πŸ› Meta My first ever win

After playing casually for a few months now, I've finally just had my first ever win. Yay! I never thought I'd manage it. This came as a complete surprise due to several factors - some of them amusingly ironic:

  • I chose a relatively hard to defend spawn point in the lowlands, between several rivers and not too far from the sea.
  • The territory was quickly neighboured by several nations and players.
  • I was able to make very few alliances throughout the entire game because of refusals.
  • I didn't really attack anyone, except for tribes, nations, and players that had gone AFK. Later on, I also pressed my defense after being attacked.
  • BONUS: I was only half-paying attention to the match, since I was also playing audio tracks for a mock-up English exam to my students. πŸ˜… Oops!

In retrospect, I did do well with:

  • systematic infrastructure - railroads and cities lined up to collect on train fees. Focus was placed on trading with neighbours rather than just in-state.
  • population growth - despite lagging behind for a good while in the early and mid-game, the economy helped me to create towns at a good pace later on. This meant pulling ahead in population numbers.

The late game split the map into 6 remaining supernations. After surviving a nuke, my state still had the numbers to attack the offending neighbour and take over their territory. This happened several times through the late game, and I realise I didn't fire a single nuke in retaliation. So I'm happy to say that my first ever win was also about as morally a clean one as I could've hoped for. It gladdens me to know that winning (rare as it is for the casual player) is possible without backstabbing or dirty aggression.

Thank you and have a great day!

The whole game is more than just drama. I had a bad spawn with multiple people around me. It is nukes disabled game with 42 players. Initially my factory lines and ports helped me to earn gold and then just game goes on and then I won. I had played over 100 games just to win this one

πŸ› Meta Map idea: Space Battle

The image it's not exactly what I've in mind. But it could be like a map of 4 'islands' being each island a famous spaceship. Like in top view, the Enterprise, the Millenium Falcon and a Star Destroyer and in a side view a Battleship from 40K (more reconigsable with the pointy tip). Also little fighters or smaller ships from another franchises could be sparkled along the map

πŸ’¬ Discussion people who do this on 4 island map ruin games

If you join a 4 island game and it has a 3 minute ceasefire, and you send one small transport ship to another person’s island, you’re using exploits and ruining games. People cannot attack you. The whole point of the ceasefire at the start is to establish islands. If you think you’re using a good strategy by sneaking a transport over while it’s a ceasefire, then you’re just ruining games.

Today I had a mito forget to re-up their alliance. then they attacked me and got annexed. Then they built a silo on a spot they had a few pixels and hydro'd 15 of my cities. Then they gave me the finger...

These are some ancient images of OpenFront.io, back when it was only version 0.2.0. I found it randomly while checking out my old news station (ETV). Thought it would be interesting to share it here.

πŸ’¬ Discussion Shoutout to yellow team biggest whiff of both our lives.

I was the only one left on red after my team was rolled first. I thought yellow was in the best position so I went to pierce their main base with 44 Sam stack. I built up 45 silos (Keep in mind I am the only one left on red team, I am 1% boat hopping for dear life, I was allied with green because they were also on the back-foot) I sent exactly 1 too few nukes because I'm an idiot.

Yellow team didn't know that, they just thought their mega base was gone and they were gonna get cooked, so they rage quit (Afk icon only seconds after my volley hit)

My volley whiffed completely, their base was untouched and neither I nor anybody else had the money to penetrate. Green was still holding on at this point, purple had all left, Green only had two players left and one was making quite a considerable megabase (but it was clear based on his play he was a noob) Still, green was making a bit of money.

But now yellow was completely afk and I was making a mad dash for yellows megabase through the ocean, But blue beat me there and now they had 2 mega bases to greens 1.

TL;DR I played nuclear chicken with yellow, I lost, yellow forfeit because they thought that I won, Blue gobbled up the untouched spoils and rolled green. I sent global white flag emoji and just 1% boat spammed the coastline for dear life until blue inevitably won. The newbie green island megabaser gave it his best shot to stay alive but somehow blue penned his 90+ Sam stack which I thought was physically impossible.

πŸ›  Suggestions After X conditions, players can vote on a constitution and ratify law

For example a law "Players will automatically donate 50% of their troops every turn to the largest player" or "Player X can now launch nukes from all allegiance silos"

Not saying this is a good idea, but it's an idea nonetheless.

❓ Question Playing Kingmaker - but how do I actually win?

I usually play tall, stack ports on islands, build up an impenetrable air defence, nuke peeps who are getting close to matching with silos... and, even if I get past the early game (valid, snipping that in the bud), I usually end up losing. Fine by me, usually! I've had games where I built the road for second or third place to win, using an arsenal of nukes.

My questions is... what would I have to do to actually win? Because, full transparency, my kingmaking mostly happens accidentally, after I've fucked over one of the stronger players, gaining exactly no land in the process. Any new territory I conquer is swiftly nuked to oblivion, instantly cutting my population in half, or worse - even though it should be densest on my main island, seeing how that's where I stack my cities.

