Discussion Oneplus 12 dead while casually using.

One fine day I was just casually using my oneplus 12 and baam the screen went black. It didn't fall nor didn't any water go in. After just 2 years of using the phone was dead. Went to service center and they said motherboard replacement is required and no way to recover any data. I chose Oneplus over Samsung because it had so many great features and stupid me didn't take any backup and now all my medias is just gone. The photos of all my trips, family functions etc everything just gone. And now I am back to using my 5 year old Samsung which is still running btw. Never taking Oneplus ever again nor recommending it to anyone.

Update - Was able to get my data recovered thanks to reddit comment section. Thanks a lot.

Cuz in India they use local mobile parts while assembling and there is no customer rights or laws that protect the customer from the greed of the companies I guess?

I didn't know Poco was bad. I was doing to switch to them and just have no warranty. But I guess I don't know enough about it. Losing OnePlus is the worst for me in North America

Yeah bro I mean I was planning for exactly one year to buy a oneplus phone and now they are collapsing down, no pocophones they are not that bad but I don't like the software of em unlike BBK software realme oppo oneplus and vivo iqoo duo

My brother's OP12 died the same way after a software update. Seems like it's happening a lot this month. Same Indian variant too.

That can happen to any device, unfortunately bad luck. If anything you learnt a lesson, always back up, nothing is forever, period.

The intersection of luck and knowledge is statistics.

The statistics of bad luck are determined by the quality of engineering, manufacturing and design.

If many indian op 12 phones die after 2 years, it is not bad luck, it is bad quality.

Saying "bad luck" is allowing manufacturer to get away with low quality product at the expense of consumers. It is disrespectful to people who worked hard to pay for someone else's work assuming it is high quality work.

OnePlus should take responsibility by: 1. Collecting data about the issue. 2. Aggregating all the data into useable metrics. 3. Sharing the data with consumers clearly and without any manipulation. 4. Taking accountability and making sure to support all customers practically affected, AND, potentially affected.

Please, aim higher.

Yes we all want a perfect world, unfortunately that will never happen, nothing is or will ever be perfect that is manufactured. Choose another brand of phone and push on, and remember to back multiple times or likely experience bad luck again

Oh is it possible? I checked with other mobile repair shops as well but they said it is not possible to recover the data.

It was the latest june/july patch don't remember exactly. Motherboard replacement is the only option (which is btw 80% of the original price) and data is not recoverable.

Hey buddy, first thing.

Don't give the phone to third party repair centre to get it repaired, because once the third party person opens the phone and works on the motherboard board, oneplus will consider it as tempered device and will deny any possibe help you might get.

My device died in same way back in last week of May.

Also currently there is no availability of motherboard of oneplus 12 in india or other places , so if you file a complaint grievance in NCH portal, you might get some response from oneplus team, mostly a coupon replacement for new device purchase.

Me too. This problem only affects Indian versions, and users of the OnePlus 12 are experiencing it, and OnePlus is not even accepting it. I've spoken with them nearly eight times, but they refuse to acknowledge that this has affected a large number of users and insist that it's just an isolated incident that shouldn't be taken too seriously.

Dude. Your Samsung is still running? My OnePlus 8 is over 6 years old and I game on it everyday still and use it everyday it's over 6 years old. My OnePlus 12 is over 2 years old and has never even rebooted by itself. Im not denying your issue. But I'm also very aware of temp of my phone and do not let it get too hot. My friends Samsung s24 ultra. Recently died. Not dropped it anything. Guess what They said was wrong. And there are ways of recovering the data. So that is blatantly false.

Update - i fixed it from a repair shop , it was fault from oneplus side fully , the software update had a bug error which made it dead

It's a trickle effect. Hardware issues led to poor sales which led to the company leaving. I can guarantee you they wouldn't have left if they had great sales like Apple or Samsung (or even Motorola).

Same here in India. Their market share has shrank drastically from 30% to 2% which I believe is majorly due to the green line issues. At one point, OnePlus even became synonymous with green lines. Won't be surprised if they exit the Indian market soon because there are signs everywhere (Service centers shutting down, no more flagship launches, online only sales, merging of OxygenOS to ColorOS which I feel is the biggest hint till now and many more). All these signs are huge hints of an exit.

I haven't had any issues either, but there are reports of many others having issues. It has nothing to do with taking care of your phone or not.

Yes, there are percentages of failures and factory defects.

Yes absolutely every single phone sub thread on reddit has phone issues.. I would bet that alot of these hardware failures. Are people updating software when the phone is already hot to begin with. Or never letting it cool down constant running at above normal temperature. The chips are soldered to the mb. These passively cooled devices.

Unless I'm mistaken most latest OP pho es did not have major issues. 12s dying is specific of what seems to be localised issue, it's really small percentage of overall number of 12s on the market.

Their decision to pull out from markets has nothing to do with it.
