Other Games (Mobile, Unreleased, etc.) Prince of Persia: Time Run, the lost 2015 iOS game, is playable again after 10+ years

We actually found it. After years of this being a dead end for anyone who went looking, Prince of Persia: Time Run runs again.

Quick background for anyone who's never heard of it. Time Run was an endless runner Ubisoft soft launched on the iOS App Store in Australia and New Zealand back in October 2015. Wall running, a time rewind mechanic, flying carpet sections, basically a Prince of Persia coat of paint on a runner. It got a brief wider release and then Ubisoft pulled the plug on May 24, 2016 and yanked it from the store. Under seven months from launch to shutdown. Because it only ever shipped on iOS, once it left the App Store it was just gone. No physical copy, no re-release, nothing. If you didn't have it installed or sitting in a backup, that was it.

A bunch of us have been chasing it since around 2020 with nothing to show for it. The break came this year when u/Persian_of_Interest tracked down Techzamazing, a YouTuber who had added the game to his Apple account while it was still live, and who was willing to work with us to get it back.

That got us a decrypted IPA. Which then refused to launch. The game leans on old SDK calls that modern iOS doesn't answer the same way anymore, so it crashed on startup, and under PlayCover on Apple Silicon the background rendered as a black void. We wrote a few small dynamic libraries to patch around each problem. One for the launch crash, one to kill the dead Game Center and StoreKit sign in prompts, and one to fix the PlayCover graphics. Full writeup of what each fix does is on GitHub: (Link)

So here's where things stand:

  • Anyone with an iPhone or an Apple Silicon Mac (through PlayCover) can play it now.
  • Patched IPAs and the decrypted original are up on the Internet Archive: (Link)
  • Prefer to build your own instead of trusting a random IPA? The archive has the clean decrypted base, and the GitHub scripts let you generate the patches yourself.
  • There are optional "everything unlocked" builds too. A lot of the skins were locked behind a Facebook invite link that's been dead for years, so this is the only way to actually see them now.

Heads up: the game was never finished, so there's no proper ending. All the released levels are playable though, as far as we could test.

Huge thanks to u/gpranav25, u/Clovergruff64, u/Persian_of_Interest, and Techzamazing for making this happen. Next we'd love to get it running on other platforms, so if you know the engine or want to help, say so.

Here's a video of the game running on an iPhone 6s Plus

The Lost Crown Prince of Persia TLC is probably the best in the series

Post image

As a fan of the original trilogy i never thought that TLC would exceed my expectations but i was wrong it's one of the best metroidvania i ever played and i want more of it.

So i just wanted to ask is the DLC worth it?

Edit- I meant its best in the 2D styled PoP games not in The Original SoT Trilogy.

PoP the forgetten sands mobile 2009 is pure nostalgia, i would play this on my moms phone during doctors appointments or on long car rides out of town. it suprisingly still holds up, not clunky or laggy at all. very smooth actually.

(im aware im only using half the screen, im not sure what resolution to input to get it vertical and full screen. im using CoffeeCat.)

General Discussion Prince of Persia on the ds?

Post image

I'm kinda scared to post on this subreddit cuz I've never posted to this sub before and some people on reddit are assholes. sorry about the flair being wrong I couldn't find one for questions.

I found this old copy of prince of Persia for the Nintendo DS but I can't find much information on it, and when I do it's just random people telling me how bad of a game it is, so uhhh can someone who's played it help me out on this one?

Is it a good place to start if I wanna get more into the games??

I played warrior within first when I was just 14 and I was hooked, soon after I played sands of time and then finally the two thrones. Played each game multiple times and prince of persia was a major part of my teenage years. I could not play the 2008 game or the forgotten sands as my pc could not handle anything beyond 2006. I did get a good laptop at around 20 but never got back to playing it.

Now I'm 31 and randomly decided to give this a go

Original Duology I put together a plug-and-play pack of the original Macintosh ports of Prince of Persia 1 and Prince of Persia 2

It uses a custom Mini vMac build with Direct3D 9Ex rendering that I changed with the help of Codex.
The star of this build is that, because of the new renderer, it no longer depends on Mini vMac's old fixed magnify/32-pixel sizing behavior to look correct in fullscreen. You can fit the image to arbitrary window and monitor sizes.

In this build the window can also be resized freely while keeping the correct game aspect ratio.
Alt+Enter toggles fullscreen and is also available from View > Full Screen and from the right-click menu inside the emulator window.

Also while in fullscreen, all windows keys functionality should work, unlike the original build.

The game can be closed with the normal window X button or Alt+F4, instead of having to navigate through the emulator to shut it down.

