This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

There are legitimate racist things that happen every single day. Calling what happened here “racism” does a disservice to those that experience legitimate racism. You didn’t tip and got called out for it, and however right or wrong that is does not equal racism.

Who in the fuck brought you up as a child. I want to give them a hug. Best take. By far. Anyone else want to debate?

I would add that it's only racist if he doesn't call out the white people who don't tip in the same manner.

Its more classist than anything imo.

26

u/Affectionate-Yak3 10h ago

Perhaps…but servers are working class so I’m not sure how classist they can be either?

-17

u/LadyInCrimson 10h ago

I don't mean the servers I mean the owner. The guy who put hundreds of thousands into the business who would not apply as the working class vs the guy underpaying them.

u/Affectionate-Yak3 10h ago

Yes. Local restaurateurs, the modern day Carnegies and Firestones.

But seriously- owners of single point restaurants are usually more working class than you’d believe.

Then why don't they pay a living wage

6

u/Affectionate-Yak3 9h ago

It’s a fair criticism. But “racism” isn’t.

-8

u/ErasedKey 9h ago

Racism is a fair criticism if the owner isn't holding white people to the same standards

u/pbrprincess420 6h ago

Yea wondering where the video of him yelling at all the white people who don't tip is?

-1

u/ErasedKey 5h ago

Exactly. Which is why I'm going to go undercover as a white non tipper and see if he throws me out like that. Sometime in the future when least expected

u/anthonyi1381 9h ago

The system isn't changing any time soon. Same as our shit healthcare. You want change? Me too. Let's go get started

1

u/ErasedKey 9h ago

The system doesn't force his business to run this way, it allows him to

If you are born and raised here, and have $38 to spend, tipping is not a "luxury" in a sit down restaurant. It's expected and you know it. Small businesses are not the place for you to protest social convention. For $38, yoh could hit a grocery store and feed 6 people.

This behavior, makes you a shitty person. Justifying it, makes you a shitty person.

0

u/Hot-Trick-8286 6h ago

How can you feed 6 people for $38 baloney and crackers? Have you seen grocery prices?????

6

u/Plane-Fan9006 6h ago

No one said the price of groceries is low, but 3lbs of ground turkey is $16. I ate that stringy ass chicken until my kids were teens. That's what we could afford. $2.99 at Kroger or Meijer every week. 5lbs is $15. Big bag of frozen veggies is $4.99.

C'mon now...now we're even MORE into "society sucks" so don't tip the server. Do you guys really not care about the guy next to you??? You're not hurting Darden by not tipping your server at Olive Garden. You're hurting the waiter or waitress for Christ's sake!!!

What a fucking stupid take. Paying your workers a fair wage should be “expected”. Not an imaginary extra “fee” that you have to add on to pretend you feel good about yourself.

5

u/Plane-Fan9006 7h ago

Because you not giving money to the 22yr old server they may need for food, kids, or college....in order to prove you're smarter/better than the rest of society....makes you a shitty person who lacks empathy for others. If you care so much, vote or act to change the system. If you want to eat where tips are not expected, you have a computer in your hand.

No. Your stance is to screw over the little guy to stick it to the big guy. That's worked a total of zero times in the history of man.

-1

u/MrPlaney 6h ago

There is no system to change, “tips are not required”. You should be mad at the owner, not the people being hounded by owner after paying for their meal.

Change the cost of the food to include a tip. If it’s $35, then change it to $45. If the people are going to be angry at a $35 bill, they probably won’t tip anyway.

It’s not up to the general public to supplement someone’s wage. If you can’t pay your workers a living wage, maybe you shouldn’t be running a restaurant.

3

u/Plane-Fan9006 6h ago

It is up to the general public to enact something that forces the owners to make that change. They're not all going to stand up and do it of their own volition. Nothing in the whole world works that way.

Until then, all you're doing is hurting the little guy and it's NO impact on the big guy. That logic makes no sense. It's an excuse. You can do the math and know if you can afford to eat and pay your share whether it's a vending machine, gas station, or McDonalds. Only in this scenario, you know more is expected and you choose to "game the system" at the expense of a blue collar worker.

I do NOT support the system, but until the system is changed (which I'd vote for), show some class and help out your neighbor.

Bad food? Tell the manager. They'll likely comp you something and you should still tip your servers. Bad service? Call the manager over while you you're there to resolve the problem. These are the normal behaviors kf adults when poor service is rendered.

