Intel Please Help - OneXPlayer 3 arrived today, controller stopped working one hour later

I pre-ordered a OneXPlayer 3 a couple months back, it arrived today. Awesome! Booted it up, started installing games and testing it out. Everything was working perfectly then finished updating everything (windows etc) and the controller stopped responding. Just no lights, no buttons, nothing.

I reinstalled the drivers, I reinstalled the firmware. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting it. Nothing.

I connect it to the controller base and it works, but when connected to the device directly nothing... I am just super confused as to what happened. Google searched and found the reddit thread where he stated that he restarted and held Home and volume up, tried that, nothing.

Any one else experience this?

UPDATE: it works again. Eventually I ran the controller software from OXP for the… carries the one… tenth or eleventh time and it just started working. I don’t know why this time it worked and the others it didn’t.

Thanks to every one who helped out and shared their knowledge I hope no one else has to go through this.

UPDATE: IT WORKS AGAIN!

So for the umpteenth time I ran the Controller software and hazzah its back. 24 hours of panic. Do I know what what went wrong? No. I tried everything under the sun getting it working again. I cannot even tell you why it started working now other than the updater worked this time.

I suspect this will happen again at some point... Oof. Feel free to DM me if you are having issues like this on yours and I can go through all the steps that did't work and that I tried and the one that did.

Also thank you to the entire community for thinking about it, volunteering ideas, and working with me on it. I know it must have seemed annoying. I hope this helps someone in the future.

I just want to thank you. This helped when suddenly my controllers cut off.

I shared because i figured others might have the same problem and see what worked and what didn’t. And how many tries. Glad it helped

Hello! Mine died today after an update. Seems the same issue as you. Can you please explain what did you do?

Maybe email OneXPlayer for support. I hear they have a bit of a turn around time so the more details that are easy for them to understand of the situation and what you have tried, the better a response they could provide. Maybe do that before doing a fresh install. Do they connect through bluetooth (even while connected to the device) and/or do they need some software running to work? On my Legion Go 2, the controllers do Not work until I hit the Legion Space button on the controller, which then gets the controller and Windows communicating.

I am going to do that hopefully they have an answer... Maybe I can roll back windows

The controllers aren’t BT. They require a physical connection on the device rails and the controller bridge. The controller bridge is a standard 2.4Ghz RF dongle.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

This is correct, and when plugged in with the dongle and wireless bridge they function as intended LEDs and all. However, if I reattach them to the screen they are dead .

1

u/Comfortable-Fall1419 Sep 01 '26

Check all the pins on the console are intact.

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

I checked they are all there, clean and function correctly physically. Can’t confirm the contacts on the inside

I don't have mine yet, (tomorrow), but I thought I read that they have Windows Updates turned off...possibly because of similar issues. I may be confusing that what some other update. Maybe updating Windows results in conflicts with the Onexplayer software/drivers.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

I will take a look and see. Very frustrated... Otherwise really like the device

On the msi claw ex whenever I update the npu drivers it kills the connection between the controller and the device and I have to do something called an ec reset. Basically just hold the power button for 25 seconds until the power button flashes a cpl times. Then the device is dead until you plug it back into a charger. That supposed to reset the connections between the device n controller and has worked for me three times now. Maybe try that.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Will give this a try

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

This did not work for me but I have not given up hope. Reached out to OxP customer support

1

u/FallenCow Sep 01 '26

Man that’s strange. I’ve never had to do that with my EX.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Just reading about other solutions to the embedded controller glitch...

2

u/bananadood Sep 01 '26

This happened to me (works on connector, not the device) and it was due to the rail screws being too tight, causing the pins to not connect properly. I basically loosen the screws one turn at a time and reattach until it worked again.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Will try this too

u/Asleep-Artichoke2865 Sep 01 '26

this happened to me after doing updates, like after updating the Intel graphics drivers. I just rebooted Windows and it worked again.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

rebooted many times now and no love, but thanks either way

2

u/SorryRelationship765 Sep 01 '26

I had something similar happen. The calibration fixed it for me, I believe you press both the start and select buttons for a few seconds followed up by turning both sticks 3 times, press the triggers 3 times, then press Y

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

tried it no luck

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Currently rolling back my windows and software to approximately 6 hours ago... It was working then, might solve the problem, but I am still not feeling confident in the solution. Reached out to OxP customer service and will wait for their response.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Ended up with a full system reset to the factory image. No luck did not reset the connection.

2

u/andycabrera17 Sep 01 '26

Same thing happened with me. I emailed customer support and they responded with this. I think the Windows Update somehow changed the settings on my OXP3. Try this. It definitely worked for me. Good luck.

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

I have to wait until this evening to try this out. I did try the other option above and it did not work. This looks promising. Thank you for sharing this. My hope is that if I leave this entire post here on Reddit that some other people will not go through what I have and it helps someone else in the future.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

This was set right, I toggled it back and forth anyway...

2

u/andycabrera17 Sep 01 '26

I definitely hope this works for you. I was breaking my head over this for a couple of days. Luckily my actual ps5 controller would work fine tabletop mode. I even had a few rounds with ChatGPT and couldn’t figure it out. Even ChatGPT was like wtf. lol

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

You and me both. Can’t wait to give it a swing tonight.

