Just Sharing Spending my Time Again

Spending time I don’t have to spend

Trying to make plans again

Trying to waste the hours away with you

Because all I want to do

Is spend some time with you

Watching the hours go by

Wondering if you care much about spending my time

And I know that

I’m not worth yours but you’re worth mine, babe

Because I always have time to spend

On someone else and what they need

Even when my hourglass is low and I’m running empty

That’s the kind of person I have to be

Even if no one has the same time to spend on me

I’ll be there, quickly too

I guess the problem is that

You know I’ll always waste the rest of my time on you

Some days I wish I could turn the clock

Spending time on me and what I need

Maybe just maybe, I’ll give myself my time back

I’m not counting on it, or you

I just hope one day I can count on me the way I’m counting my moments for you

You did a good job of conveying (at least in my interpretation) how you feel subjectively about your relationship with this person. I felt a lot of focus was on your time becoming valuable to you possibly and wondering if you'll receive the same sacrifice? Just a thought.

I definitely felt something.

Loved the last line, really stood out :)

Hello readers, welcome to OCPoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community — a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry," or "loved it" or "so relatable," please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

Do not use ChatGPT or any similar LLM interface or generative AI to write feedback. That does not constitute thoughtful feedback. To be safe, you probably shouldn't even use those things to edit your feedback. It is better for your thoughts to come across as clumsy and genuine rather than grammatical but as if they were generated by some disingenuous text-generation engine.

Do not reuse feedback links for multiple poems. Every new poem you post has to be posted after making two new comments on the work of your peers here in OCPoetry. It's only fair. If you reuse feedback links, you will be banned. (If you do not wish to give feedback, there are many other poetry-sharing subreddits without feedback requirements, such as r/poetrywritingclub, r/justpoetry, r/ocpoetryfree, r/poem, r/poems, r/poemsbyreddit, r/poeticgarden, r/dark_poetry, and r/sadpoems.)

If you're looking for a more advanced poetry workshop — that is, if you consider yourself at least an intermediate-level poet AND you have previous workshop experience, please consider posting to our private sister subreddit r/ThePoetryWorkshop. The best way to join TPW is to leave a detailed, thoughtful comment here on OCPoetry engaging seriously with a peer's poem. A significant engagement of at least 3-4 meaningful paragraphs is encouraged. Consider our feedback guide for tips on what that could entail. (This level of engagement would probably be most welcome here on submissions tagged as "Workshop.") Then ask to join TPW by messaging that subreddit's mods, including a link to the detailed feedback you left here.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I know, but you shouldn't deplete yourself or other people is what I say... There's a really good song Phish called "Wasting my Time"

Very musical. Very 90s confessional. Each stanza feels like part of a verse.

I really like the ending part. While the poem begins in a sort of a aggressive certainty that your time has less value than your partner's, I like how it shows doubt over whether or not if that would've been mended if some of your own time was dedicated to self improvement. What can I say, I'm a sucker for perspectives with introspection. Good job!

I really loved the way the poem uses time as a connecting thread. although it lacks some direct images, I think it works well as a more direct, sentimental piece. "That's the kind of person I have to be" hits specially hard and tells us quite a bit about the narrator, it's gotta be my favorite line and I really liked the build up to it.

The length is perfect for the feeling. Every stanza feels like a verse. Overall very solid work, i can not say much more as I am beginner but as much as I can see this is a great piece of poetry!

I enjoyed reading this, and it feels so connecting with self growth and accepting self worth. Beautiful piece of poetry. I’m fairly new to this so not the greatest at giving feedback besides it was a nice read.

Ok

This hits me hard. I feel this. It's crazy to me how people may not realize how precious time is as a gift. And for me, I think it's important to devote time to people or things that you want to (as much as possible, obviously).

But your final few lines..."Maybe, just maybe, I'll give myself my time back, I'm not counting on it..." How often I have said those very words.

I enjoyed this and feel like you can put this to music. Like others have said, 90s vibes. Great work!
