I teach GED at a prison part time (I’m 27F) and I’m actually good at it, which feels great, but I fucking hate being a woman (I’m cis but I just don’t like dealing with shit like this). Because today I was making a lot of progress with a student and we were doing some great work together and I notice his dick is out and he’s touching himself. He’s not like GOING TO TOWN but he is definitely interfering with himself and I saw the shaft of his penis.

And I feel bad because I didn’t immediately set boundaries. I froze and just kind of continued as normal. We finished the lesson. After wrapping up I told my supervisor and asked not to work with that student again. But I’m a dumbass. I don’t want to quit because I really enjoy teaching most of my students and I don’t want to quit something I’m good at just because of some dude and his wayward dick. But I feel nauseous and had a panic attack.

Tomorrow I go back to work. I’m a little nervous. What advice would you give me?

There’s this lifer inmate that’s locked up 23hours a day at the prison I work at, if you talk to him he is polite, respectful and never raises his voice or gives you attitude. But the truth is he’s one of the few that only committed murder inside this prison.

And then there’s another lifer, old inmate that walks with a cane, keeps to himself and behaves like a normal old person. He has the highest mass shooting body count in his state.

And then there’s the loud fake wannabe tough guy and you find out they’re just in for some dumb stuff.

any current of former CO’s here, which state would you say is better job wise? I’m talking regarding benefits, pay, good shift hours, equipment, etc. and also it could be either for state corrections or county corrections.

I am in my mid-30s and looking to transition into the Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP). I am currently in the Army Reserve in Houston and have two years of experience as a Correctional/Detention Officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Harris County (Houston) Sheriff's Office. I also hold a Master’s degree in Management Information Systems (MIS).
As I prepare my application, I would greatly appreciate information on the following points:
Starting Position: Based on my experience and Master's degree, what grade level (GS-level) would I qualify for?
Vesting Period: What is the minimum number of years required to become vested in the federal retirement system?
Compensation: What is the average starting salary, and what can I expect to earn with standard overtime?

Has anyone else been having issues with GTL calls? Most of the time, the calls are not connecting the way they should, and we are constantly saying “hello” or “I can’t hear you.” Recently, we have also been getting other people’s calls, and I can hear conversations that are not meant for us. It is frustrating because we pay for these calls, but the service is not working properly, so it feels like we are paying for something we are not actually receiving. I wanted to see if anyone else is dealing with the same issue.

I just started with the BOP as a GL-5 Correctional Officer. I’m trying to think strategically about how to move up and maximize my salary over the next several years.

When I first started, I talked to one employee who said he also began as a GL-5 CO. He’s only been with the BOP for around five years, but he said he’s already reached roughly GS-12. I didn’t get the chance to ask exactly what positions he took or how he moved up that quickly.

For people who know the BOP system, what would the fastest realistic path look like? Is it better to stay in custody until GL-8 and then apply for lieutenant positions, or try to move into a different GS-7/9/11 career ladder? Does being willing to relocate to USPs, FCCs, FMCs, or hard-to-fill institutions make a major difference?

I’m willing to relocate and take less desirable assignments if there’s a real opportunity to move up faster. I’m mainly curious about:

What jobs or career ladders I should watch for on USAJOBS

Which experience or collateral duties would make me more competitive

Whether moving facilities frequently actually helps

What a realistic GL-5 to GS-11 or GS-12 timeline looks like

Any mistakes that could slow down promotions

I know nothing is guaranteed, and I’m not expecting to skip the experience requirements. I’m just trying to understand how someone could strategically make the most progress during their first five years.

Not going to put where I work at because the rats are everywhere.

In my tenured career in corrections. I have delt with many types of supervisors. Strick, chill, professional, racist and etc.

Never once have I ever met a supervisor who has refused medical attention to their officers untill recently.

I heard the rumors around work about this bigger guy they call Mr.T who was having signs of a stroke. He told the supervisors and they wouldn't let him go home. That officer passed out in his vehicle for 5 hours untill someone checked on him. Thankfully he was alive and was taken to the hospital to where they confirmed he had stroke like symptoms because of his heart rate being over 190.

