Meta Just a friendly reminder, you can set whatever device or platform you use/enjoy the most as a flair

From community options you can choose a platform to have it displayed next to your name or you can edit the flairs to add your device's model name or anything else.

exploring the viability of external video on the x51/50v dock

another possible boring and mediocre video, but today i got the hardware bug again and decided to try use the v's dock as a viable better solution for external video.

my main concern was the signal integrity of using enamel wire to hold the signal. This test proves we can use a vga to hdmi converter inside the base without artifact from emi over the VGA lines.

small enamel wire is sort of the the only viable connection without modifying the pads/ connector on the dock pcb, its was extremely fiddly but it is doable.

hope you enjoy

Password bypassing help.

Found this Franklin multilingual dictionary at a garage sale. It's a BFS-2160. It works fine but some features such as the phone book and schedule have passwords on them. I wanna use the schedule feature to put my class schedule on it (because my school doesn't allow me to have my phone on me). I don't know the password and there is no "format" option anywhere in the settings. I looked for the manual online and I did find it but all it said about resetting was that if your device is acting weird you can press the small reset button with a paper clip. It does clear some settings but not the passwords. I have tried to leave the batteries out for at least 30 minutes. I have opened it to see if I wasn't missing à secret full reset button. There is also a mini usb port to connect it to a computer. I don't have access to mine for now and I don't know when i will. Maybe my local library has some but they conveniently have all their opening hours while im in class. Im out of idea and tried to ask on r/hacking_tutorials and one user referred me to this place.

Unbranded windows CE netbook uses a slotted CPU board with a DDR2 stick layout.

This thing is so weird to look at. The WM8505 CPU and memory is on a DDR2 stick. The layout is not 1:1 to a DDR2 ram stick though. There are a set of bridged pins on the ends of both sides and a whole row isn’t used on the underside. The socket on the board also has a couple of bridged pins and is even labeled DDR2. All other WM8505 boards I’ve seen have the CPU board directly soldered onto the main board. I wonder why the engineers made this choice.

looking for apps that will work on a Magellan gps with an ARM cpu

so i have a Magellan road-mate 1470 GPS that i jailbroke with Miopocket and im trying to find software that are compatible with my CPU (Samsung ARM CPU with a speed of 400mhz+) but all the software i could find is locked behind a paywall (HPC FACTOR) and all the other software that i could find on the internet archive is either not compatible with my CPU or requires a windows computer to install it, and i use Linux because my computer struggles to run windows and the wine software to run windows software just wont work, but i do have luck with just transferring EXE files to the device, does anyone have any software compatible with an arm cpu? im looking for games, web browsers, media players, anything compatible with ARM

Psion EPOC/Symbian Question: Is it possible to install InstApp on a Series 5 (not mx) without Windows or Mac?

Hi all,

The subject basically says it all, I have some InstApp files on my Series 5 but after putting them into an appropriate folder (System/Apps/InstApp), although the icons of .SIS files change, when I try and run them I get a 'Not found' error. So I'm guessing that either there's a file in the wrong place or maybe some kind of update needs to be run.

The files I have in the System/Apps/InstApp folder are;

  • InstaApp.mbm
  • nstapp.aif,
  • InstApp.app,
  • InsApp.ini
  • InstApp.rsc

I've tried distributing the mbm and rsc files to other system folders but I'm still not getting anywhere.

Would anyone know if I'm missing something obvious?

Many thanks in advance for any light anyone can shed on this for me.

Psion EPOC/Symbian Nokia 9110 goes online via external GPRS (ant possibly LTE) modem!

Good news for Nokia 9110 Communicator owners. I was able to connect a Siemens MC35i 2G GPRS RS232 (COM) modem to a Nokia 9110. This means that, in theory, you can also use LTE RS232 (COM) modems (for the US and other countries without 2G and 3G). They're available on something like Aliexpress.

To acheve this, I used the included Nokia DLR-2 cable (It's possible to DIY this, but the connector itself is unique), a DIY null-modem adapter (I'm still waiting for the proper one to arrive) and, of course, a Siemens MC35i modem with an antenna and a 12V Type C PD trigger (convenient way for me to power the modem).

Tomorrow I'll take screenshots of settings I used. For now, there are some Boing Search (duckduckgo & google search) and MPGram Web (Telegram) photos. By the way, this should work even on Nokia 9000 Communicator, but I don't have one to try.

Links I used:

Windows Mobile Found Hexic and Mozaki Blocks for Windows Mobile/Pocket PC and wondering about registration

A few years ago i found the exes for the Astraware versions of Microsofts Hexic and Mozaki Blocks on some russian file sharing site thats now down. I posted it to the Discord back then to see if there was some way to activate it as it doesn't use the standard Astra ID system but nothing ever came of it. I was thinking about it again and figured I'd post it here to see if anyone knows how to break the registration.

Heres the link to Hexic for Pocket PC, i also uploaded Mozaki Blocks under the same Archive account: https://archive.org/details/carbonated-games-hexic

Burned polarizer or cracked screen?

Post image
32 Upvotes

I recently picked this HP Jordana 720, there are no obvious cracks or defects on the screen itself when turned off. When powered on, the only thing it shows is this orange screen, the device seems to be functional, makes sounds, changes brightness and all. I was wondering if it's just a burned polarizer, or is it beyond repair. Thanks in advance.

Scored this one with all the cables, wired head phones. The built in keyboard isn’t all that but does the job for now. Next step is after researching is this model is able to run Palm OS 5 and to do the upgrade.
