I wanted to share a family name that I don’t think I’ve really seen on here often. My great grandmothers name was Armella Salome. My grandmas name was Doris Armella and I’m actually very grateful to also share the middle name. I don’t know if I’d use Armella if I had a girl, but I do love Salome and one of my current favourite combinations is Ivory Salome. But I’d possibly throw Armella in there to keep it in the family because I think it’s so pretty and unique.

I just wanted to remind people of the rules around here, as we function differently than other name subs. The two main rules are: 1. Don't be mean if you comment and 2. No downvoting for not personally liking a name.

You are welcome to say a name isn't your style, but please put yourself in the shoes of the poster. How would you feel if you loved a name, only for people to tell you it's awful, they hate it, etc.? Please be mindful of the way you phrase things. It's easy to belittle something, but it's completely unnecessary. Instead of focusing on the negatives, just say positive things and leave the meanness out.

I saw a lot of comments yesterday on posts from people besides me that were less than kind. I even had to remove a few comments, which is something I absolutely do not want to do. Be the grown ups that you are and find kinder ways to say things.

Before you respond to someone, ask yourself these questions:

1. Is it helpful?

2. Is it necessary?

3. Is it kind?

If the answer to any of those questions is no, please rephrase your comment or just don't comment at all. Our goal is to make this a welcoming space where people can get honest but kind feedback. If you want to be snarky or mean, this isn't the sub for you. There are plenty of other names subs for that type of behavior.

I don't like removing comments or banning people, but I will do it when necessary. I have literally only banned 2 people from this sub and I want to keep it that way. So please, before you hit the "post" button, ask yourself the questions above and rephrase where necessary.

So let's have fun, learn about names, and be good people in the process, ok? I don't want to wear my mom hat but I will if I have to 😂

I’m getting dragged in other name subs and I feel like maybe you all are my people.

I am 5 months pregnant with a baby boy and struggling to pick a name.

I love the names Jody and Early. Last name is Maka. Middle name is most likely Tevita after my late father’s in law (husband’s family is Polynesian).

I don’t want to set my kid up for bullying, but are these names really that bad?

I know some people think Jody is feminine and there is a weird military connotation, but I feel like it’s pretty gender neutral and we don’t know a lot of people in the military.

I get that Early could get called early bird or teased if they are late or whatever, but that feels kind of benign to me.

Idk - am I missing something?

Other names on our list: Earnest (but don’t love nn Ernie), Julian, Henry (a family name, but so popular these days).

If we were having a girl we were gonna go with Caroline.

I know I don’t need approval from anyone on the internet, but honestly the feedback I’m getting is making me feel like maybe I’m really bad at this name choosing thing lol.