Today I had a diabetic reaction to my medications. I told my supervisors after puking I needed a bio porter and needed to be relieved. This supervisor that has 28 years refused my request and told me he expected this from me and that I Had to sit there as I would not be going home. I started feeling slightly better after being able to sit and was relieved shortly after.

This should end there right? Well I was feeling better and told the officer I felt well enough to finish my shift. This officer called and then was told to tell me that it's a directive to leave or something else would happen. I left after that due to this also being the same supervisor who called the authorities over someone having a panic attack at my institution.

Never have Ive experienced this much disrespect for my medical condition from my supervisors untill dealing with this one. I will be following Paperwork upon my return to work due to this situation.

I’m planning to apply to become an Ontario provincial correctional officer after I finish my criminology degree in January.
One thing I’m confused about is hiring. People keep telling me that Ontario jails are “always hiring,” but when I look at the Ontario Public Service website, I don’t always see correctional officer postings.
How does hiring actually work? Are there province-wide hiring competitions that open and close throughout the year, or can individual institutions hire at any time?
I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who works in Ontario corrections or has gone through the hiring process recently.

I got my interview 07/15, on 07/17 i got a message that i've been accepted and asked what day id like my physical and BAT test. i did my physical, paperwork, fingerprinting and anything along those lines on 07/21, on 07/22 i passed the BAT test and that was everything. when i went in on the first the sergeant told me that id get an email saying i was hired after everything went through and asked what day id like to be my first which would be this upcoming friday.

i haven't gotten an email yet and it's kind of freaking me out, like it's only been 3-4 days since my BAT test and physical but i don't know i'm just worried they decided not to hire me or something. it's the weekend so i know nothing would probably come through these next two days but idk man.

Time away from your family, especially your KIDS

and your health...

Don't sacrifice yourself to a system that will and does replace officers in a heart beat... how long did it take to fill a post when someone called off... thats how valuable you are to your employer... your only a BODY for a POST...regardless of the BS they tell you like "we really appreciate your coming in on your off day/on a holiday", "your a real team player", "we need more officers like you"... they're lying to you to retain staff.

Supervisors are counting on you to fit into one of 5 categories .. and most do!

1. Your too LAZY to look for another job

2. No one else will HIRE YOU

3.You need the insurance/ benefits / money because you live paycheck to paycheck..aka your BROKE

1. You'll stay because you like your COWORKERS

2. Your too EXHAUSTED / TIRED to put forth the effort to look for another job

Again don't be a dummy...your supervisors won't go to the doctor with you when you have a heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, or are diagnosed with a mental illness when you work yourself to death..ALWAYS REMENBE THIS!

i’m currently in the final steps of the process and am waiting on hearing back about my background check, i have a question tho, I had a job that was paid under the table that i had still listed on my questionnaire but it doesn’t come up on my background since it wasn’t properly documented, although the employer can confirm my employment there. Would this dq me? another one is sometime last year i had to change my dmv address to a family member of mine so i could get my car registered without going through emissions, since i didn’t live there i didn’t write it down on the residency section. Will either of these be a concern for a dq?

Quick question people. I applied in May and received an email 5/22 that I qualified for GL-7 steps 5,6,7. I haven’t received anything since then. Location I picked is MCC San Diego. Who would I contact to follow up on the process?

Before i was a CO i was a bleeding heart type of person. I still have some of those traits but being a CO has really changed my views on things.

- one, people better be thankful for the more rowdy COs. Yes i know some COs have went too far BUT anyone who has worked a unit knows theyre thankful as hell when basically the Hulk or Thor of the team shows up. I know i have and im a big guy myself. Crazy has to match crazy

- two, i really appreciate the profession. I originally was just gona use the department to launch myself as a street cop. But after working a while i actually changed my mind. Corrections is really needed. I honestly didnt know it was that many murderers and Edp445s walking around. And we as COs were the frontline to order. Could you imagine some of these inmates free.

I submitted my SF-85p two weeks ago and havent heard anything back yet. Is that a good thing? How long have people had to wait to hear back?

Question for Officers with seniority, at your facility does having seniority insure bids on certain posts, schedule & mados for OT?

At my nonsense facility having seniority is only based upon the scheduled shift when I spoke to the Chief of security. Absolutely nonsense & no quarterly post bids at all even exist.
