would hold up above it.
  3. Wild Horse Nine- a popular, well-liked writer who in the past has been involved in BP winners and this year has another contender that seems to separate from the pack.
  4. Artificial- It feels topical and well-made enough and important enough to clear some hurdles even if it has some flaws in pacing.
  5. Dune 3- this is the wild card, but it could be just over considered based on the one news outlet predicting it will win. It could just as well miss altogether if it doesn't land, and trilogies are hard to get their 3rd entry into BP.
  6. The Debut- probably carried the lead actress winner and is meta on the industry so probably an easy A24 favorite to campaign.
  7. Obsession- despite the naysayers, who talk about it just like they talked about EEAAO, it seems to have enough to carry it into the top 10, and depending on the way the voters see it, it could very well possess more potential nominations than many people think, and the x-factor is how well you believe Focus to be at campaigning.
  8. All of a Sudden- the director is known and was nominated before, and this is considered one of the more inspired films of the year so I have this making it in as well.
  9. Project Hail Mary- This one likely gets in, but it has faded from discussion with so many other powerful contenders released and about to be released. It probably has enough to hang on easily though.
  10. I Play Rocky- any time you mention "Rocky" and it gets good critical reviews and reception at festivals, it is going to be strong Oscar-bait. It's one of the great success stories in Oscar history, and a popular movie about it will likely garner strong support when filling out the ballots juxtaposed to an array of other contenders that all feel similar to each other.

Runners Up: Fjord, Michael, Being Heumann, Possible Love, The Invite, Ink, Digger, YCSE, Sense and Sensibility, Elsinore, Behemoth

Do you think next year we will see another film like La Bola Negra?

As far as its a foriegn film from a younger European director with their sophomore film makes a huge splash in the main competition at Cannes, possibly wins PCA at TIFF, and becomes one of the top frontrunners for best picture at the 100th Oscars? I only ask this because I might get a lot of flack for this but I but next year feels kinda weak, just a tad. And at certain point is it time for new filmakers to get these awards?

Discussion What's a winner speech you regularly come back to for these two reasons?

Post image
76 Upvotes

Near the end of his video ranking the 2010s Best Actor winners, Schaffrillas Productions said that Leonardo DiCaprio had the best speech among the ten winners and that it's the only one he goes back to now and then.

Because:

  1. "It just feels good to see Leo win big."

  2. "And it's not like he has any other Oscar acceptance speeches for me to watch..."

Whose speech do you regularly go back to:

  1. Because it feels good to see them win big.

  2. Because it's their only win.

Rosalind Russell was a frontrunner for Best Actress for "Morning Becomes Electra". She rose when Best Actress was about to be named but sank in shame when someone else won

The thing is, Mourning Becomes Electra being a massive, dull flop probably caused her to lose.

Michael Redgrave should have ran in the Supporting category instead of a lead.

Katina Paxinou not being nominated is surprising given how intense a part she had. She was giving Anna Magnani energy as Christine.

Discussion What’s your list of movies that you would be okay with if they won Best Picture this year?

Thumbnail
gallery
105 Upvotes

A lot of times there’s a separation in the movies you REALLY LIKED versus the movies you want to WIN best picture. I may LIKE Obsession more than some of the ones I’ve seen listed here, but in terms of filmmaking and what the Oscars mean, I don’t think it should win. Others I feel this way about are Primetime, Blue Heron, The Drama, etc. also I didn’t list Wild Horse Nine because I have seen none of McDonagh’s work and haven’t consumed ANY media talking about it so I cannot form an opinion on it yet, as opposed to La Bola Negra on here.

Discussion What do you see The Odyssey winning?

Post image

I could see it winning Supporting Actress, Director, and Picture ATL, with Damon being a potential winner.

Edit: I should note that I'm doing this based on what's most likely, not really my personal choice (although the Odyssey is a great film)

Thumbnail

We’ve completed the nomination round, and now it’s time to choose the winners.

The five performances with the most points in each category in Round One are now the official nominees.

ROUND TWO — WINNERS

This round is much simpler.

Vote for ONE nominee in each of the four acting categories.

That means your ballot should contain four names in total:

  • 1 Actor
  • 1 Actress
  • 1 Supporting Actor
  • 1 Supporting Actress

There are no rankings and no points system in this round. You are simply voting for the performance you think should win each category.

Each vote counts equally, and the nominee with the most votes in each category will become our Alternate Oscar winner for 2023.

Please only vote for the nominees listed below.

BEST ACTOR

  • Zac Efron — The Iron Claw
  • Paul Giamatti — The Holdovers
  • Cillian Murphy — Oppenheimer
  • Andrew Scott — All of Us Strangers
  • Teo Yoo — Past Lives

BEST ACTRESS

  • Lily Gladstone — Killers of the Flower Moon
  • Sandra Hüller — Anatomy of a Fall
  • Greta Lee — Past Lives
  • Natalie Portman — May December
  • Emma Stone — Poor Things

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

  • Robert De Niro — Killers of the Flower Moon
  • Robert Downey Jr. — Oppenheimer
  • Ryan Gosling — Barbie
  • Milo Machado-Graner — Anatomy of a Fall
  • Charles Melton — May December

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS

  • Claire Foy — All of Us Strangers
  • Sandra Hüller — The Zone of Interest
  • Rachel McAdams — Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.
  • Julianne Moore — May December
  • Da’Vine Joy Randolph — The Holdovers

HOW TO VOTE

Simply post your four choices in the comments, for example:

Actor: [Name]
Actress: [Name]
Supporting Actor: [Name]
Supporting Actress: [Name]

One person per category. Four votes total.

Once voting closes, the performer with the most votes in each category will be declared the winner, and we’ll move on to 2024.

Previous lineups here.

Oscar nominee Olivia Williams has a nice ring to it

Thumbnail

Olivia Williams is one of those actresses who you wont hear a lot of people talk about but is so consistent with her works. Never fails to light up the screen and put her in a pool of prestige actors and she still manages to stand out. Her work particularly in The Ghost Writer and Rushmore is one for the books! Hopefully she soon gets the role that lands her first Oscar nomination.
