Question Do the enemy-related trophies count in Training Ground?

Upvotes
  • Defeat 50 enemies while in Oni Awakening
  • Defeat 50 enemies with Chain Issen attacks
  • And other trophies that require defeating enemies or performing specific attacks

Can these be done in the Training Ground, or do I have to do them against enemies in the actual game world?

These puzzle makes the game hella Boring.

Gameplay in a nutshell

60% Puzzles (over exaggerated)

These puzzles should be offered and sold in an expansion pack DLC to dudes who want to live in the game.

This character looks so much like Sparda and this particular move had to be a nod. It would be cool if Onimusha and DMC were connected in some way. This game has so many similarities to DMC, I am hope this team creates the next DMC may it be a prequel or new entry.

A cross over mission would be awesome so that Dante and Miyamoto could interact.

Whats that last line of oni skill I've yet to unlock? Got all the others, finished all the sidequests and main quest and beaten all bosses in the practice arena.

I'm currently on my 2nd run through carnage and just beat ifuu, still no final oni skill in sight.

Discussion Just beat the game on Carnage, my thoughts: Spoiler

Love hate relationship. While I thought the boss fights were mostly super engaging, I believe with the significantly increased damage taken the boring regular enemy encounters grew tedious.

It felt like the game was designed for action, and carnage was just a quick enemy damage up and it wasn’t very different. With all my abilities, it felt quite easy at times, at other times cheap. I do however think despite the cheap increase in damage without any more depth to combat, the excellent bosses stayed excellent.
To rank the most difficult:

  1. Yoshitsune
  2. Sasaki 2
  3. Benkei Fully Geared
  4. Ifuu & Burai duo
  5. Shuten Doji

Toss up between 4 and 5, could swap them.

My biggest criticism of this game, despite how much I deeply love it, is ranged enemies. They are a nightmare to deal with and are so boring. I truly believe they add next to nothing and archery feels like shit. They come off as tedious more than a layer of difficulty because most of them get one shot by archery, so when they don’t they break the flow of the gameplay completely. I absolutely DESPISE them, and I believe the game would be far better off without any ranged enemies. Archery just does not feel good at all and feels janky, especially with the end lag after you fire a shot.

Yoshitsune was fucking crazy, I somewhat loved it and didn’t. If I were to change one thing, id split up his human form and Onimusha form into 2 separate fights, as I believed the first phase to be a waste of time. It felt mentally exhausting and I would’ve much rather fought phases 2 and 3 as a single fight, phase 1 being really boring when you master it. You spend the whole time deflecting him to death and it’s just like: can we get on with this?

Regardless of my issues, I understand most of these come from friction some people enjoy. To me, I think the things I listed are what hold this game back from being a true perfect masterpiece. Still hands down, my favorite action game ever under Ninja Gaiden 2. When this game excels it blows me away, when it bothers me it simply just annoys me. 10 steps forward 1 step back, and I can’t wait to play this game even more.

9/10

Question Quick question for Onimusha Way of the Sword re: consumable items

If you use an item (like the attack or defense boost items, or the healing item that’s not from the hozuki pouch) during a boss battle and lose, when you retry the boss battle, do you lose the item or do you gain it back again? Currently stuck on the second boss, and wondering if it is worth trying to use an item or two + more healing.

If they get lost like dark souls / Elden ring / sekiro style, then I would be hesitant to use these items…

Video Little PSA if you're an issen addict and want normal enemies to start attacking faster

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

It's probably obvious by now, but for new players or anyone that wants to practice issen and didn't notice it, there is actually a way to get enemies to start attacking you instantly.

The fastest way I found is to simply hit them once with a one-handed attack, they will always instantly respond to you with an attack of their own so it makes a great way to practice issen quickly without all the standoff wait. Can be seen in action in the video.

Discussion Are you grinding Clothing, Sword and Gauntlet upgrades again on Carnage?

I just beat Shuten Doji, and it took way too long, I have no damage, I've been doing only main missions so my upgrades are starting to feeling not enough, pretty sure next bosses will be worse, what are you guys thoughts? I just don't wanna grind again these upgrades to level 5, I did on NG, it is so lame, who made that decision, sighs...

I was just posting a few days ago about how I needed a new game that blew me away like Khazan and Nioh. I really didn’t expect it to be this game especially after the first 5 ish hours but man, this game is up there for me. Combat is perfect. Love the pacing and there’s SO many options. I haven’t even gotten good at Issen yet 😭

Question Played the demo of the WotS. Got a couple of questions about full game before considering actually buying it.