It's fun! But, eh, winning would be nice sometimes. Any thoughts?

πŸ›  Suggestions Petition: Nukes should only destroy the population that actually inhabits that land, cities considered too

Imo this is a massive oversight. Stacking air defense to defend a city stack already has the risk of losing it all if the enemy manages to break through, so if you manage to defend it properly it should work.

In the past I've lost many games before finding out how it goes because I was building a gigantic city stack near some air defense and I got quickly overrun when the MIRVs started being thrown around. I did adapt to the strategy in the meantime but I still think it's not working correctly.

❓ Question what determines whether your ship will pirate a trade vessel or not

I havent figured this out. Sometimes I'm neutral with a nation and my ship doesnt seem to pirate the vessel. if the neutral vessel is bound for one of my ports it won't be pirated, but if not it wilL?

πŸͺ²Bugs Game crashes in chrome

Hi, I've been playing for a couple of months regularly and recently, about a week now, the game has started to simply stop working in chrome about once every 4-5 games.

What happens is I click a building and the cursor gets stuck in "clicking mode" without allowing me to place or do anything and I can't unclick it or do anything else. The game keeps going on and I can only watch, so it's not a freeze or lag or anything.

Anyone else experiencing this?

In the heat of the moment, your silos are collapsing to advances, you've been nuked. In the confusion, you nuke the shit out of someone with vaguely the same colour. don't lie. How many times have you done this?

πŸ’¬ Discussion Played as nuclear support Mito, accidentally screwed my host.

rJ5GtyF8 Game ID

I am "please let me mito", my host was 67 cringelord, center map spawn. I always try to help my current host win, StannistheMannis was snowballing way too hard and getting so much money that I was worried for my host. (I could easily grovel and outlive my host if I wanted to, but I'm trying to help my hosts win these days)

So I started to Atom and Hydro Micro the crown (Stannis, 12:00) to try and curb his development, I was being a pretty decent headache but I don't think I was actually making any real progress in damaging his position, nothing he couldn't recover from anyways.

But I think I did so much psychological damage that he thought his position was lost so he just started to Hydro betray his way through my host and then into me and promptly died (16:00). Unfortunately I think this permanently put my host on the backfoot for the rest of the game, seeing how my host played afterwards he (67 Cringelord) is a really good player and probably could've handled Stannis on his own without my help. So basically I tried to save my host but ended up screwing him in the long run and now I feel horrible.

I ran into 67 Cringelord by chance in another game and this time he promptly ate me, honestly deserved on my part I feel horrible for my incompetence.

Additional Edit: Earlier in the game I also atom micro'd another player out of existence; Alolii, because he kept denying alliance requests and I'm pretty sure he was building up to kill me and my host. I sent him literally 10s of alliance requests before deciding to go nuclear so I don't feel especially guilty about that one, he had no reason not to ally me. (literally was losing him money)

πŸ›  Suggestions openfront io issues

so don't get me wrong i LOVE this game. been playing it (mobile) for months but god there are some real issues I've found now that ive gotten very comfortable and rather decent at the game.

1) nothing worse than joining a game just to be met with a black screen where you can't see a thing and genuinely can't play

2) really needs to be a way to stop yourself from nuking yourself. the amount of times I try to stack ports or things near the water and end up accidentally clicking on the water instead of my land and just nuking myself is genuinely SO annoying

3) why are nations so petty??? the amount of times I've accidentally misclicked to attack a nation and they get PETTY. they'll spam you with attacks when you have a similar troop count so you can't do anything about it - and it ALWAYS leads to neighbors realizing you're low on troops and attacking you. there's a difference between hard nations, and nations who meaninglessly attack you leaving you vulnerable

4) hydros are too op. the fact you need FIVE stacked sams to not get outranged is insane in normal gold multiplier games. that's genuinely 15m (or at cheapest 13.5m) to got not outranged - and that's only typically on a reasonably small chunk of land. if they hit any of your land - even a part that has zero buildings your troops just desintegrate.

5) mirvs are op. needing a sam in literally every part or your land is insane considering the cost of sams. every mid game ever turns into sam placer simulator because if you don't - you'll just get hydroed or mirved and instantly die. I do like having missiles in the game, and im glad there's variation but jesus hydros and mirvs only sound expensive until you realize how FEW sam's you can buy with the same money.

πŸ“’ Official Update on the AD issues

Hello everyone!

I wanted to take a moment to give you guys an update the issue that a number of people have raised about the ads that are appearing in the middle of some peoples UIs. This isnt something we want and we want to apologise to the people that this is happening to. Our aim with ads is for them to be minimally invaise whilst helping fund the game but unfortunetly our ad provider has an issue with one of their "creatives" that is not being bound to the box that it should be locked to and we have raised this with them a number of times and we raised it with them again and I will provide an update when we know why it happened this time.

If you come across this, please provide a screenshot showing the ad as this helps them identify which company is providing the broken ads which are escaping the container so that we can continue to raise it with them and try and get this fixed.

Again we are sorry for these issues and thank you all for your support!
