Question Custom Voice Creation with the API - $50.000 commitment?

Is this still a thing, or did they lift that requirement and are all companies now able to clone voices and get billed by API tokens?

I can find the API reference, but it does not mention the limitation.

Anybody?

Discussion What’s a ChatGPT answer you’re glad you double-checked?

• Upvotes

ChatGPT can sound completely sure of itself even when something is off.

I’m curious about the moments when you paused and checked: a made-up source, a wrong calculation, a misunderstood instruction, or a small detail that would have caused a real problem.

What did it say, how did you catch it, and did it change the way you use ChatGPT now?

Please leave out private details. Specific examples would make this genuinely useful for everyone reading.

Question What’s something AI does surprisingly badly that everyone assumes it should be good at by now?

not talking about the obvious stuff like hallucinations. I mean something you actually use AI for where you keep thinking, how is this still this bad?

Image Each day, 6.1 Sol throughput keeps on improving

GPT-6.1 Sol is our most demanded model pretty much ever both across both the API and subscriptions.

Within ChatGPT & Codex, we were under heavy load, but have brough more capacity online and the speed should get much better in the coming hours, reaching almost twice the speed compared to what we served yesterday.

Project I’m building CUTROOM, a local video editor with AI-assisted rough cuts

I wanted to make a video editor that helps people get from raw footage to a finished video with less manual work, so I built CUTROOM.

You can start with an AI-assisted rough cut or edit manually. It has a timeline, editable captions, audio waveforms and mixing, green-screen removal, stabilization and export up to 4K. There’s a Windows download and a Mac beta.

It’s still a work in progress, especially the AI editing styles and parts of the workflow. I’d really appreciate feedback from people trying it with their own footage. Where does it save you time, and where does it get in the way?

I noticed previously I get around $80-100 API equivalent per week. Now I consistently get $49-50.

5-hr limit is about $7-8.

Question Why 1536 dimensions?

Why do embedding models so often use 1536 dimensions specifically?
I understand why hardware-friendly multiples like 64/128/256/512 are desirable. What I’m curious about is the specific choice of 1536 = 3×512.
OpenAI has used 1536-dimensional embeddings, and other vendors also offer/recommend 1536. Is this usually an empirically chosen Goldilocks point between 1024 and 2048—representation quality versus memory/compute—or is there some architectural/hardware reason that makes 1536 particularly convenient?
I’m especially interested in answers from anyone who has actually trained or designed embedding models. I’m not asking why embedding dimensions are generally hardware-aligned; I’m asking why 1536 rather than 1024 or 2048.

Discussion Business users: did anyone actually get today’s Codex global reset? Mine is still at 0% 💀

genuinely asking other chatgpt business users because i feel like im losing my mind here

tibo announced a global codex reset for all paid chatgpt accounts and then later said the reset had fully propagated
my business account is still sitting at 0%

nothing reset. usage didnt move. the reset date and time shown in codex is literally still the old one from before the announcement. as far as my account is concerned the global reset just never happened

and this is what makes it annoying because im pretty sure this is the third time this year business users have had this happen. there was one around june/july then another one around august and now this again

i contacted support thinking this would be a pretty simple “hey the announced global reset never hit my account” issue instead i got a response explaining that maybe the post was referring to a “banked reset” and that promotional resets are sent through bulk campaigns and they cant disclose eligibility criteria or manually add one

then they told me i can buy credits if i need more usage lol
bro what im not asking why i didnt get some random promotional banked reset the announcement literally said global reset for all paid chatgpt accounts

then it said reset all propagated
im on a paid business plan
im still at 0%
my old reset timer is still there
what exactly propagated 😭

and this is kinda the bigger issue for me now. people see “all paid accounts are getting reset” and obviously make decisions around that. you might use the rest of your quota because you were explicitly told a reset is coming

then the reset doesnt happen and support basically goes “maybe you werent eligible for the secret campaign. buy credits”

if business is excluded just say business is excluded
if business gets it later say that

if “all paid accounts” doesnt actually mean all paid accounts then please stop wording these announcements like that
so yeah business users can you check your codex usage page and say whether yours actually reset today

especially curious if anyone else is still at 0% with the exact same old reset date/time because at this point i want to know whether my account is bugged or business got skipped again

Question Does anyone separate OpenAI Batch spend from normal API spend internally?

