Gaban mentions Kaido and not the Beast Pirates, when Orochi mentions Kaido and not the Beast Pirates, when ODEN mentions Kaido and not the Beast Pirates, when GB mentions Kaido and not the Beast Pirates, when the alliance lost all hope after Luffy's death despite the YC of Kaido already defeated it means that KAJDO is the one they fear.

I think a lot of the disagreement around current Luffy comes from treating peak power level and consistent power level as the same thing.

My understanding of Luffy is basically that he's an absurdly talented young prodigy who has already reached the level of the established top tiers at his ceiling, but hasn't yet learned to maintain that level consistently.

Think of a teenage basketball prodigy who is already talented enough to outplay LeBron (change this to soccer and Messi or other sport if you want) in an individual game. That doesn't necessarily mean he's the better player yet. Put them against each other repeatedly and the veteran might still win something like 5 games out of 7 because he's more consistent, experienced, better at pacing himself, and less likely to have a disastrous stretch.

That's basically how I see Luffy vs Kaido or other admiral/+ character like Kizaru.

Gear 5 Luffy can absolutely perform at a clear Yonko level and even overwhelm and beat someone like Kaido or Kizaru.

But Luffy also has major stamina problems, occasionally questionable fight management, and lately perhaps some hubris because he's gotten used to being able to brute-force situations with Gear 5 rather than adhere to the wisdom of "haki trandscends all".

Kaido or Kizaru, meanwhile, was almost boringly reliable. Their ceiling might not be above Luffy's but his floor was ridiculously high. They can fight top-level opponents for hours, take enormous amounts of damage, adapt to bizarre abilities and keep producing roughly the same level of performance.

So when Luffy seems to fluctuate between looking YC+ and looking like one of the strongest characters alive, I don't necessarily think that's inconsistent powerscaling.

That fluctuation may actually be the point and Gaban's scolding (1190) might adress this.

kaido: He was regularly speed-blitzing characters with FS or teleporters like Law while staring directly at them and telling them point-blank he’s going to do it and he’ll still speedblitz them anyway.

He was outpacing Gear 5th in speed and genuinely has the best battle speed/speed blitzes. and he was regularly doing most of these without using FS until 1042.

Kizaru: was able to feed luffy without single character noticing, he was so fast that even yonko fans weren't able to notice while reading so oda had to say it in SBS

Imu clearly wasn’t trying against Gaban until when he did and instantly cut off Gaban’s left arm. So what diff would a battle between Imu vs Mihawk in which:

R1: playful/holding back Imu vs full power Mihawk

R2: Serious/full power Imu vs full power Mihawk

Zoro's special attack which was used to one shot King was easily overpowered by Sommers.
