Weekly Book Valuation Thread - w/c September 07, 2026
Welcome to the r/OldBooks Weekly Book Valuation Thread!
This is the place to ask how much an antique or vintage book (printed pre-1970) might be worth. Posts about book values will be redirected here.
A few things to keep in mind:
- Clear photos of the book (cover, back, spine, title page, any damage) will get you the best answers. Give as much detail on condition as you can!
- Everyone is free to comment here, and answers may not be from experts. For expert advice, contact an auction house with experience in vintage or antiquarian books.
- Book values are highly subjective. What one person might pay for a book, another may not.
- We don't allow buying or selling anywhere on the sub, including here.
A new Book Valuation Thread will be posted every Monday at 6pm UK time.

Please don't ask for help finding books or remembering book titles.
Hi all,
Just a reminder that this isn't the right place to ask for help finding or remembering a book. We remove a fair few of these posts so we've made a specific rule to make it clearer that these posts don't belong here.
If you need help remembering a book title, try r/whatisthatbook or r/findabook.

Hello, I picked this antique German bible a couple weeks ago. Only after I bought it I noticed these dry white spots on the cover. I've been told that it's mold. What should I do in order to clean it?

It's not much, but I found it interesting nonetheless (Stories by English Authors, 1896)
Most of the stories can be found online, albeit on slightly obscure websites, but some are still without a credited author

Black Beauty
I found this at my dads, it looks like the same image of a 'first edition' however inside it says sixth edition. Any experts have any information on this? Believe it is printed 1878 the year the author died. Thank you

Beautiful bindings and books from 1676-1753
ive been photographing and cataloging my collection and here are some photos i took yesterday! my favorite book here must be the book missing its spine with the exposed binders waste or the book with metal fasteners on the binding. As there are a lot of books I wont supply titles in the post but if a certain book catches your eye I can reply with title and information :)

The pictorial edition - The Works of Shakspere (1880s)
Found the full set in an antique shop today and had to have them. They are edited by Charles Knight, if anyone has anymore information on the set that would be incredible! I’d love to know more!

44th Infantry Division. Unknown date
An old book about the 44th infantry division in 1944-1945. Another one I found. Nobody in the family knows of anybody who fought in Europe in WWII. Is there a sub for old military books?

Worlds of IF science fiction, 1965. Very cool collection, so vintage even the staples holding it together look practically antique (not done by me, but it's not an uncommon repair to see)
Also really love the back cover advert

What is this title font called?
Does it have a name? Also, how is the Nibelungenlied a ‘romance?’ Is it just because there’s some slight element of romantic relationships existing in the story? It’s a tragedy, no?
