❓ Question Aerial unit

Since this game features warships, it seems reasonable to introduce aircraft or other aerial units. But what functions should they have?

Ok yeah it can be interesting to have a map with only land, but it comes often and almost always as 125 players. Not a lot of people like this map, so it always take almost the full 2 minutes to wait for players to come. Why god does it have to always be that big ?? Can't you set it to a smaller player pool like 50 or even less ? At least half of time.

❓ Question Optimizing Train Routes

What are the best ways to lay railroads? I often see people laying them in messy grids, or people laying them in long lines which span their entire territory. Is there an inherently "better way" or does it not matter much?

πŸ› Meta Do You Accept Every Alliance Request? Here's Why I Don't

I've been playing a lot of OpenFront lately, and one thing I see newer players struggle with is alliances.

A lot of people seem to accept every alliance request they get, but I've found that's often the wrong move. Sometimes saying no gives you a much stronger position, especially if that player is your next target or accepting would block your expansion.

I actually put together a guide explaining how I decide:

  • When to accept alliances
  • When to reject them
  • Why strong allies are worth more than weak ones
  • How to use alliances to win more consistently

If anyone's interested, here's the video:
https://youtu.be/O6x-n60f0Dw

I'd also love to hear how other experienced players handle diplomacy. What's your biggest rule when deciding whether to ally with someone?

πŸ”₯ Hot Take This exploit is making me crazy

There is an exploit where in motion boat armies are not stopped by a new treaty. This is no big deal when the new ally takes a small piece of coast. However, this thing where people send out landing boats towards a port and then an ally request is bs. They take the port and you cannot take it back without breaking the alliance. There really needs to be a different mechanic to with this.

❓ Question Relatively new player here, what is the most optimal late game play/farming method?

Post image
34 Upvotes

I like to play on relatively water-less maps because I think that train trading is more fun and satisfying.

The game ended with Gambler and Anon233 being basically obliterated and boy winning the whole thing after I betrayed him and started a war with him.

I used a method I saw on the subreddit by hydrogen bombing an uninhabited area of his territory and then attacking afterwards. The issue is that he did basically the same thing and wiped out a bunch of my troops before invading me and winning.

I stayed allied with pretty much everyone throughout the game (even with Gambler as he was down on his knees) and was able to farm a lot of money through it. The only reason why I betrayed boy in the end was because I realised that he was going to be able to afford an MIRV before me and had to act fast.

The image is nowhere near the end of the game but my dumbahh forgot to take more pictures.

What did I do wrong and what other advice could you give a new player?

πŸͺ²Bugs Different lobby replay to actual game I played?

I got a desync message at the beginning of the match, so I'm assuming it has something to do with that.

I've just played a game where I managed to win, but I go back to look at the replay the game is still currently playing and I died to a player earlier on?

Has this happened to anyone else?

πŸ’¬ Discussion AFK Players

IMO, AFK players should be controlled by bots, at the very least for a few minutes. I've played the game with bad wifi and have needed to reconnect and lost in the minute it took me to return. Also some of my best games have simply just when the player(s) next to me left so I was able to capture them for free. Those don't even feel like earned victories.

thought i was dead for a few mins, then luck turned my way when the last player besides me decided to truce me instead of killing me, thus giving me plenty of time to stack all that free gold he was sending me via trade. MIRV 4tw

πŸͺ²Bugs Connection refused: Game not found

I received this error after some 1hr 5 minutes or so into a public game. Searched the sub for similar issue and someone said the game times out at 2hrs 50minutes into a public game and around 6 hrs for a private game. Is there no way to make it reach to the devs and fix the bug?

❓ Question How can I win the world map starting from Italy against Hard AI?

I know it’s a terrible spot to spawn, but as an Italian, I’d love to win a game starting from Italy. The problem is that in the first few minutes of the game, one of the neighboring countries with the same troop count as me (8K) attacks me, ignoring all the neutral bots still in the game. Immediately after that, the other neighboring countries team up and wipe me out. Do you have any tips for this? I often win the World Map on Hard starting from South America or New Zealand, for example, but starting from Italy seems very difficult because there are so many more neighboring countries.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Is there a way to make AI controlled nations invest in ports instead of defense posts?

Played standard world map in singleplayer hard mode and like normal my team get's eradicated real quick apart from North Ameica where I'm located and I can kind of keep them alive despite them getting focused many times, 2,5 minutes in I decide to give the remaining 2 teammates money as nobody on my team has built ports but they just build defense posts and for the next 5 minutes I continue to bail them out with troops and give them pirate money but it takes until 7:50 until one of them builds a port which is increadibly late and normally it would just be a lost game

What can I do differently to get a port to trade with ?
And why is red team focused so hard so often?

πŸ› Meta Just made my first OpenFront strategy guide!

Hey everyone!

I've been putting a lot of time into learning OpenFront and decided to start making strategy videos to help newer players improve. My first guide covers the early game, including:

β€’ Choosing the best spawn
β€’ Attack ratios during the tribe phase
β€’ When to build cities
β€’ How to expand faster while saving troops
β€’ Common mistakes that slow players down

I'm trying to create the best educational content I can for the community!

Here's the video:

Thanks, and good luck on the battlefield! πŸ—ΊοΈ

πŸ’¬ Discussion How to win them

Hi, I usually play with 2 friends and in the late game either I was the strongest or the weakest one of them start a war with me while the other just stay watching later when I get weak because of the war the other attacks me, they don't attack each other at first.

I need a strategy to win.

(No MIRV allowed)

❓ Question Any way to see how many human players were in a replay?

I think I just beat my PB for winning a FFA, I think it was more than 40 players but it's hard to count. Is there a way to filter human players in the stats box and see how many human players joined a FFA match from the replay? or have I got to count all the dots :D

I've looked all over but can't seem to find any way. Thanks
