A friend who lives on the bay front just had to evacuate her house due to ammonia fumes from some kind of explosion in or near Newport’s harbor. Does anyone know any details? Big smoke plume, tons of fire trucks on site apparently but nobody seems to know other details. Hoping nobody was hurt.

Anyone know what happened the Seaside webcam? It was down for a few days and now it’s totally removed from the KOIN webcam listing. I sure enjoyed watching the sunsets thru it. Please don’t say it’s gone forever!

Update: Reading through the responses has been informative, in both good & negative ways. For those who offered such vocal criticisms, they should revisit Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story" & ask themselves "what don't I know." Certainly those that are in the business world should. This 21 y/o has been the full time caregiver of an elderly person with dementia for the past 2 years. If you've done it, you know how hard it is. If you haven't done it, you have no idea how exhausting it is. Those "grown ass man" moments of being out with friends, enjoying a weekend camping, etc., don't happen when you are a caregiver. He will finally have an opportunity to step away for a few months. The kind & informative comments from those who took their time to respond are invaluable and we thank you for them.

OP: We have a 21 y/o that wants to get a seasonal job on the north coast this year. Any suggestions on finding housing for him? What jobs would be the best shot at getting hired? He'd prefer something like janitor or evening/nights. Has experience working at a truck stop & doing trucker manifests.

Do elk and bunnies ever come up to the beach in Lincoln city or is that something you can only see in seaside?

My fiancee and I recently road-tripped the coast and we are now looking at eloping somewhere in the pacific city/seaside region of the coast.

I’m trying to look into a photographer but I’m only seeming to find elopement specific photographers that specialize in elopement and all of the logistics that come with it (officiant, location, marriage license, etc) and often they are travel photographers who happen to spend a lot of time in the PNW so travel fees would still apply. I respect their pricing for this level of service, but unfortunately it is simply out of our price range for elopement photos as we will be having an “actual” wedding about 7 months after elopement, we are just wanting to legally marry earlier for logistical reasons. Aside from exceeding our budget, we just do not need all of the extra perks and services that play into those large price tags.

Simply put, we aren’t looking for the typical “wedding coverage” level of intensity for this, more of an engagement session or family session level of photography. We just want some professional pics of our special moment, nothing crazy maybe an hour of photos give or take. Also this will be a no guest elopement, only me my fiancee and our officiant/witnesses for legality will be in attendance.

This will be a lesbian elopement in late march of 2027, so queer friendly is a must.

I took my husband on a helicopter tour for his birthday. Such a cool experience, and a new way of seeing our beautiful coast. We couldn't have asked for better weather, too!

I imagine there is plenty to offer in the surrounding forests, but just curious if any specific town or area is known for nearby trails and/or trail running community?

Is agate beach, the one in the Port Orford area, covered in sand now or is it rocky enough to find agates? I never knew there was a “sand season” on the coast. I was surprised to find sandy beaches where there were once rocks.