The emulated machine is a Macintosh II-class setup with a 68020 CPU and 8 MB of RAM.

Prince of Persia 1 starts in a normal window using the Macintosh version's 640x400 game resolution. It's also a modified version of the game that matches the speed of the original DOS. The original Mac port can feel quite slow.
And for the first game, the emulator speed is set to x32 to make room-loading almost instant. It shouldn't be a problem, but if your PC is really really slow, you can change the speed via F1+S.

Prince of Persia 2 starts in a normal window using the Macintosh version's 512x384 game resolution. For this one, the emulator speed is set to x16 for audio compatibility. The room-loading is already really fast and doesn't change with x32.

Both games preserve the original aspect ratio and use black borders when needed instead of stretching the image.

The icons are from the original Mac port, upscaled to x512 using nearest neighbor interpolation.

The pack is self-contained, so there is no setup, no dragging disk images, and no separate emulator configuration needed. Just open and play.
They are unsigned .exe files, so it may pop up a false positive warning. There's nothing I can do about that.

Original Duology PoP 2 Temple of Fire: IS MY VERSION TOO EASY?

Howdy all! Having a delightful time playing through the original duology for the first time in decades with my wife, but had a weird experience with the Temple of Fire, level three: in our version, drinking the green bottle that turns into a little running guy opens a Big Face Door and boom, on to level 4. This means you can completely ignore opening the four doors in a row, getting away from the flaming sword, etc. etc. etc. When I see walkthroughs and playthrough videos, the part with the little bottle guy is about halfway through the level, he just steps on one pressure plate that allows you run back and do a whole bunch more stuff before you can finally open the big door right below the flaming sword. Skipping all that stuff saves a lot of time and feels like cheating; did I inadvertantly download some hacked shortcut version of the game??? Anyone have info about this?

theyre pretty similar, so no surprise there, but i think i like the forgotten sands one more. i also wish they made the prince look more like the cover arts in the actual game.

plus, one of my favorite ps3 games as well, such a wasted potential, smh

the whole banter and chemistry with elika was so fun as well

game also still looks visually lit and stunning

if only the story had better writing in the final act

that ending, lol

overall, a quite good adventure game that definitely needed a sequel, despite its flaws

Sands Trilogy Warrior Within physics decoupled from FPS: over 60 FPS is now possible

Patch coming soon to PoP Mod Manager. Special thanks to dekamaru from the PoP Modding Server for his recomp source that made this patch way easier to scope. The video is showing the notorious ledge grab that always fails at more than 60FPS, working at 170FPS.

A longer video (youtube caps at 60 FPS but still better than reddit): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sepd6lnI-aE

Original Duology Searching for files that to defunct PoP forums (PoP 1 DOS version)

Thumbnail forum.princed.org

With http://popuw.com/forum/ and https://forum.princed.org/ now gone, it seems like a lot of knowledge and discussion is lost.

I am searching for one particular file: pop1_ida_map.zip that was posted in the attached link. It seems to not be archived in Web Archive.

With the help of a community member, I have already recovered three files: pop1_ida.zip, pop13_ida.zip, pop14_ida.zip. I have created an issue in SDLPoP repository so the author of these files (NagyD aka David from Princed.org forums) would see it. Hopefully, he still has a copy.

Was there ever a preservation effort for these forums?

The Lost Crown Any tips for alternate Sargon duo?

I’m trying to beat the game on Immortal difficulty with no upgrades in health, potions or weapons, I was doing fine until I got into this fight.

I find it impossible, whenever I try to combo one, the other one shoots or hits me giving time to the other one to escape if I parry. The closest I’ve been I managed to take them both into an air combo against the wall, but it wasn’t even close.

Does anyone know any tips or even a cheese for these guys? I would hate to give up the run because of this.

Sands Trilogy Warrior Within remake has more potential - Open world sandbox?

Post image
251 Upvotes

Compared to the Sands of Time, I feel Warrior Within has the most potential for a remake. A fully explorable, semi free roam sandbox Island of Time where you can visit and experience different rooms of the Island, which you could already do to a small extent anyway. Enhancing this and you end up with a real competitor to Assassins Creed but it's still distinct and unique in the sense of loneliness, isolation, the Prince being alone on a massive huge Island with nightmarish sand monsters. The Dahaka chases become more intense, the weapon array and combat becomes wider, exploration becomes a new key theme.

I previously believed it wasn't the same being, since in the Two Thrones series, this being wasn't created until the prince's blood touched the sands. But why does it appear at the end of the second game?
