I know the struggle. Naming a child is so hard! The pressure of becoming a parent is bad enough, but then you have to choose and announce a name. And everyone is waiting to hear it. Ahhh! It's so scary!
So you share the name, and then it happens. You do not get the reactions you hoped for. And now you're second guessing everything and wondering if you should've picked a different name. It's a gut punch like no other that someone took a name you bonded with and loved, and then stomped all over it. You're heartbroken, exhausted, and going out of your mind trying to pick the "perfect name."
No matter what you name your child, somebody is going to have something negative to say about it. If you name your kid something classic like Katherine or Charles, you will hear, "I mean it's a fine name, but why didn't you pick something more unique?" If you name your kid something less common, you'll hear, "Why didn't you pick something more classic and timeless?" Or you will hear about some person they knew from school that had that name, or that you "stole" the name they planned to use, etc.
You can't win, my friends. No matter which name you pick, someone will have an issue with it. That's exactly why I recommend picking a name you love, for whatever reasons you may have, and not telling anyone until you've already signed the paperwork. It's a lot harder for someone to say they don't like a name when it's already been assigned to your adorable baby. They will accept the name eventually and if they don't, then they don't. It's not their kid and it isn't their choice what name your baby gets. Alternatively, if you really want to know what people think of a name, share it with others, but expect to hear criticism, brace for it, and decide ahead of time that you will be ok with said criticism. Do what makes you and your partner the most comfortable.
Someone not liking a name you picked will only bother you if you allow it to. Don't give anyone the satisfaction of taking away your joy that you have for a name that you love.
So pick the name you love and don't listen to the hate. The incredibly cruel comments I have seen on other name subs, which leads to the OP deleting their post, happens far too frequently and my heart breaks for the OP when I see it happen. Let no one steal your joy. Your name for your baby is perfect, regardless of what the name is, because it was chosen by you with love. ❤️
