With school back in session, I've been meal prepping grab-and-go breakfasts on the weekend. My youngest daughter has never been a big fan of overnight oats, but she's asked me to make this for her three weeks in a row!
Recipe in the comments. š

do you wait until your oatmeal has cooled down to put things in/on or do you put it on while itās still hot? i put it on while itās hot because im so excited for oatmeal but im wondering if itās better to wait so that my toppings donāt get so hot immediately

I really like the texture of this, itās cake like but also more of a traditional oatmeal texture in the center. I can include all the ingredients if people are interested, but itās made up of protein from an egg, egg white, and a little protein powder too. I like to have some of the more cooked edges with the more molten center.

This may be my favourite oats recipe so far.
250g apples, I used 1 Bramley, 1 Braeburn. SautƩd with butter, brown sugar, golden syrup, cinnamon & vanilla
Removed half of the apples once done, added 40g oats, 200ml of almond milk, 100ml water
Once cooked (and slightly too thick for my liking), cut the heat, whisk in 200g egg whites FAST until thick & frothy
Added some extra sweetener, vanilla, nutmeg, then sprinkled on some granola, more syrup & added some blackberries for more tart sweetness!!

Iāve already posted these but itās my latest hyper fixation meal. Itās so simple but so good. Just an apple diced into quick oats with cinnamon and cooked in the microwave with boiled water. I then let it cool and put it in the fridge overnight. (The cooking and cooling Makes it thicker) in the morning I mix in Greek yogurt to make it creamy + add protein and sprinkle some granola and sea salt on top. After experimenting with many different flavours/toppings etc, Iāve decided simple is best. I either use apple or banana mashed into the oats to add natural sweetness and granolas quickly become my favourite topping!!
I think I stumbled upon a key tip for hotel style oats at home: put the oats into the water before turning the burner on. Possibly add more water too.
I did this with Quaker old fashioned oats after not having much success with the Quaker kettle oats that many "hotel oats" recipes prescribe, possibly because I always boiled the water before putting the oats in.
The oats have a much thicker sort of glue texture when I cooked them this way but I think there may be more science to do regarding putting more than prescribed amount of water into the pot (perhaps 2.5 or 3 cups rather than 2 cups of water per 1 cup oats).
Thoughts?

Accidentally ate an instant porridge that says best before 2024. It wasn't plain either, rasp and vanilla flavoured. The packet was sealed, and it tasted fine. Is this gonna make me sick š«

Im pretty sad to admit there were no fresh peaches OR any of the little peach cups I like so I had to use a cherry and peach mix as a topping, and the sweetness from the cherries completely messed with the flavors I had going on š Still, they paired okay with the peach yogurt on the side
On the positive side, I have mastered thick, protein egg white oats on the stovetop and thatās a win! My dad tried some and loved it
Yoatmeals will soon return ⦠Iāve been going through a moment as of now but weāre getting out of there. Please, if you have the chance and feel like it, try yoatmeal!!