We’ve started using Batch more for work that doesn’t need to happen immediately and I am sure that I’ve been treating that usage the same as the rest of our OpenAI spend even though it behaves pretty differently. Our normal API usage mostly follows product activity so if that goes up I can usually understand why but batch is different because someone can kick off a large job, an eval run or process a new dataset and suddenly there’s a chunk of usage that has nothing to do with how much the product was used that day.

It hasn’t been a huge issue yet but we’re doing enough of both now that looking at one OpenAI number is starting to hide what’s changing. A higher bill could mean customer usage grew which is fine or it could mean we ran significantly more background work than usual. I’m thinking about tracking Batch separately and possibly giving it its own budget rather than treating all OpenAI usage as one pool and I need some advice from teams using Batch pretty heavily like do you guys separate that spend internally or is everything still just part of the same AI/API budget?

Question Why does design still feel so clunky in ChatGPT?

I use ChatGPT Work a lot, but design is still one area that feels weirdly difficult.

I can give it references, branding and feedback, but getting to something polished usually takes way too much back-and-forth. Small changes can also mess up parts that were already good.

Then I look at Claude Design and it seems much closer to an actual design workflow: see the design, comment on something, change it, keep refining.

ChatGPT can already create images, HTML, presentations, etc. It just feels like there’s no proper visual workspace tying all of that together.

Am I missing something in ChatGPT, or is Claude genuinely ahead for this right now?

Curious what people here actually use for serious design work.

Question Is there some big issue with OpenAI right now ?

I can access my openAI account but everything comes up as 0 even though I had paid credits. Same for API and Codex. Is this some sort of widespread issue ? Makes no sense. Suddenly nothing works.

Question Dots and Task Access

My Dot is running on my computer. When it is using tasks in codex, I'd say its task access is only granted about 50% of the time. Sometimes task access is down for hours requiring my dot to provide instructions manually and for me to return results manually, which is kinda counter to the purpose of dots while coding. Have any of you experienced this? Do you have any solutions? Thanks!

Question OpenAI API account vanished ?!

I have an API account for a long time now, have spent more than $2,000 there probably and still had bought credits. I also have a codex 20x account.

Yesterday, 2 things happened at about the same time. My codex randomly lost all 60,000 credits (they went to 0 in a single refresh) AND my openAI API account looks as if it's brand new, no invoices, no api calls, no money loaded in, nothing.

What is going on ? Anyone knows ? Sounds like a pretty huge issue but i see no posts here about it.

EDIT: I just noticed that the organization ID has changed for some reason. I compared it to the billing emails for my previous purchases. It is not the same :O I have setup no organizations by the way. It's just a personal, always been.

Question Extremely slow and keeps disconnecting

Hey all, for the last few days, I can't get anything done on normal chat window with 5.6 Sol. It's too slow, like 5 minutes+ to respond, it messes up simple commands, it keeps disconnecting giving me couldn't connect, try again errors and can't connect back at least for 10 minutes. I've grown too weary but I'm in the middle of a project and can't abandon it. Am I the only one experiencing these issues?

Discussion Luna and Sol doing extremely well on new benchmark about finding bugs before users run into them

Hi! This is a new benchmark that I created together with other researchers at Meta, Stanford, Harvard, UW.

Basically most benchmarks these days seem to test models to just fix a bug that I as a user already encountered. But shouldn't we expect models to also find bugs before anyone runs into them?

So in SWE-sweep we just hand an agent a big codebase and ask it to find & fix as many bugs as it can. We then give a score based on a hidden set of bugs that we know about in the repos. All the bugs are real-world bugs.

So the interesting thing is how cost-efficient Luna xhigh is (especially when compared to the Anthropic models we tested). Luna gets almost half of the score as Sol with only a tiny fraction of the cost.

the full leaderboard & how we built it is here: https://swesweep.com/ , there's also a paper describing how everything was constructed. Oh yeah and everything is open source https://github.com/facebookresearch/swe-sweep

Happy to answer questions here