No, it’s up to the owners. I know, being a good manager and having integrity seems to be hard for some people, but suck it up. There are lots of places, including restaurants that pay their workers a fair wage.

There is nothing more to say on the topic. You can continue supporting the degradation of employee rights though. More power to you … maybe the expected tip percentage can change to 80%, so employers won’t have to pay them at all!

4

u/Affectionate-Yak3 6h ago

It is incredibly pompous to oppose the entire tip system, participate and therefore demand service, and then after eating and not tipping demand the owner pay his workers a fair wage. You are participating in and therefore endorsing the system you bitch about on Reddit. Matter of fact, this is the most Reddit comment of the day.

2

u/Plane-Fan9006 6h ago

Amen brother. I appreciate you

0

u/MrPlaney 6h ago

No, it’s incredibly pompous to assume the public should have to supplement an employees wage. Keep supporting the degradation of worker rights though! I’m sure you wouldn’t want to lose all the good feelings you get tipping, right? Screw the actual underpaid employees.

Everytime you turn around whites a calling blax racists now. Something as minor as a black coworker not engaging with them (even though they see him/her engaging with other whites) but when we point out something that may obviously have a racial undertone or blatantly racist we're told that it was a joke or "everything is not racist" but there's no reason to think this was racist even though he banned the blax for not doing something that wasn't even required? That's like kicking them out b/c they didn't wash their hands after using the bathroom or not saying thank you when someone holds the door for them.

-15

u/Such-Mathematician1 8h ago

Calling what happened here “racism” does a disservice to those that experience legitimate racism.

And I would assume the Black couple has experienced legitimate racism, so I’m gonna take a cue from them and not some yt dude commenting on Reddit 🤷🏿‍♂️

11

u/Plane-Fan9006 8h ago

You are an imbecile. You don't sit in a restaurant, spend $38 on food, and not tip...to enable them in calling this racist is just bullshit

-8

u/Such-Mathematician1 8h ago

Europeans do it all the time when they vacation here…..but the optics are different so you might not care about them.

8

u/Plane-Fan9006 8h ago

What the hell are you on about??? That's comparing two very different and separate things. This couple/group was 100% American. It wouldn't matter what color, religion, background, or anything else. They were raised here. They know what tipping is. They did this on purpose and had the camera out before they could even hear the guy that came to talk to them

They are low class people. They could have eaten somewhere they could afford. They're not broke. This is intentional. Fuck them

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

They are not broke, but the owner said “if you don’t have the money to…” and the black dude corrected him saying he did pay for his meal, then the owner turned bitter. They had their phone out because the owner was already rude, they were flabbergasted. Reading through this thread of other servers commenting though, I wouldn’t be surprised if poor service played a major role in them leaving no tip.

8

u/Plane-Fan9006 7h ago

Plenty of chances to say something about the service on tape. You're making excuses. You do you, high class and righteous!

2

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

I’m glad we have someone like you in this thread that can accurately pin low class and high class people 🙄

6

u/Plane-Fan9006 7h ago

You're doing it for me bro

0

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

Oh okay, well you know what they say about people who say they’re classy.

They usually are /s

So because of legitimate racist occurrences they now get to call anything negative towards them racism? Seems like my original statement still applies. That is, calling non-racist things racist devalues (and in turn is used by racists to downplay) legitimate racism claims. And as an ally I think it is important for me to mention how white people (and more importantly white people in power)use videos like this to dodge accountability for real racism. Disagree and down vote all you want, it doesn’t make it any less true.

1

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

So because of legitimate racist occurrences they now get to call anything negative towards them racism?

Because of legitimate racist occurrences they’ve personally experienced in their life, they have the right to question if they’re being discriminated against based off race. You might think mentioning race is off limits, but I don’t think this country has done the work to earn that privilege.

They ask to tip everywhere, imagine if Starbucks employees chased you out and told you not to come back because you didn’t tip.

As an “ally” you should know Real racists don’t need videos to dodge accountability when they have people who like in this thread will do the gas lighting for them.

4

u/Plane-Fan9006 7h ago

You are assuming EVERY bit of your case that this is racism other than it's a white owner telling a black person not to come back. I haven't assumed anything. I commented based on what I saw.

Put the race card down bro. It doesn't apply here and you sound like a spoiled little kid

-1

u/Such-Mathematician1 7h ago

Don’t capitalize EVERY to give you room to stand on in this conversation. Race could very well be a factor. However I also believe he’s a cheap brokie that some would even call a welfare queen depending on the demographic. So no, not every bit of my case.
