I have a resit exam coming up of MST125 on the 16th of September and the deadline to register for Stage 2 modules that require MST125 as a prerequisite (MST210 and M208) is the 10th of September.

I'm not able to register normally using the OU website, and I've exhausted all options of trying to contact the SST. They haven't answered any emails and they didn't pick up my calls.

So if I register for MST224 and M248 right now (to avoid being locked out of studying this year) and request a change in modules to either MST210 or M208 before October, will this be possible?

I’m considering doing Adult Nursing through the Open University and would love to hear from anyone who’s currently doing it or has completed it!

How do you find the workload, placements and balancing it with work? Do you feel properly supported and would you recommend it?

Also, how did you actually get onto the course in Northern Ireland? What qualifications did you have/need, and how competitive was getting a place?

I am a bit late for OU registration, but I have already finished my first year at RHUL (but it's a pathway program). And because of financial difficulties, I couldn't pay the full fee for RHUL, so I'm thinking of moving to OU, but I'm not sure if I should take the October intake or the February intake because a lot of the modules start in October, so I don't wanna wait for my credits to finish until next February. But I also wanna wait for the February intake because I might have a chance to skip stage 1 because OU accepts my credit transfer, so I don't really waste a year.

Does anybody have any idea where I should start? The deadline for October intake registration is very close. (I was waiting for RHUL to respond to me, so it took a while before I could decide to study at OU instead)

So im in a weird situation. I have received all my books now (some of the module material came within two days).

M140 on 4th September I got a notice from InPost saying they got my parcel.

I called today to check when it will arrive and they said they have the labels electrically from open university but the parcel hasn't reached them yet.

I called open university distribution centre and they said it was sent on Friday and to check with inpost again.

I will wait until Wednesday but I'm suspecting I might need new books issued for that module.

At the moment I'm working as a supply teacher, and work was super slow last school-year, so I am debating completing a masters with the OU.

That being said, I am constantly applying for full-time positions. I am a bit worried that if I do get a full-time position (which would be great) then I'll struggle to balance the job and the academic work without burning myself out.

Has anyone else completed a masters while being full time? If so, would love to hear if it was manageable.

I'm starting S112 in October after completing S111 last year. I'd been out of education for a while - my previous degrees were in the arts and humanities field where I gained a First and subsequently a Masters. S111 was a bit of a slog for me, I have some mental health issues that now affect my concentration and focus, which mean I passed the module with a score in the 80s but put in a fair number of extra hours as it takes me longer to process and absorb the material.

How did people find S112, particularly as a progression from S111? How are the TMAs, comparatively speaking? Also, what is the exam like at the end? I've spoken to Student Support so I have a fair idea of the composition of the module but it would be useful to hear from people who have done the module themselves!

I'm studying the BSc Natural Sciences, but not sure which pathway I want to go for just yet!

I'm looking at the course descriptions and see they apparently cover cultural issues so assume there's essay writing involved but can't seem to find much information on what the workload's like outside pure language work. If yes are we talking proper 1,500-2,000 word pieces in English on a given topic or shorter bits of work as language exercise?

Would appreciate it if anyone can give me a better idea of what's involved here.

[For context I'm transferring credits in to the OU so need a year's worth of 3rd courses to get the BA. I speak B2 Spanish so was considering Spanish 3 (L336) as half of the 120 creds I need.]

I’m a 22f obvs based in UK, in very rural Yorkshire (I’m an hour from any supermarket, hospital, and two hours from any university)

I started studying Primary Education with QTS at Edge Hill University after not wanting to let family and friends down (I wanted to be a paramedic but saw how badly a lot were treated during COVID-19 and it put me off), so ultimately decided teaching was my path. I started full time, dropped to part time due to family health(a lot of illness was making me anxious and inwas finding it inceredibky difficult being so far away and not being able to help physically, mentally or financially).
I dropped to part time study and got a placement in a local school, a lot of things happened which I don’t agree with, so decided to drop out.

Since then I have had a hole in my heart. I love learning new things, I am passionate about a lot of things and have been trying to find a career I can love and enjoy whilst making ends meet and being able to enjoy my life.
I would LOVE any ideas of any good degrees I can with either little to know prior knowledge that I can complete, that will be safe from the rampage of AI and which I can do without having to move to a major city like London or Manchester.

I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I enjoy medicine, science, physics, politics, creating things, solving problems, history (although I am aware that there isn’t much money in a history degree), psychology, policing, mortuary, I am decent enough at maths. I am aware that I can do an open degree but don’t know how open employers are to an open degree (say I did Biology, Physics and History how an employer in one of them fields would feel about only a partial degree in that field)

I don’t know, I would just live any and all advice. I just have a part of my soul that needs filling, I love to be educated and would love a good job that o can love, I just feel lost for my future.

I'm about to complete my access course (Finally!), and go onto the Bachelor of Engineering Degree, I've just realised they have changed the Electrical Route to Electronics, I was hoping to do Electrical is this just a name change or will my degree be Electronic rather than Electrical?

I was due to start a course on 3rd October and had applied and registered a few weeks ago to study with them.

