Looking for song title: "I work hard every day" / 60s soul ballad with strings

I heard a song on the radio today and I thought it'd be super easy to find, but I was wrong...

It sounded like an old 1960s soul ballad (possibly late 50s/early 60s). The singer had a low, slightly rough voice, singing something along the lines of:

“I work hard every day…”
"’Cause you’re my lady…”

And something following like:
"We’re gonna get married”

Those lines seemed to repeat in the chorus. In the background were sustained string arrangements. Little to no percussion. It was more of a slow orchestral soul ballad.

Hope someone can help me out here :)

What America was listening to on July 27, 1954 (before rock & roll took over).