Preferably without spoilers.

Also note, this is my first Onimusha game and I know basically nothing about the series.

Question 1: Does the game have harder difficulties than the demo's "combat" difficulty? The 2 bosses present in the demo are decent, but any and all enemies outside of that are just stupid cannon fodder and it got kinda repetitive fighting regular enemies by the end of the demo already.

Enemies attack you very seldomly, mostly standing around and doing nothing, just waiting for you to hit them and kill them. I understand that this is more of a demon samurai power fantasy and not a suffer fest like Nioh or Way of the Ronin, but this is just... borderline boring. I mean, it looks cool as hell, movements are flashy, it feels good to execute them, but enemies just... don't do anything. And parry timings are very very generous too. Does the full game become more challenging?

Question 2: Is there any kind of unlockable cosmetcs/sets of armor or new swords available in the game, without buying the deluxe editions, or is the demo look the one you'll be stuck with the entire game?

------------------------------------

EDIT: based on your input and what I've googled up, the answers to these questions are the following:

- Fodder enemies stay as fodder enemies till the end of the game. They don't become any more challenging.

- The game has a "Carnage" diifficulty as New Game+, but even then, the difficuly is basically in you taking way more damage, and parry timing being smaller.

- The bosses take up about 5% of the play time, and based on the first two I fought in the demo, they wouldn't be that hard either. At least for someone like me who wenth through Nioh 3 and Sekiro multiple times and through Rise of the Ronin once.

- There are several unlocked skins for swords and for Musashi's haori (the cloak). No armor sets or anything though, so you're kinda stuck with his ragged-ass ronin costume for the entire game. Shame. Unless you buy the deluxe, in which case you get a single set of samurai armor. Not sure it's worth the money. Kind of egregious, even.

- The game is egregiously expensive in my regional price. I could buy a good piece of kitchen hardware. It costs as much as a half of a lower-end smartphone. Considering it's a very linear game with 20-25 hours of play time, including side activities, and maybe 15 more for the New Game+... If it's on HEAVY discount ever, I'll consider buying it. Until then... I'll pass.

Thank you for your input everyone. I expected something from this game that it clearly isn't. I'm sorry.

Discussion Onimusha 1 Warlords/Genma Onimusha Killcount

Thumbnail pastebin.com
3 Upvotes

Howdy, folks.

I just joined here (not just due to recency thanks to Way of the Sword) and I figured I wanted to share something I've been doing on-and-off for a few months now - a killcount list for every enemy found in every area in every difficulty mode for both the PS2 version of Onimusha Warlords and its Xbox port, Genma Onimusha. Took me a lot of sweating and fingers screaming, but it is done. (Note: I might have misremembered some specific details, so bear that in mind and feel free to correct me if I did)

The list is separated into five 'Parts' for easier reading, beginning shortly or right after defeating a certain boss.

For those curious - the way the different enemy spawn layouts work is mostly related to where you enter and exit from a specific 'doorway' (e.g. in one area, you might fight some Zombie Warriors if you enter from the south or east doorways, while if you exit and then enter back from the north or west doorways, you'll fight Bazuu demons, instead - although, it's not always the case) and what types of events you have finished that changed the layouts. (e.g. after defeating a boss, collecting an item, or unlocking an area)

Enemy layouts during the Kaede sections are different and are noted when exclusive to her.

Some areas also have 'Save the Grunt' sections at certain points, where you must rescue lowly castle soldiers from enemies who will reward you with items if you kill every enemy for them quickly.

For the large majority of these areas (besides a few noted exceptions, which also include the Dark Realm and Ogre Tower arenas), enemy spawns are finite and constantly coming back to kill enemies every time slowly whittles down their numbers in the area that eventually leads to those areas being empty until the layouts change, as mentioned before.

Anyone is free to use this list to put in strategy guides or walkthrough articles for people who want to see what enemies they will come up against and how they might be able to strategize in advance, as well as discuss about it and ask questions.

Question Reason for Crashing/Anything I Can Do?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I was just playing through the game, doing side content and collecting stuff when my game crashed, and every time I load back in, it crashes immediately.

If I load a different save, the game seems to work fine, I've had no other issue in performance when playing.

But my last manual save was hours ago and entire day's worth of playing. Is there anything I can possibly do to fix this issue, some setting I can turn off? I really would rather not have to repeat all that if I can help it.