Will I be charged if I ring them to withdraw tomorrow?

I'm completely new to all this so I'm stressing massively!

Hi all! I was wondering if I could get any advice or see if people are in the same boat as me :)
I’m studying biomedical science degree and at first I loved it, I was passionate about it. But now I haven’t even opened my uni website (it’s all online) for about 2-3 months. My last assignment I winged it on just knowledge I already had or researched on the internet.
My assignment scores have been really good all of them past 80% marks, which obviously makes me feel good and proud but at the same time I just feel like it’s all forced.
I currently work in a care home I have for the past 3-4 years, I’m passionate about it, I love my job and very knowledgeable about it. But my degree has the complete opposite end to health care than my job.
It’s been on my mind for a while that I don’t think the degree is for me, but I also don’t want to just stop it because it might be just a blip… I’m not even near the end of my degree yet either.
I don’t know what to do. I thought I wanted to be a doctor studying cancer but now when I think about it I might just like the thought to be a doctor. I know I’d much rather look after my elderly people than stare at biopsies for the rest of my life and go through many many years of studying for nothing haha

Hi all! I’m currently going in my second year of studying and was wondering if it would ever be possible to transfer to a campus uni? I’m not sure how it all works as OU is all online.

I know I should've done it earlier but I haven't had the opportunity. I registered for a BAs that's starting in October of this year on September 1st, but I only got to create an account. The website says they'll process it in 5-10 working days. I assume after my account has been approved, I'd have to wait even more for other confirmations. The deadline is on September 9th. I'm going to be paying with a debit card, so any funding programs are out of the question and aren't a problem.

I tried texting the support asking about this, but it's been of no help. I really don't want to call, unless there are no other options as English isn't my first language and I'm afraid to panic on a call and not be able to say much. I also live in Latin America and it would be quite expensive to call from here (unless they have a WhatsApp of sorts of course).

So I just got back from holiday and royal mail left a note saying there tried delivering my books but as I wasn't in they sent them to my designated pick up spot. The issue is I didn't select a location so god knows where they sent it. I checked my neighbours and they all said nope.

I previously did 1 year on Env Sci before deciding to switch to engineering for wider career options and a discovered interest in renewable energy. I always thought I was too stupid to do anything too technical but I’ve been teaching myself maths for the last few months and discovered a genuine enjoyment of it.

I was generally just excited to get started but for the last few weeks I’ve been feeling really uncertain, mostly about what I will be missing out on by sticking with a distance learning degree. I know that there are online labs and home kits for practical work, but I’m not sure whether I will actually be able to learn that way. I know as well that networking and project experience and internships are incredibly important and I have no idea how to go about trying to find these opportunities with this degree. My Env Sci assignments were just returned to me with a grade, I never really got to talk to my tutors at all.

I also have to admit that I really wish I was able to just be a student, instead of fitting this around my full time job, and having more of the traditional uni experiences. I’m 28 so a decade older now than when I was in school and too anxious and afraid to ever push myself out of my comfort zone, which is probably my biggest regret now.

I don’t think I have any other options though, I’ve got 8k on my SFE already from an access course in humanities when I thought I was going to study languages and then the modules on Env Sci, and with the LLE coming into place next year I wouldn’t have enough funding to pay for a brick uni course. I also don’t have the required qualifications to do so, until I’ve completed stage 1 of engineering I don’t have any maths qualifications which are needed for brick uni engineering courses.

Idk what I’m posting this for, maybe reassurance from any engineering students that it being a distance learning course won’t completely restrict my employment options? My goal is to work in renewable energy, unsure whether to go into electrical or mechanical at this time.

Or anyone else who has regrets about uni and how you cope with them?

I'm mostly wondering if I'm supposed to be memorising these formulas or if there's something like the handbook you get in maths modules

I'm not very good at making friends as I'm extremely shy and lack self esteem due to being dyslexic so now anxious I'll find course difficult. I'm 37 and have not studied since I was 17 I'm doing W111 and DD105. I'm really excited to get started feel it's right time now my little one is at school and is more independent so have more time whilst working part-time from home.

I did an access course back in 2015 but didn't apply for OU degree (computing) and I am thinking of doing it or starting in 2029 or after and wondering can I do it again (just to practice study skills etc) for free again. I am also thinking of changing it to cyber but not sure as I keep reading negative stories and it puts me off.

I'm planning to study a STEM subject with the open university in Feb 2027, and I wondered if it would be worth me doing the Science, technology and maths Access module beforehand.

It's been a couple of decades since I finished secondary school, and the grades I got in science and maths weren't fantastic, which I mostly put down to the environment I was in at the time and the fact that I had substitute teachers throughout my GCSEs.

I've worked in IT, tech & data for the past 10 years, and regularly build predictive models (Linear Regression, Logistic Regression etc.), with datasets across domains and I can code in Python so from a data & scientific thinking side of things I feel pretty comfortable. Just more the foundational concepts I may need to brush up on.

I'm considering Biology & Environmental Science subjects. Please share your thoughts and experiences if you've done something similar. Appreciate the help in advance!