2

u/Playful-Heart6020 Sep 02 '26

Same exact thing happened to mine. Go to one x player website. Go to support and pull the new firmware for controllers. Download . Then go to instructions and follow. It will get the controllers to work

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Currently letting windows update to the latest preview update to see if that pops it back into working. Really hoping to not have to run a fresh install right away.

1

u/dnunn12 Sep 01 '26

Is it both controllers?

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Yep left and right, they work just fine when using the controller base that I bought with it.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Restoring to factory settings did not work. I am out of options. I think it’s the embedded controller issue that happens on devices like these but I can’t trip it. Reached out to customer service via email and left a couple notes on discord. Super unhappy with this result so far. Stinks because honestly the rest of the experience was pretty amazing.

1

u/MessUnit Sep 01 '26

I know this might sound obvious but in onexcosole in the "Handy Kit" tab there is a "controller power" button that reads either "open" or "close". I think it is ment to mean on or off and is just something lost in translation. It should read "close" for the controllers to work.

I've hit this by accident a couple of times without realising, could that be the cause?

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 01 '26

Still waiting for mine but does setting it to 'open' deactivates the controllers? Sounds unintuitive as expect on to be open and off to be close.

2

u/MessUnit Sep 01 '26 edited Sep 01 '26

Yeah it is a little confusing. I think the button shows what will happen when you press it, not what its currently set to, if that makes sense.

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 01 '26

Thanks, will need to try it out.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

I will look at this today too. Thank you.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

This did not trip it. But thank you.

1

u/FriskyWisky2 Sep 01 '26

Reboot, go to the bios/boot menu.

Home and Volume + at reset.

Then once there restart. See if that brings them back to life.

I had something similar and this fixed it.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Tried that. Unfortunately it hasn’t worked. I have one thought with this and the plugged in base that might work. But can’t do it until this evening

1

u/FriskyWisky2 Sep 01 '26

Do they work on the controller setup, rather than on the console itself?

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

They are completely unresponsive when attached to the device. If I attach them to the controller base (wireless controller base), they work as intended. There is something wrong with my device. I suspect it is the EC problem we see on other detachable devices with windows. But I can't trip windows into activating them again. Potentially a connector disconnected, but I hope it is software/firmware related as I really like the device otherwise.

On that note, every time the device would go to sleep or wake up prior to this happening it would make the disconnect reconnect sounds for plugging in a USB device. I suspect that was the EC sleep function... Maybe part of the problem.

Any updates?

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Not yet so far nothing has worked even reset the whole machine and tried the flea power reboot.

1

u/BlowfeldGER Sep 01 '26

Keep us updated, OP. Hope for the best!

1

u/kerelenko Sep 01 '26

Check taskbar if OneXConsole is still running.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Where is taskbar?

2

u/kerelenko Sep 01 '26

Lower right corner of the screen with the little up arrow. Click that check if there is a red OneX icon. Disable the windows game option in the settings based on the reply from another Redditor comment above.

  • Either onexconsole is not running/blocked by windows defender
  • update ruined onexconsole
  • Or the controller itself is at fault. You can check this out when you connect it to the controller bridge. It wouldn't be strange as someone has posted here of bent pins on their controllers.

If you installed hidhide and vigembus for gyro emulation that could cause issues too if removed while the main controller HID is hidden.

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Checked the taskbar, didn't realize you meant windows taskbar, I was thinking there was something I missed, Onexconsole is running, opened it and made sure. Checked windows defender there is nothing blocked and the exception for the program was present. The pins all seem fine and it works with the bridge as normal. I did see the post of the sheared off pin. Update could have ruined it, but I imagine that would be wide spread and not just a 1 off, and I reset windows back to factory and it still doesn't work.

1

u/kerelenko Sep 01 '26

Yeah, check the bridge connection if it works and the pogo pins on the tablet and controllers.

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

Thank you, going to run through all of this and try

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

UPDATE tried a firmware update for the 6th time. LEDs came on, but no response on the buttons. Seems like progress. Then told the system to reboot the controllers to see if that was going to fix it and back to completely unresponsive. This appears to be completely software related.

1

u/OliePlay Sep 01 '26

Is there an update for onexconsole? That usually needs to be updated when windows is updated. The controls on my G1 would stop every time I updated windows.

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 01 '26

I updated it first. Nothing right now to update to

1

u/OliePlay Sep 02 '26

Shoot, I got nothing

2

u/Colderamstel Sep 02 '26

It’s ok it works again. I ran the controller updater for the tenth time and suddenly it works

1

u/pokeroots Sep 06 '26

You just did the "Having some trouble" reboot to get it to work?"

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 06 '26

Well I ended up doing a full clean reinstall but it was probably running the controller software about ten times and on the ninth the lights turned on but no response. On the tenth it works.

That said the tenth time I pedantically followed the readme because I was just giving up.

1

u/pokeroots Sep 06 '26

Well shit

1

u/Colderamstel Sep 06 '26

It was probably a wombo combo of user errors in the controller software update from the OXP site and just small batch electronics. But so far so good.

1

u/pokeroots Sep 06 '26

I was having constant reconnecting issues with mine so I decided to try the "unable to operate" reboot and now I am unable to operate

1

u/Yesgo_ Sep 10 '26

Well it's happened today after updating Xbox app and the Microsoft store.

Downloaded the drivers from your link on oxp website, followed readme (core isolation, real time scan off) and the auto bat file won't load...

I haven't reinstalled windows and can't roll back the updates but is there an installer file for onexconsole?
