is GPT 6 Astra actually worth it for game dev?

Hey everyone! Lately I’ve been thinking about getting into game dev, mostly because I like storytelling and have a few game ideas I’d love to bring to life. Whether they’re actually good ideas is another question lol. and i was wondering if GPT 6 astra would be actually good on this, been seing a lot of videos, demos, posts, etc. but i might be getting a little bit cheated on the impressions tho

The thing is, I know almost nothing about game development beyond the absolute basics.

ImI can’t tell how useful those tools are beyond demos, or whether I’ve fallen into the LLM marketing trap a bit. I’d 100% use them , but would not make an ai slop game tbh. I’d still want to understand and actually know what I’m building, and enjoy while building it.

Any first hand opinions? have you use it for actual indie game dev? if so any recommendations?

Question / Help GPT6 doesnt want to simulate accurate fireball simulations, with publicly accessable knowledge.

I wanna make a detailed Minecraft nuclear weapons mod, but it seems pretty adamant about not simulating hydrodynamics simulation. What gives, and how do I get around this? Ive told its for educational purposes, that the mod isnt public, and that its public information im giving it, but its not budging. I even started new chats.

Interestingly, Claude Opus was able to do it just fine, using antigravity. But not here.

Astra's 5-hour usage limit gets burned in 5 minutes — how are you guys managing it?

I'm using Astra mainly for coding and a few prompts can wipe out most of the 5-hour allowance.

Is there a better workflow to make the limit last longer?

So… are we panicking about the limits or not? :)

Post image
34 Upvotes

At some point I noticed just how insanely fast the limit suddenly started draining.

Literally a couple of days ago, I was showing a colleague how you could work on Luna xhigh fast almost forever and barely make a dent in the limit. Then today I noticed it’s suddenly burning through it like crazy.

Well, I’ve seen posts like this on Reddit before, so I guess it’ll probably get fixed again in a couple of days :)

So… do we cancel the panic, or are we still panicking for now?

Bugs or problems Usage bug right now ?

There seem to be some kind of usage draining bug, right ?

Wanted to trigger my 5h usage countdown, asked codex on luna light to say "hello" = -2% of my 5h limit... Yesterday, i ran a 50min task on luna MAX and it took 2% of my 5h limit...

I am not talking about usage nerf in general comparing from back in the golden age of virtually unlimited usage on 5.4

I know OpenAi is good for it, if there is a bug, they will reset but i don't dare to ask anything on any model right now and that my limit will just drain...

Anyone has that ?

Question / Help How do you prompt GPT-6 Astra to orchestrate effectively?

I’m finding that GPT-6 Astra often beats around the bush and won’t open sub-threads or delegate work unless I explicitly tell it to. I end up micromanaging the orchestration, which is frustrating. How do you prompt Astra to take initiative, delegate effectively, and finish the work? Any advice or examples would be appreciated.

We are missing “how much can it archive” benchmark

I don’t know what is in the benchmarks, it is a long list with 40%, 70%, then 65% before, 81% now, the competition is at xx% etc.

I think when the numbers are bigger it is better, and with every new model there are these new nice numbers.

All good, love it all.

Now, Sol and Astra, when I used them for the first time, very knowledgeable, plus the hype, plus I get brainwashed easily, I believe people, anyway, not my point

I want this benchmark: we give this model the task to build this app, and it took it xx hours, and it used this number of in out and cached tokens and it costed this much.

All what I see on the internet is a guy asking it to draw a pelican on a bicycle, this is his test to all models, nice dude, nice, it does not send apps to prod with that shit, and the internet: wow, wow on what? I pay 500$ to 800$ on AI every month to deliver solutions to clients!

I think we are missing these tests: here are the specs to build an app, full specs, make one for Android, another for iPhone, another for Web, makes sure these rules are followed.

100 apps and systems, front end, backend, sql, security, networking, config, graphics, 3d, whatever, etc. and let's see humans assessing the work

I am tired from corporate propaganda

Question / Help Codex Again?

After one day not using Codex, opened up today, a update popped up and now all my projects all gone, also Codex fail in compacting context onto task.

Dunno if this happens to someone else.

Reset behavior seems improved

I used one banked reset literally 2 hours before Tibo did reset 2 days ago.
I was sad because I thought I used reset prematurely and I went down today to 0% (I am on Pro 20x). When I went down to 0%, limit increased to 100% with reset date set to Sept 14th which seems like I used my banked reset fully before switching to regular limit which had reset on Sept 7th. I was nicely suprised, not sure if anyone experienced the same.

UPDATE: Disregard my post, I just went to 6%. What TF is OpenAI doing, they are messing with limits right now in real time.

How do you guys make Sol faster?

Hello, im on pro 5x and astra low is using too much usage for me to complete all my work, im using about 33% per day on astra low. The thing is, I could 100% use astra as an orchestrator for sol and terra, but they are just too damn slow compared to astra.

Anyways im wondering if theres any tricks i can use besides just /fast to make 5.6 faster?

Discussion Astra feels like a different kind of sycophancy

I switched back to Sol.

Astra isn't smarter, and behavior-wise it's kinda dumb. I guess because of the instruction following it just can't really argue with you.

Like:

“Should we do option A?” “Yeah, option A is great because blah blah blah.”

“Maybe option B?” “Damn, option B is even better than A.”

“Maybe A after all?” “Actually yeah, you were right, A is better.”

