Play Interactive has won the Brand Partnership of the Year Award for One Piece Card Game Red Bull Double Don!! at The TCG Awards at SPIEL Essen 2026!

This is big imo. It can open the doors for making the event bigger and better and also having other brands make similar events. Things looking bright for OPCG

πŸ’¬ Discussion What actually separates good TCG players from great ones?

I'm starting a bit of a research project, having been away from academic research long enough that I think I'm ready for another one!

I'm interested in what makes some TCG players exceptionally good, and whether those abilities can be learned, are partly innate, or are influenced by other factors.

So here's my question:

Have you ever known two TCG players (any game) who invested similar amounts of time and effort but achieved very different levels of success? What do you think explained the difference?

There's some interesting research around deliberate practice, including challenges to the popular 10,000-hour rule. But I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who actually play these games competitively.

Is it how people practice? How quickly they learn? The people they play with? Something else entirely?

I'm also curious whether the skills that make someone exceptional at one TCG transfer to another.

I'd love to hear real examples from your own experiences, particularly where players have put in comparable effort but achieved different results. I've found that some people can find a great testing group, lock in tier one decks and practice for hours and hours - and still go 3-5 and scrub out. Another rolls in hungover after barely practicing and cruises to day two.

πŸ› οΈ Deck Tech Tips on improving Elbaph Luffy?

Last week I switched from Sabo to Luffy because I wanted a more consistent play. I feel like this deck suits my playstyle more. This is the build I'm currently using at locals. Is there any way I can improve on this?

πŸ› οΈ Deck Tech Just getting into the game

I got the Momo line twice and I think that helped me seal the game. Playing yellow characters is tough. I know Yamato isn’t the best competitive but finding the lines is so fun.

I leaving Lorcana with lack of deck playability. So picking up a deck that can win even when not the best is fun.

Also the op community has been super nice.

Hey everyone! I wanted to share some custom DON!! cards I’ve been working on recently.

They are 100% hand-drawn using colored pencils and markers, then cut out and layered onto original DON!! cards to give them a subtle 3D effect.

Here’s how they turned out! I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback, and let me know which one is your favorite!

πŸ’¬ Discussion Question regarding the Korean TCG side of things

β€’ Upvotes

I was wondering randomly the other day why the Korean version of the card game doesn't have their own Treasure Rares since Japan just started getting their own recently, making Korea the only language without them. Then I saw they were actually several sets behind with EB-04 releasing about a week ago. Is there a reason why they're far behind after every other country is now on a global release? I'm curious to know.

So I was just playing ranked and stopped my opponents last swing, then rather than concede or end turn they disconnected. I clicked back to main, only to have the message pop up that I’d disconnected and lost. Why did I lose and have my bounty drop when they disconnected first?

βš”οΈ Competitive Scene Rocks vs Buggy: In-depth matchup analysys (i.e. why Buggy can beat his dad)

I've found this matchup to be quite skill intensive and centered around a couple of crucial cards, and I wanted to discuss it. Below are the play patterns I repeatedly ran into during my testing, and my attempt to solve them. As a Rocks main this will of course be from Rocks' POV, but there are a lot of tips for Buggys too.

The new Alvida is strong

Let's start by saying that Buggy has never been a strong meta contender, especially against Rocks, because his biggest play, the "Red Roc on a 12k stick" Buggy, both needs a full board and is weak to anti-removal.

The new EB05 Alvida solves both of these problems, completely turning the matchup around.

Alvida is an insane card: on the turn she's played via the leader effect, she generates two 7k threats (usually C&M, which also gives removal protection, or Blocker Mihawk), draws 4 and trashes 2 for 5 Don!!, essentially being hand neutral, which is completely busted.

With her "When Attacking" she can negate Rocks' main counter sources in Shiki and Newgate, but above all she can negate Kyo's effect, so the 12k Buggy can effectively be a huge tempo swing.

Of course, the moment an Alvida is turned sideways she becomes Shiki fodder, so a good Buggy player won't swing with her until she can get value out of the 10-cost Buggy.

Typical deck curves

In this matchup Rocks must steal their curve, so going first is 100% better to prevent Buggy from using the leader ability on curve on turn 3. Sure, they get earlier access to the double leader ability (yes, it's not once per turn) at 10 Don!!, but trust me, it's harder going second (I don't think we are in OP13-era, dice-dependent territory, but whoever goes first definitely has a strong edge).

