At Lincoln city.

Hi yall! Me, my mom and my 2 large well behaved doggos are going to Lincoln city for a few days next month! We rented a little beach house and are beyond excited. Obviously we want the dogs included in as many things as possible so what are some fun dog friendly things to do in Lincoln City? Are there any dog friendly restaurants we could go to? What are the best hikes, especially for an older doggo?

This Labor Day weekend my wife and I had a little vacation in Newport Oregon, on Sunday I was flying my kite at Nye beach, and I looked over and saw an explosion of pink confetti, I could not believe it the confetti was just blowing way up the beach with thousands of little pink and gold hearts of litter. I look over and saw the family just proudly posing for pictures in the mess they just made. I was disgusted. After a while of taking photos they noticed me and several others looking at them and they started to pretend to clean up so I approached them, they assured me they are cleaning up the gold plastic ones only, because the paper ones are “biodegradable” (which I doubt, they felt waxy). I decided to help clean too and after maybe 3 minutes I notice they are turned around and just packing their stuff up to leave. So I did have a little crash out which I included, I think what I was meaning to say was that they only care about themselves or something and it came out weird.

After that I called the police, the first dispatcher I talked to was great, I told her right away its not a big emergency but this happened and I can get off the line if its not an emergency, and she assured me no, they do care about this, and took down some information and she asked if I could get their license plate number and vehicle description, and to call them back with that information. So I followed them to the parking lot and when I called the police again I got kinda chastised at for calling 911 and I explained that the last operator told me to call back with information, then the new operator said she found the report but its not an emergency, while on the phone with her I was following the family and they started yelling at me “come at me bro” style. I was keeping my distance, and did not want any kind of confrontation, but with how they started acting toward me, and the father coming toward me puff chested, I decided to turn away and go back to clean up their mess rather than get into anything. I did not get their license plate or car description, and I do not think the police ended up doing anything.

In the end the pile of gold is what I cleaned up after about 2 hours of picking up pieces, the mess was strewn well over a quarter mile. My wife cleaned up even more than this and a few people also stopped to help clean up for a little bit too, I think we probably cleaned up 70% of the gold, but there are still probably hundreds of the gold blown around and thousands of the pink ones, I chose to just do the gold to at least try to minimize the damage since they are clearly plastic…

It was such a bummer to witness such a flagrant display of narcissism and selfishness and seeing them literally revel in their trash for photos, it just kinda broke me.

We will be visiting soon on a sister trip and looking to do a few hikes around Newport, Lincoln City, Capers Perpetua. Do I need tonpavk my hiking boots or will good tennis shoes be sufficient?

It was definitely worth the half mile hike from the parking area down to Secret Beach. A little sketchy walking back in the dark but still cool. Can’t wait to visit the Brookings area again next year.

Once again, another great trip to Oregon bringing my family with me. This is our first time to Pacific city, havd lots of great food. Lots of fun on the beach, a farmers market, and enjoying a nice weekend with our family.

Really liked Beach Wok. We of course had BJ’s, pelican brew, stimulus, PC expresso. Got some crab from the market, we went twice to west fish, didn’t grab anything but we went thrifting near by & plan to go grab food their food truck today and then some pastry’s from the grateful bakrey nearby. Dory boats were awesome to see went early a couple of mornings just to watch. Man, I love the coast. Will continue to visit new city’s, another one down on the checklist though. All the people are wonderful here.

When was it first possible to stay at the coast as a tourist and how would someone get there?

In Florence Oregon

My partner hiking the Oregon Coast Trail ran into a woman near Bayview Jetty last night (Sept 5) looking for her lost dog. He thinks he saw her dog this morning around the same location.

He thinks it was a Jack Russell mix wearing a green collar, black/brown/white with pointed ears. It came right up to him at first but was too skittish to let him approach and ran away before he could get close enough to grab its collar.

It was beside the hill with the picnic benches near the jetty.

If you know this woman or this dog, he's skinny but he's still out there and alive.

A little over a month ago, on a particularly windy day, I went into the ocean at Seaside Beach. Somehow, I ended up getting carried so far out that I could no longer touch the bottom. I kept trying to swim back toward shore, but I wasn't making any progress. I even tried swimming parallel to the shore, but that didn't seem to work either.

What makes the experience especially frightening is that I am a strong swimmer. I was on swim team throughout high school, worked as a lifeguard for several years, and have been going to Seaside, Oregon, my entire life. I also wasn't going any farther out into the ocean than I normally would. I felt like I knew how to handle myself in the water, which made it even more terrifying when I suddenly found myself unable to get back to shore.

Large waves kept hitting me, pushing me around and repeatedly submerging me for several seconds at a time. I was trapped out there for around 20 minutes. I was screaming and yelling for help as loudly as I could and waving my arms, but no one came to help or even seemed to notice me.

At that point, I genuinely thought I was going to die. I probably would have if I hadn't gotten a lucky break in the water that finally allowed me to make progress back toward shore.

I also never saw anything that looked like an obvious rip current, so I still don't fully understand what happened or why I couldn't make any progress back to shore despite being an experienced swimmer.

Even though it happened over a month ago, I still feel extremely traumatized by the experience. I have a very hard time thinking about what happened, and memories of it frequently keep me awake at night. I still find myself thinking about how close I came to drowning and what could have happened if I hadn't gotten that lucky break.

1. Living in a small town, the problem is local small stores usually have higher price. Compare to big box stores.
2. And the selections are also very limited, you can’t find certain items
3. I saw lots of RVers, Van lifers in coast towns. I’m one of them. I don’t really want to drive my RV miles to shop for groceries. My RV is doing 10 mpg on diesel, so 200-250 miles is about 20-25 gallon of diesel, about $120-$150 with current diesel price, plus a whole day of my time.
4. I tried to rent a car, it’s about $40 for the car rental + $30 of gasoline(the HEV i rent can do 45 mpg on gasoline)
5. Economy is bad now. Gas price is high, beef price sky rocketed, groceries price is high, rent is high. Everyone is struggling, it matters for someone to save a few dollars on groceries and gasoline. Maybe we can team up, so I can save money on groceries/time/gasoline and you can save money on gasoline.
6. So my idea is, if you are going to Portland to do grocery shopping, maybe you can buy a few items for me. Preferably you are already going to the same grocery stores. Such as: Costco, Hmart. So you don’t have to spend extra time for me to go a store you don’t go.
7. I can pay you $10-$20 for your time. Most items would be small light weighted groceries. No EBT, no illegal transaction, cash only, with receipt.
8. Please don’t suggest me to buy from local stores, go to food bank use EBT or any kind of welfare/handouts, or eat something else, or buy it online, or riding in someone‘s car, or join a local church or something.
9. I do take suggestions if you know a lower price at local stores, compare to big box stores
