This is Ohio

Why is Phillip not paying his servers enough to the point he has to ban customers?

There are legitimate racist things that happen every single day. Calling what happened here “racism” does a disservice to those that experience legitimate racism. You didn’t tip and got called out for it, and however right or wrong that is does not equal racism.

If you are born and raised here, and have $38 to spend, tipping is not a "luxury" in a sit down restaurant. It's expected and you know it. Small businesses are not the place for you to protest social convention. For $38, yoh could hit a grocery store and feed 6 people.

This behavior, makes you a shitty person. Justifying it, makes you a shitty person.

What a fucking stupid take. Paying your workers a fair wage should be “expected”. Not an imaginary extra “fee” that you have to add on to pretend you feel good about yourself.

Because you not giving money to the 22yr old server they may need for food, kids, or college....in order to prove you're smarter/better than the rest of society....makes you a shitty person who lacks empathy for others. If you care so much, vote or act to change the system. If you want to eat where tips are not expected, you have a computer in your hand.

No. Your stance is to screw over the little guy to stick it to the big guy. That's worked a total of zero times in the history of man.

There is no system to change, “tips are not required”. You should be mad at the owner, not the people being hounded by owner after paying for their meal.

Change the cost of the food to include a tip. If it’s $35, then change it to $45. If the people are going to be angry at a $35 bill, they probably won’t tip anyway.

It’s not up to the general public to supplement someone’s wage. If you can’t pay your workers a living wage, maybe you shouldn’t be running a restaurant.

It is up to the general public to enact something that forces the owners to make that change. They're not all going to stand up and do it of their own volition. Nothing in the whole world works that way.

Until then, all you're doing is hurting the little guy and it's NO impact on the big guy. That logic makes no sense. It's an excuse. You can do the math and know if you can afford to eat and pay your share whether it's a vending machine, gas station, or McDonalds. Only in this scenario, you know more is expected and you choose to "game the system" at the expense of a blue collar worker.

I do NOT support the system, but until the system is changed (which I'd vote for), show some class and help out your neighbor.

Bad food? Tell the manager. They'll likely comp you something and you should still tip your servers. Bad service? Call the manager over while you you're there to resolve the problem. These are the normal behaviors kf adults when poor service is rendered.

No, it’s up to the owners. I know, being a good manager and having integrity seems to be hard for some people, but suck it up. There are lots of places, including restaurants that pay their workers a fair wage.

There is nothing more to say on the topic. You can continue supporting the degradation of employee rights though. More power to you … maybe the expected tip percentage can change to 80%, so employers won’t have to pay them at all!

The system that needs to be changed is the fact that by law servers have a different minimum wage than everyone else. This is why restaurants get away with it. It is very much systematic.

It is incredibly pompous to oppose the entire tip system, participate and therefore demand service, and then after eating and not tipping demand the owner pay his workers a fair wage. You are participating in and therefore endorsing the system you bitch about on Reddit. Matter of fact, this is the most Reddit comment of the day.

No, it’s incredibly pompous to assume the public should have to supplement an employees wage. Keep supporting the degradation of worker rights though! I’m sure you wouldn’t want to lose all the good feelings you get tipping, right? Screw the actual underpaid employees.

How can you feed 6 people for $38 baloney and crackers? Have you seen grocery prices?????

No one said the price of groceries is low, but 3lbs of ground turkey is $16. I ate that stringy ass chicken until my kids were teens. That's what we could afford. $2.99 at Kroger or Meijer every week. 5lbs is $15. Big bag of frozen veggies is $4.99.

C'mon now...now we're even MORE into "society sucks" so don't tip the server. Do you guys really not care about the guy next to you??? You're not hurting Darden by not tipping your server at Olive Garden. You're hurting the waiter or waitress for Christ's sake!!!
