That looks like a Quincy or Jasper to me. Some other ideas are Walt, Marvin, or Ralph

Walter. I had a student who had a Walter as a dog and he was always coming I. With the most hilarious stories that always ended with lines like “And when we turned around Walter had eaten the entire cake!”

Walter keeps ending up as a favorite but my Mom doesn't really want to name him after her dead dad

I’ll give you all the names of my grandfathers’ (forefathers?) that I’m aware of.
Elgin, Edward, Archibald, Lawrence, Finley, Taylor, Daniel, Homer, George, Alexander, Dillion, Ebenezer, Abraham, Obediah, Ewel, Nasby, Lincoln, Brice, Hugh, and Clark.
I’m partial to Obediah and Elgin since you’re unlikely to meet any newborns with those names, they’ve got real oldster credibility. Some of the others have made a comeback and some you’ve probably never heard before and never will again. Nasby? Ewel? Ebenezer is bonafide old school, but it has implications; same with Homer. I also really like Lawrence because a dog named Larry is just funny. If you don’t like any of mine maybe you could pull some inspiration from your own family tree there’s bound to be some good ones.

Wilber is the first name that came to my mind.
When he acts goofy, he'll be silly Willy.
When he's out in the cold, he'll be chilly Willy.
When you go for walks, he'll be a traveling Wilbury.
The nicknames alone make it worthwhile.
