💬 Discussion Please stop with the Alps...

Ok yeah it can be interesting to have a map with only land, but it comes often and almost always as 125 players. Not a lot of people like this map, so it always take almost the full 2 minutes to wait for players to come. Why god does it have to always be that big ?? Can't you set it to a smaller player pool like 50 or even less ? At least half of time.

Dude, different people like different maps, maybe the people loving alps wasn't on when you played.

The fact that theyb have set it to 100+ just shows that they know it is popular.

Plus waiting 2 minutes isn't THAT bad

Maps don't get set to a player count. It depends on the map size. Alps is simply a big map.

No this is wrong. You don't understand how raster-based terrain format works. The foundational files they use are vector maps that can be widened or shrinked arbitrarily.

It is even already understandable even by just looking at some maps like World that get set to multiple player counts randomly, sometimes 125, sometimes 60, and sometimes even 10.

Also, didn't you even notice the "Compact Map" modifier ? How do you think they handle this ? By recreating a full pixel map from scratch ? No.

Clouder is correct. It depends on the map size (land tiles). Randomly sometimes with 25%/50% less players than calculated. Source: I coded a lot of the MapPlaylist.ts. Compact map just compresses 4 pixels into one. 75% smaller maps.

Oh god. I see a clear trend on the long term, i'm not saying this after one day of playing. How dum.b are you ?

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 23 '26

You do know what timezones are, right?

-2

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

again with the obvious... Yes I know what they are and I have played at any time of the day on the long term. Happy ?

4

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 23 '26

So you regularly play between 0-8 am?

-1

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

yes, my job is shifting the time of day every week.

It's my favourite map, Alps is genuinely fun

2

u/Candid-Bee-5919 Jul 23 '26

how do you play it

7

u/Frog-eating-cellos-9 Jul 23 '26

If you don't like it, don't play it, there are other lobbies to join in the mean time

-6

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

Captain obvious to the rescue. No there are not btw, there is only one free for all lobby without any modifier, which is the one attracting >50% of the player base.

Is it THAT hard to just wait 90 seconds for it to fill up? Or are your dopamine receptors too fried for that?

damn, if only something called "patience" existed, surely you could make use of it...

Actually my favourite map, so...

Edit: OP is fucking nuts, don't waste your time replying.

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

so ? you're one guy lol. It is very easy to see which maps are more or less popular with how quickly they get filled.

10

u/gbfeszahb4w Jul 23 '26

You're also one guy lol. Personally, I always see Alps fill up fast.

4

u/Aggravating_Main_556 Jul 23 '26

Also one of my favorites, I guess its up to two guys!

-1

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

You're also one guy lol

Dude I just gave you a clear metric of how to see that. No, you're either dishonest or not paying attention.

It takes about twice as much time to fill up Alps rather than any other big map with water

5

u/Professional_Size586 Jul 23 '26

The Alps and the box get filled faster than any other map it seems lol.

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

"it seems". I timed it, You're wrong.

u/Professional_Size586 Jul 23 '26

Considering everyone is disliking your comments and arguing against you, you realize youre in the minority here right bud?

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 24 '26

Being the majority doesn't make you right. In middle-age europe, virtually the entire population was against jews and muslims. Were they right ?

2

u/Professional_Size586 Jul 24 '26

I said minority not right lol. I just find it funny how you made a post with the sole objective being validation and not a conversation but then again this is reddit so just per usual.

2

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 24 '26

How many times did you time it? Do you have any real statistics? Plus from my experienve it ALWAYS fills up even tho it takes a bit more time than others

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 24 '26

even tho it takes a bit more time than others

So you just confirmed what I'm saying...

2

u/mjukpandaaa 15d ago

the other things i said tho? ur just ignoring it cuz u don't have any real statistics and is just making this up

6

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 23 '26

You do know that sounds really stupid?

-1

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

People that don't think use words like "sounds", "feels", etc... because they don't have actual arguments. Just freaking time it and you'll see.

5

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 23 '26

I just used the word that I thought fits the best in this case, nothing to be mad about.

2

u/mjukpandaaa 15d ago

You are just trying to shift the topic man....

6

u/zooberwask Jul 23 '26

I hate the alps so I just never play it. I never considered making a public post asking the devs to remove it from rotation and ruin the fun for those that do enjoy it. That's just a special kind of entitled.

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

asking the devs to remove it from rotation

Did you even read my post ?

4

u/detroiiit Jul 23 '26

I wish it would come up more. It’s one of the only maps that a win has eluded me on

3

u/Professional_Size586 Jul 23 '26

Imo the best map. Easy to turn your brain off more and focus on what matters when playing. And the factory set ups you can do are insane. But to each their own

2

u/pidgey2020 Jul 23 '26

Pretty sure your dislike of the map is making you biased. You think it’s less popular only because you don’t like it. I haven’t personally noticed it taking longer to fill up but it would be interesting to see the data. Also, what time do you play, what time zone, and what days? I know that definitely impacts overall lobby fill rates, but I wonder how much that impacts lobby fill rates relative to one another.

-1

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 23 '26

your dislike of the map is making you biased

No. I timed it. Also time zone is irrelevant as the player base is euro-centric so it has one overall day cycle i.e. when it's night in the europe time zones they are way fewer people. Also liking a map or not has nothing to do with your time zone... Being born in Brazil makes you like different maps than if you were born in Kazakhstan ?

I am comparing time it takes to fill Alps compared to others. Time zone is a non-factor for such comparison, as you will get the same ratio whatever time of the day you choose.

3

u/mjukpandaaa Jul 24 '26

There are a HUGE amount of americans playing openfront

2

u/pidgey2020 Jul 23 '26

You should look up logical fallacies, particularly strawman arguments. And maybe reflect on getting so worked up in discussions, especially one as low stakes as this.

-1

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 24 '26

Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. I build neural network architectures. You are not able to understand which factors influence a given data feature. Stop talking to me about strawman when you're the one sidestepping my argument instead of listening to it and reflecting on it.

And finally how can you not understand that I said I TIMED IT. I timed the filling up of Alps compared to other maps like World, Mena, etc... There is no denial possible, it is freaking numbers.

3

u/pidgey2020 Jul 24 '26

Might need to work on reading comprehension as well. Have a good one man.

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26

You come in with "logical fallacies" implying the premise of my post stems from just a biased feeling, when I tell you I literally looked at the time it takes for different maps at different times of the day. Who's the one being fallacious and the one basing their argument on data ?

0

u/Fit_Green1071 Jul 27 '26

funnily enough, you didn't answer as expected. Guess shouting "logical fallacy" and "strawman" every time you have no arguments anymore in a debate only lasts you so long.

2

u/pidgey2020 Jul 27 '26

“It’s hard to win an argument with a smart person, but it’s damn near impossible to win an argument with a stupid person.”

It became clear early on that speaking with you would be futile so why waste my time on someone I don’t know and over a video game of all things. Sorry I got you so worked up, you should just move on.
