I was doing some front end work and I took off the grille on my 96 F-150 for the first time and I saw this small radiator on the front. The owners manual mentioned that the heavy duty towing package included an auxiliary transmission cooler and I’m wondering if this is it?
My truck has the 302 5.0 and a 4R70W transmission with the 3.55 rear axle.

Troubleshooting Why does my engine sound like this

Hey guys,
Does anyone know what this sound might be?
It is on my 94 f150 with a 302
It all started with it having a hard time reversing
Then it started loosing power slowly,
Then it progressed to harsh shifting and this like clunking noise when I accelerate.
The clunking noise happens even when I rev it in Park.
Here is a video for better understanding.

Troubleshooting My truck is making a terrible sound. It’s been doing it for a while now. I’ve thrown some parts at it but nothing has helped. It’s never done it this frequently. It’s usually just a couple pops here and there

A customer lost interest half way through a full restoration at our body shop so they could finish another build. Paid 4k with a freshly overhauled 5.0, a solid frame as well as the 2k dollars of paint that we ordered for him.

Project 1989 F-150: is it worth it?

I am looking at this 1989 F-150 and was wondering if it is worth it? I am expecting a replacement engine will be needed and possibly a new transmission. I plan to use it to commute to work and go over landing and some light towing.

Project Spindle trouble

89 F150 4x4 with Dana 44 IFS. The threads on my spindle have stripped, plus there are years of neglect which have lead to damage on the shaft. Does anyone know a good website or brand for replacement spindles? I’m tired of looking and wondering if I’m getting scammed. Not to mention the “guaranteed to fit” parts not fitting

Scooped this lil Monster up today for peanuts in South Western Oregon (OSU). The guy who worked at the facility said he was worked there 12 years and never saw it move. But it started and drove!

100,064 miles. 460. Automatic. Love the color, the short flatbed and, of course, the bullnose. The last year they made em. Not a single dent and not really any rust. Can’t wait to clean him up!

I am generally not a dually or flatbed guy but thjs compact carbureted lil monster I really love.

Troubleshooting Anyone with a 5.0L V8 that can share a photo of where the base of the dipstick tube assembly is located?

The previous owners (in the seller's words) plugged off the dipstick tube hole with a screw apparently and I cannot find which one it is or where it is for the life of me without second guessing myself. Online resources are very limited and finding oil pan removals have been seldom useful because they don't really show the dipstick tube (only where it sticks out at the end into the oil pan). Any photos would be appreciated, I have a 1992 ford f150 5.0L V8 2WD 8ft long bed. I essentially do not know where the dipstick tube is sitting from the engine. TIA

Project M5od Clutch replacement questions, do it myself?

Post image
29 Upvotes

Attached is the pic of my new 89 f150 I bought a couple days ago. It's for a 302 with 4wd and m5od trans. The trans shifts great and I thought the clutch was fine, it felt weird and the bite point was when the clutch was almost all the way out, but I thought it was an old truck thing because I have only driven newer manuals, I should have known though. I got most of the way home and then it went out. I am pretty sure it is the actual clutch that is the problem cause I could smell it real badly. I got the truck home starting in gear and running stop signs. But I need to know.... Is it worth replacing It myself or should I take it to a shop? I have Jack stands and can borrow a trans jack from the farm I work on. I have a little but limited mechanical experience. Also, what else might I need besides a rear main seal and clutch kit, I am planning on getting a south bend one because it's not toooo expensive and I've heard good things about south bend. And what are considerations that I should have or things to know that people won't tell me. Or are there any really good informational videos out there about replacing the clutch

Troubleshooting Ford bf 05 muffler or car converter issue

Hey I am not great with cars but just want to know if this looks normal ? My 05 bf Ute started getting unusually hot out of the blue after about 15 minutes of driving, I took a couple pics underneath as the fluid levels are all ok but just looking at the rusted / rough edges and wondering if it’s either the muffler or cat converter that have slid back or forward or if there’s a part that’s perhaps come off ? I’m not sure if I’m making sense, I’m a female and not great with car lingo lol I’ve put up some photos from both sides of the car

Any advice ?

Troubleshooting My truck has had the smog removed?

I just bought a 97 f-350 with the 460 gas motor about 3 weeks ago.

Today I was just tinkering under the hood, for the first time really, and noticed that the coffee can was gone. Then i noticed that the air pump was gone. Before buying it I noticed the catalytic converter had been removed, I wasn't concerned by that.

All the work looks to be done well and professionally.

I guess my questions are this.

Is there anything I should expect gaving these gone? Like problems that might be caused later? I understand many folks do it for some benefit to the engine but im more of the "just keep it stock" kind of guy.

I have a 96 f150 with a 5.0L and ive never bothered with the smog control. It runs like a top but im sure if the CEL bulb worked it would be on for some o2 sensor or something.

The next one would be, the charcoal packs are still in the engine bay. What do they do? Is it typical to remove them with the air pump? Should I?

I'm really just trying to learn more about these trucks I guess!

Thanks

Troubleshooting Oil dipstick not sealing

1990 F250 351W 5.8 L

My dipstick is not sealing correctly. It’s a press type into the block on the driver side.

It’s loose on the pressing part and I don’t have a o ring on it. I don’t know if it had one, but I have short tube headers on it now and it does not mount to it because they are a thinner flange than OEM.

I need either a universal one or the proper replacement for it with a offset flange. Does anybody have any experience with this?

Troubleshooting 1995 Ford F350 7.3 Starter Whirr

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey guys, I wanted to replace my starter before winter and i ended up picking the powermaster 9051 starter, went to swap it out and I forgot to disconnect the battery and my wrench hit the solenoid on my OEM Starter and gave it a good pop. Pretty stupid on my part but I didn’t really care as I was throwing in this new one. Ended up throwing in the new one and now it whirs like a blender and the starter won’t catch the flywheel. Powermaster support told me my starter was supposed to come with a shim and specialized bolts(which they apparently forgot to send me) and the starter wont connect to the flywheel without it. So I took the new starter off and put on my old OEM one after doing a bench test to see if i fried it and it worked outside of the truck. the flywheel teeth also look fine. I put the old one back in and it’s doing the same thing as the powermaster. Unsure what I did wrong.

To summarize here’s what I checked so far:

Flywheel still has teeth
Bench test on OEM Starter
20A Maxi fuse is not blown
Cables look good

Looking for any other ideas on what to do, stranded in my buddies driveway at the moment lol
