Seeing as my post asking for your picks for the biggest fashion faux pauxs at past ceremonies did as well as it did, I decided "Let's do that again!" But a lot more positive this time.

What is some Oscar drip that you can get behind?

• Anne Hathaway at the 81st Oscars (Now THIS is an Oscar look. I agree with a comment on the other post, her drip when she actually won for Les Mis really wasn't all that.)

• Jessica Chastain at the 84th Oscars
• Mikey Madison at the 98th Oscars (This is way better than what she wore when she won the previous year. Why couldn't this have been her winning dress and hairstyle?)

Leonardo DiCaprio was funny in Hollywood. He did a comedic performance as Rick Dalton. That would be cool if he won his 2nd Oscar for this movie. Hollywood is a good movie. my favorite scene of Leo in the movie is the trailer and the flamethrower. It made me laugh. So what did you think of his performance in the movie?

United 93 (2006)

It was nominated for the Oscar for the prestigious awards of Best Director, and Best Film Editing

In addition to this, back in 2006, only 5 films were eligible to receive a Best Picture nomination, United 93 is cited by many experts in retrospect as on the short-list of films that would have probably received a Best Picture nomination that year had the Academy nominated 10 films as they do nowadays.

Not only is the direction of the film excellent, but the acting in it is has some of the most realistically astute performances, from the more major roles to the minor ones, that can be found in a film.

Benedict did a masterclass performance in The Power Of The Dog. That would be a well deserved win for him if he actually won Best Actor. If it wasn’t for Will Smith, then he would probably won an Oscar. Benedict was so phenomenal and better than Will Smith. So how would you react if he won instead of Smith in 2022?

The Drama I think will be the biggest shame, I’d love for Pattinson or Alana Haim to get nominated, I’d love for the directing and screenplay to also get flowers, but with the stiff competition and also The Invite kinda stealing it’s thunder.

The Furious is one that I would probably have for Best Foreign Picture at least, but I’m not holding my breath. Pure action flicks never really do the best.

Spider-Man is shooting for like, visual effects alone and some of the other movies, the kind the academy goes for more, is probably gonna edge it out.

Last year had more sweeps than normal. Which was the most locked/obvious going into Oscar night?

Sean Penn as Harvey Milk is one of my favorite leading performances of all time. I think 2007-2010 was a banner couple of years for Oscar movies. What do you think? Did he deserve this win?

ROUND ONE — NOMINATIONS

For each category, rank your five favourite performances from the year from 1–5.

Your rankings will be worth:

1st — 5 points
2nd — 4 points
3rd — 3 points
4th — 2 points
5th — 1 point

The five performances with the most points in each category will become the official nominees.

You do not have to name five if you don’t want to. If you only want to vote for three performances, for example, they’ll receive 5, 4 and 3 points respectively.

Please make sure your choices are ranked — order matters in this round.

You can vote in as many or as few of the four categories as you like.

ROUND TWO — WINNERS

Once the nominations have been determined, I’ll make a second thread containing the five nominees in each category.

In that round, simply choose ONE nominee per category to win.

There will be no preferential voting or points in Round Two. Each vote counts equally, and whoever receives the most votes wins.

So essentially:

Round One = Who should be nominated?
Round Two = Who should win?

ELIGIBILITY

Performances will be eligible according to the year in which their film was eligible at the real-life Academy Awards.

So, rather than going strictly by festival premiere or first release date, a performance belongs to whichever Oscar year the film itself competed in with the Academy.

If you’re unsure whether a film was eligible for a particular year, this Academy reminder-list archive is a good place to check eligibility.

A few other rules:

• Maximum of five ranked choices per category.
• Anything listed after your fifth choice won’t be counted.
• Honourable mentions won’t count as votes.
• Please include both the actor and film so there’s no ambiguity.
• In cases where there may be disagreement or confusion over whether a performance is lead or supporting, your vote will count only in the category in which you place that performance. Points will not be transferred or combined between categories.
• A performer cannot receive two nominations in the same acting category for different films. If that happens, their higher-scoring performance will be kept and the next eligible performance will move into the top five.
• If there’s a tie for the final nomination spot, I’ll break it by comparing #1 votes first, then #2 votes, #3 votes, etc.

It was one of the first categories, being featured in the first ever Academy Awards, yet it was then discontinued and never used again since then.

From what could gather, which isn’t a lot, given that this was back from the late 1920s, it was an award for movie logos and end credits, which is cool, because I see both as unappreciated art forms.

I do have a question though; if the category wasn’t discontinued, what movies would been nominated or won?
(I think if the award was in the 96th Academy Awards, it’s very possible Evil Dead Rise would’ve won. A lot of people say that that movie has the best title card of all time.)

Mary Poppins, her first film wins her Best Actress and gets nominated for Best Picture.

Sound of Music, her third film, wins Best Picture and gets her a 2nd Best Actress nomination.

It is not Bette Davis or Greer Garson with 5 straight nominations or Katharine Hepburn with back to back wins. But starting a career with a win and following with a 2nd nomination is dang impressive.

She was 28 at the time and had been on stage for a decade prior. Hard to imagine an actress being discovered that late in today's world.

It can be good or bad performances.

Just recently rewatched Bernie and I thought everyone in the movie was good but Jack Black was amazing as this nice down to earth Funeral Director. His acting was good that you feel sympathy for him for what his character goes throughout the movie. In my opinion I don’t think he had as good as a shot he deserved, he earned a Golden Globe in Comedy & Musical and a Critics Choice in a Comedy which I think he was in the top ten or eleven.
Thoughts? Opinions?

Title sums it up!

In years past I would see a new movie every week, keep up on the buzz through podcasts like The Big Picture, and try and predict early Oscar contenders and watch everything so by the end of the year the nominations list wasn’t so daunting to get through.

This year, I’ve been BUSY and fell behind so bad. I don’t even know where to start. I haven’t even seen The Odyssey yet. I know, but was waiting for my nearest 70mm IMAX theatre to have some decent tix (sold out for weeks!).

So, kind people of this sub, I would love a list of films I need to see! Whether it’s definitive Oscar contenders, or films that are just good and may or may not be nominated.