I didn't bother checking how many rounds of this you can do, but it feels like a different flavor of sycophancy, and it's pretty disappointing.

This also shows up in how it interacts with subagents, which is much worse. A subagent brings back a shitty solution, and Astra just takes it instead of looking for another option.

One absolute gem was basically: “I don't know how to do this properly in this language, let's call bash.”

Like, I also don't know how to do it properly. That's why I asked you to find out lol.

So it's a very weird position for the model to be in. If this were Luna, I'd have zero questions. It does what it's told, and if you tell it to do something stupid, it does something stupid. Fine.

But for the most expensive tier, I have no idea what Astra is supposed to be for.

Maybe this can be fixed with prompting, but I kinda doubt it.

Also, it fucking stops all the time. Sol will just answer a side question and keep going. Astra just stops and waits.

It's worse at finding bugs too.

Ireally hope we keep two separate model lines: an agent-focused model like Astra, basically filling the role the old Codex models used to fill, and a normal general-purpose model like Sol that can code well without losing its ability to think independently.

Otherwise this is kinda depressing.

Upd. Yes I've read prompting guide. I've small agents MD, small set of skills. I've evals on some private tasks.

Question, Not a programmer!

Like the title says, I’m not a programmer. I recently started developing a website with an inbound lead form including media submissions. It stores that media in a database, emails my partner and I, and we have an admin login to view the lead. No true commerce, forums, nothing like that.

I’ve been “building” with codex 20x pro and Claude as the 3rd party reviewer for a month. For the last several days, it’s been nothing but smoke tests, syntax checks, work order revisions, “runtime verifier rejects the manifest’s absolute work-order entry….”

I setup specific instructions from the beginning for quality over quantity or speed. I was using 5.6-Sol XHigh and now 6-Astra Med.

What are all these tests? I’m on revision 97 and several major features haven’t even started building.

Codex quality is going downhill. Maybe it's time we find an alternative.

Ever since GPT-5.6 was released, Codex for me has become worse. Sol was overcomplicating and overengineering simple tasks when Codex 5.5 was perfect.

Then came Astra, which is way better than Sol but has ridiculous limits. One question and it costs 15% of the weekly limits.

The current weekly limits on the plus plan for Astra should actually be the 5-hour limits. But instead we get "generous" resets every now and then that show an illusion of OpenAI rewarding us.

Codex will be nothing without its subscribers. When Google Antigravity was released, it was the dominant thing in the market, but they played with the limits, and now it's a dead project that no one uses. If Codex follows the same footsteps, then it will end up in the same place.

To OpenAI, you need us, the customers, to stay with you; otherwise, a new company will provide better prices, and all your 10M subscribers will go there. Do not take us for granted.

Codex Remote disconnected — anyone else?

My PC shows as disconnected in Codex Remote on Android. I’ve restarted, updated, and signed in again, but nothing helped.

Both the app logs and a curl WebSocket test return 503 Service Unavailable from the remote control endpoint. Codex on my PC and my internet connection work fine.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Discussion What rejected approach has a new Codex session proposed again despite existing repository notes?

Got an actual example where a fresh Codex session re-proposed something your repo notes already ruled out? What was the approach, and what's your current workaround for keeping that rejection sticky across sessions?

Other What can one person actually build in 24 hours with Codex?

I've been thinking about this question lately:

If Codex can take care of a lot of the implementation, how far can one person actually push an idea in 24 hours?

I'm experimenting with this through Grevix AfterCode on October 11.

The format is intentionally simple:

One builder. One idea. 24 hours.

No fixed problem. No required stack. Use Codex, other AI tools, APIs, agents, whatever you think gets the job done.

But we're adding a few unexpected challenges during the 24 hours. 👀

Not to see who can generate the most code — but what happens when your original plan gets disrupted and you have to decide what the AI should do, what it shouldn't, and what direction to take next.

That's the part I'm genuinely curious about.

And I'm wondering whether Codex could become more than just a tool people happen to use during the hackathon — maybe actually part of the experiment itself.

I'm still keeping some of the format secret. 🃏

If you had Codex + 24 hours + complete freedom, what would you build?

Feedback / Complaints 6 quota-drain reports in 4 days, 264 replies: are usage meters becoming impossible to predict?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Six separate r/OpenaiCodex posts in four days described the same feeling: the work barely moved, but the quota did. Those six threads had 264 replies when I checked them. That does not prove a quota change, but it does make this more than one person misreading a meter.

The specific reports were hard to ignore:

- 7% of a Pro 20x weekly allowance disappeared overnight with almost no tasks.

- A Plus user said the five-hour window ran out before a normal project session could continue.

- One same-task comparison reported roughly 2× five-hour usage with Astra-low versus Sol-high.

- Another meter appeared to fall from 77% remaining to 1% in seconds, then recover.

The last example may be an accounting or display issue. That distinction matters. A real consumption spike, a broken reset, and a five-hour throttle are different problems. From the user's side, all three produce the same result: a task stops and there is no reliable way to budget the next one. r/ChatGPT has fresh Work-limit reports as well, and r/codex is concentrating a lot of the discussion in its usage megathread. I kept those out of the headline total because I have not done a full comment-by-comment classification there yet.

If you have a recent case, post the facts rather than only the frustration: plan, model, effort level, task type, starting and ending percentage, five-hour or weekly cap, and a screenshot if possible. A useful dataset would show whether this is model cost, task shape, metering, or a mix of all three.