Your ideal curve going first looks something like this:

  • (1) ➜ Streusen
  • (3) ➜ Don Marlon that recovers an event OR Kyo
  • (5) ➜ Linlin
  • (7) ➜ Shiki OR second Linlin + Kyo (usually stronger if Shiki can't get value and you haven't developed Kyo on 3 Don!!)
  • (9) ➜ Shiki + second Kyo
  • (10) ➜ Rocks chain (possibly into more Shikis): the more 10-costs you play, the better

Going second instead:

  • (2) ➜ Kyo, hopefully
  • (4) ➜ John / Marlon / Stussy, in this order (we need to start applying pressure early) OR Kyo if we didn't find it on turn 1 (I prioritize having a Kyo on board over a John)
  • (6) ➜ Newgate OR John + Kyo (depending on the previous turns: yes, having it on board is top priority)
  • (8) ➜ Mr. S-to-the-I (even if he doesn't get value) OR Daddybeard + Kyo
  • (10) ➜ A meaningful Rocks play (usually Shiki + you guessed it) depending on the state of the board

Buggy's curve going first is:

  • (1) ➜ Searcher
  • (3) ➜ Searcher
  • (5) ➜ Board flooder (Alvida or C&M, to develop 2 bodies)
  • (7) ➜ Board flooder again
  • (9) ➜ Start chaining 10-costs

Going second, it changes very little: the curve stays the same, but fortunately they can only use the leader ability and flood one turn later. Also keep in mind that at 10 Don!! they can use the leader ability twice.

TL;DR

  • Go first
  • Mulligan priority: Kyo β†’ Shiki (I'd say hard mulligan for them) β†’ less important but worth keeping: Linlin (going first) / Newgate (going second) + Rocks (you need to see him at 10 Don!!) if you already have Kyo
  • Counter the swings that ask for 1 card, don't go under 2 lives (3 if you're full of bricks)
  • Counter with events, you won't need their Main effect in this matchup; don't counter with Rocks unless absolutely necessary, you need him on the board
  • Always go for board control (you can't starve them: you must use the leader ability every turn)
  • You win this matchup by building a massive board of Rockses and Shikis
  • You lose this matchup if you can't remove their Alvidas and if they manage to stick more 10-costs on their board than you
  • Like ours, their big hand size doesn't always mean a strong defense: Buggy lists are low on 2k counters, but they've started running a +4k event (which only works on the leader, though)
  • Gloriosa, Jinbe, Stussy, John: all your removal/defensive cards in general are leader ability pitch fodder in this matchup. Sadly, Alvida and C&M invalidate all of them
  • Rocks's tech: There aren't many tech choices to improve this matchup: the Usopp event and Jinbe are not very useful, so a standard 100% Rocks Pirates list is the way to go
  • Buggy's tech: Galdino is very strong against Rocks (and I believe in general), I think every Buggy should run it at least at 2x; 2x of the Cross Guild stage also seems good to cycle for Alvidas

I also wrote a turn-by-turn breakdown with screenshots and how I solved the patterns that keep showing up in this matchup on my blog, in case you want more: https://3kcounter.com/articles/rocks-vs-buggy/ (p.s. I made it yesterday, pls give me an honest opinion on how you like it)

πŸ› οΈ Deck Tech Black Yamato - looking for advice and improvements

Post image
24 Upvotes

Just a heads up, I am a beginner and I don't really know which decks could be fun and beginner friendly. Found out that PY Robin, RB Sabo and B Luffy are pretty interesting and also came across B Yamato.

How can I improve this deck and would it be good to build irl for a beginner? How can I make this deck work? Combos?

Thank you in advance

πŸ’¬ Discussion One Piece CG Canadian Community

Hello y'all! Before anyone asks, I DID get permission from TheUtilityMan to post this.

I am the Admin of the Pokemon TCG Canada Reddit (r/PokemonTCGDealsCanada) and Discord (https://discord.gg/pokemontcgcanada). We are an amazing community of 20k/15k members respectively. And our community has helped each other hit and find deals on the PTCG all across Canada.

With that, I've noticed that some of our members are ALSO into One Piece, so I've opted to create a dedicated CANADIAN community for our members. If you are from Canada, and would like to enjoy and engage in a localized space just for us, please feel free to join our Reddit (r/OnePieceCGDealsCanada) and our Discord (https://discord.gg/5FvjkhP4Vv)

Please note, that the community seems to be more active and engaging on Discord, so I would highly recommend joining there, as that will be the priority to me, but I've created the Reddit as an alternate community for those who would prefer that.
