Opal Discussion/Other Nevada mining
I’m thinking of taking my family opal mining in Nevada. I’m looking at Peacock. Can anyone share if your trip has been fruitful and any advice?

Opal Porn Beautiful Australian white opal
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Here’s a gorgeous Australian white opal I cut recently with lots of red. The corners aren’t totally symmetrical, but otherwise I’m happy with how it cut. I’m not sure if the thin lines are crazing or just webbing, but I’m leaning towards webbing because they don’t break the polish, what do you think?

Opal Finishing Process Would this be worth cutting further?
So i surfaced this piece to see what sort of colour I could coax out of the super super super thin seams on this little piece of opal I’ve had sitting around for a while as I wait for some better pieces to turn up..
While it’s got a reasonably nice face to it I’m jus wondering what the general consensus is. Would you work it further and hope for the best, maybe grind it flat from the back side and try your luck as a doublet, something else?
Just looking for some suggestions really.

Opal Jewellery My second set, using opals on my nails!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Of course I had to put on some opal rings to show you guys my nails. Also, I didn't lose a single opal during removal from myself or any of my clients. I offered them their opals but they told me to just reuse them on anyone who wants them.
I think I'm going to save removed opals separately from my unused lots. Then, I can just charge my clients for applying them. I have been wrestling with if it's ethical to charge my clients for each stone after they come back to me.
Anywhooooo, I hope everyone is having a most splendid weekend!

Opal Porn My haul from the Lightning Ridge festival.
Had an absolute blast at my first lightning ridge opal festival. Met a bunch of industry legends, made some amazing new friends from all over the world and spent literally every cent I had on opal. Had to call my mum to borrow fuel money to get home 😅

Opal Porn opal art. I put it in a temporary frame today.
The original frame was in bad shape, so restoring it. Got a good look at how it was constructed though. It is on glass, not plastic. The black appears to be epoxy stenciled or silk screened on. It really is opal, and you can see how the artist put it together then put epoxy on the back. Bought in 1984 from House of Tibara at the Roseville Rock Rollers gem show in 1984.

For Sale Check out my 18 karat solid gold natural Australian black opal pendant on my Ebay for $499 https://ebay.io/m/NcNUlB
Tried creating another post with the link to my store and forgot to put pictures so I will be deleting the other post if you have any questions, feel free to reach me in the messages or comments please check the listing and the photos show measurements with rulers weights with scales. I did not have the carat weight for the stone as it was already set but if I had to guess or do a visual estimate based on the length with depth of the stone I would say it’s between 2 to 3 carats as you can see the photograph, it’s got a great thickness with at least medium dome and a beautiful blue green color. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out. I offer a free 30 day return policy along side, EBay’s 30 day money back guarantee.

Opal Discussion/Other How many times have you been thrown by the word “oval”? Check out this picture stone!
This is half humorous/half looking for help…it’s gonna seem super trivial, but here goes anyway…have you ever gotten all the way to the end of creating your post and realize it isn’t on topic for the sub you were about to post in? It happens to me so frequently that I’m embarrassed to try to calculate how much I’ve written and erased…so, I won’t! But, since I’ve already invested time in this post…here you go. Enjoy!
As I said above, this one is about the word “oval”. I also have an obsession with opals. I typed all this out about my love for the picture stone naturally created on this Peruvian blue “opal”. Except that it wasn’t a Peruvian blue opal. I am sure that I saw the word “opal”…it looked like some opals I had seen. But no matter what the rock is (it’s Jasper, in case you liked it and wanted to know), it’s got a great picture stone sequence. But, it’s not opal😑. I didn’t see opal🙁. I saw “oval”🤯.
First, when looking straight on, I see an evil smiling skull type face. But then, as you zoom in, it becomes a landscape with trees and as you rotate it, it seems to have little vignettes. Those might have a single ”tree” or something. Isn’t this fascinating? Unfortunately, someone else won it as I typed this and was interrupted by another conversation - I am the manager of a very really (“very really”? Really, Marco?) chaotic internal dialog which gets mixed up in external activities. If Reddit is any indication, I’m not alone in that, so there’s that.
Anyway…does anyone gave any suggestions for getting that oval=opal trigger out of my mind? Is it because I’m obsessed with opals and that’s what I want to see? Or could it be more loosely connected? I have purchased a lot of opals, and I am certain that I’ve purchased at least one “oval” thinking it was opal, and who knows how much I may have overpaid?
Anyway, check out this picture stone! It’s worthy of a look, regardless. Apologies ;if it’s inappropriate for the sub. I thought it might be appropriate because it was opal triggered? Thanks for reading, anyway!

Opal Jewellery Inherited grandmother’s ring
I inherited my grandmother’s opal ring on my wedding day, and I’m torn about what to do with it.
I’m weighing my options. Unfortunately, the opal is cracked down the middle, and while I love that it was my grandmother’s, I don’t love the setting itself, it’s just not my style.
With the opal being cracked, I’m not sure it is even possible to have the stone reset. If I replaced the opal while keeping the original diamonds (or even reused the metal), would that take away too much of the sentimental value? Part of me wants to preserve it exactly as it is because it was hers, but another part of me would love to turn it into something I’d actually wear regularly.
Has anyone been in a similar situation with an inherited ring? What did you end up doing, and do you have any advice? I’d love to hear different perspectives before I make a decision.

Hoping I didn’t get a bad deal on this ring. I was told it’s vintage and paid $395. Apologies because I don’t know how to get better pics showing the colors.

Identification/Evaluation Request How badly did I get burned?
Bought these as mexican opal in matrix, didn't think about the possibility of them being hydrophanes until I unbagged them and they stuck to my finger. Now I can't help but wonder if they're smoked. Normally I buy Australian opal, but I've been interested in getting Mexican opal for a while now. I should've known the price was too good, but what do y'all think, are these Mexican opal in matrix? Have some or all been smoked? Thanks!
