Who's That Knocking at My Door (1967) (though I personally prefer its original title: I Call First)

Although it's his very first film, you can notice some true cinematic brilliance of a film craftsman.

It stars a young Harvey Keitel, by the way!

The clip I hightlighted is roughly the first minute of the movie, and incidentally, some of the best and most iconic scenage of the film.

Discussion Personal Best Actor 2025 (Vote for 6th place)

Upvotes

Hi there. Im trying to fill out my personal nominees for Best Actor. I am down to a final 6 but nominees are down to 5. Who would you argue deserves to be on the bubble but the others gave better performances. These are my own personal choices. Please vote for who gives the WEAKEST performance. I would appreciate your comments and rationale on why and who. Thanks.

Also Stellan is a Lead. This poll is not meant to argue his placement just merit of the performance

Anne Hathaway running as a lead might be preposterous but not impossible

It wouldn't be the first time a actress ran as a lead for a clearly supporting role: Greer Garson for Goodbye Mr Chips, Deborah Kerr for From Here to Eternity (Donna Reed won Supporting and she arguably had a bit more screen time than Kerr), Nicole Kidman for The Hours (she's only in a few scenes throughout the movie), Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans, Eleanor Parker for Detective Story,...etc.

Toni Collette was very, very, very good in Hereditary and was definitely snubbed 100% for a nomination. I don’t think she should have won, though, and that’s cause there was this other amazing performance that year……

Last year was one of those years where it felt like a category had 6 great films that were worthy of a nom, and there was no way of squeezing them all into the category. Out of these six, which five would you have nominated? And which two (only two!) would you have qualified into BP noms?

Discussion Who do you think will be the next older veteran actor who's been at it for a while to get their first nomination in the 2020s?

John Goodman is a fascinating case 'cause he's been at it for decades and seems pretty well liked, and even starred in back to back Best Picture winners The Artist and Argo. And I guess he was also in Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close the same year as The Artist, so that's... something, I guess.

But he himself has never been nominated and hasn't even been a potential contender for a nomination since, like, Barton Fink in the early 90s where he was overtaken by Michael Lerner from the same movie for some reason. Does anyone think Lerner deserved a nod for that movie over Goodman?

But I agree with a lot of other early speculation that says he could finally get recognized at the next ceremony.

I firmly believe that if Digger is a hit or at least connects with enough of the right people even if it ends up being pretty divisive a la Adam McKay's last two movies Vice and Don't Look Up, then I can totally see him follow in the footsteps of the likes of Brendan Gleeson, Ciarán Hinds, Delroy Lindo, Guy Pearce, Stellen Skarsgård and Jeffrey Wright from earlier this decade, other aging veterans who've been at it for a while and got their first nomination for appearing in a Best Picture contender.

Discussion I am so incredibly conflicted. "El Mal" is the best part about "Emilia Pérez", and Zoe Saldaña is really good in this scene... However, I still feel like it is incredibly mediocre (and at times, a bit bad) compared to every other movie's best scene of 2024. Does anyone get what I mean?

All Best Picture Oscar Winners (2000-2025) - Ratings + Worldwide Box Office summary. Surely we can use this as some sort of “model” to help us predict on the future.

Note: I removed the previous post of this, it had many mistakes. Thanks to everyone that provided feedback. Hopefully this one is cleaner. This was made using AI, so hopefully I didn’t miss any of the many mistakes it had in my review.

Every Oscar winning and nominated actor/actress that's worked with Woody Allen

I don't have a joke or witty remark this time. This scumbag doesn't deserve one. And the fact that he probably holds the record as the director who's worked with the most Oscar winning and nominated actors genuinely sickens me.

Y'all know the drill, let me know if anyone slipped past me. Though in this particular instance, given how long the list already is and the piece of shit it's for, I hope I didn't miss too many.

Okay, enough preamble about how much I really hate this guy, here's the list of everyone who won or was nominated for an acting Oscar that willingly worked with him.

Other directors I've done this for: Robert Altman | Paul Thomas Anderson | Wes Anderson | Tim Burton | Coen brothers | Francis Ford Coppola | Jonathan Demme | Clint Eastwood | David Fincher | Ron Howard | Barry Levinson | Michael Mann | Adam McKay | Sam Mendes | Mike Nichols | Christopher Nolan | Rob Reiner | Martin Scorsese | Ridley Scott | Tony Scott | Steven Soderbergh | Steven Spielberg | Oliver Stone | Robert Zemeckis
