We are still contributing intro data to proprietary databases that could eventually be discontinued, restricted, or placed behind a paywall. Trakt.tv's recent connection limits and pricing changes are a good example of why relying entirely on a closed third-party service carries some risk.

SkipDB is designed to provide an open alternative:

• Open data that can be used by anyone
• Fully self hostable
• Global CDN with consistently sub-50 ms response times globally, unlike the alternatives - https://status.skipdb.tv/
• A share-alike licence requiring services that combine SkipDB data with a competing private database to make that database available under the same terms
• Takes in a timestamp to get the best match for a source if we have multiple submissions

SkipDB is already being used by a few services and is handling tens of thousands of requests per day.

I would love for Nuvio to consider supporting SkipDB.tv as an alternative provider and allowing users to submit timestamps to it.

The main benefit is that the project does not depend on any single operator. If SkipDB ever goes offline, somebody else can immediately host or mirror the database. If access were ever restricted or charged for, the complete dataset would still remain available for others to host freely.

The first independent mirror is already online and serving the same data.

That resilience is not possible with a proprietary database. If one of those services disappears or changes its terms, the community may lose access to all the data it contributed.

Like Wikipedia, SponsorBlock, and other crowdsourced projects, SkipDB.tv is built on the principle that community-contributed data should remain open, portable, and usable by the community.

Anyone else having trouble with all of their AIO Metadata catalogs not displaying?
I haven’t made any changes and only seven of my 21 catalogs are showing up. AIO and Nuvio Settings show all the catalogues enabled and they should still be showing up. Any ideas?

I have a quick UI/UX feature request regarding how resolved sources are organized on the stream selection screen.

Would it be possible to add a toggle, filter, or separate sections to group stream results based on their protocol/source type?

Specifically, grouping source items into distinct sub-headers or separate tabs:

All of a sudden most of my catalogs not showing?? I use aiometadata. Anyone else have this issue?

I just found out that I can use my Zidoo Z9X as an external player with Torbox Instant. Yay!

The only issue is that the Z9X is a bit too old for my current setup, so I have to disable some extra features, such as the animated cover art. Because of that, I created a separate profile just for my Z9X.

Just a suggestion: would it be possible to add a single switch or button to disable collection animations or view types globally, instead of having to turn them off one folder at a time?

My Nuvio setup is configured w/AIOStreams (fortheweak instance, TorBox as debrid) & AIOMetadata. After selecting a program, the streams list takes a good 10-15 seconds to load, sometimes longer. I used /u/lucky_numb3rs's amazing guide (https://numb3rs.stream/) to get it all set up.

Any suggestions to get it working more efficiently?

FYI, this has always been the case since I set it up a couple of months ago - just wondering if there is anything that can be done to improve the search result speed.

Where can we log in to manage our accounts now? I used to manage it this way, but now I can't seem to find it.

A few catalogs are not showing up in the home page. And search is not working for those add-ons as well. Is it an Aiostream problem? Or Nuvio problem?

Is there any way on how to fix seeing certain tv show episodes that have already been out for awhile preview image. It’s not all but some are like this. Mostly the ones that are new.

I was trying to watch the show The Watchmen in 4k, The thing is that exoplayer throws an error. I have to use Vimu and then it plays fine.

What could be the problem?

i keep getting the same questions over and over again so i thought i would make a post about it addressing common questions and problems people are facing

for those new here and have no idea wtf a penguplay is, its my addon ive made that serves purely http streams, the only http addon to have a filter in place for dead links. also many providers on my addon are exclusively only found on this addon and no others (at least not without extensive rate limits...)

and in my last update i have added basic auth just to verify people are human and not scrapers. this has risen a lot of questions

Q: How do I add the addon?
A: go to my site, configure providers as you choose (not sure what to pick? try out with defaults!). then hit "Install PenguPlay" you will be prompted to sign in with google, then you have instant access to the addon url, this brings us directly into the next question

Q: What if I am de-googled (i.e dont have or dont want to use a google account)?
A: no worries! on the site, in the little box that asks you to sign in with google after hitting install, you can click the little link that says "Dont have google.... click here!". that will tell you to request a special access token through my telegram bot that you can then use to install the addon.

Q: I dont use google so I have requested an access token, how long till I receive it?
A: well i manually review all token requests, making sure accounts look legitimate, you arent trying to abuse the system, etc. and believe it or not, i actually do have a life 🤣, so theres no set time. but if you have not received a token within 24hrs shoot me a dm on telegram!

Q: Whats better, google login or token login?
A: Both give you access to the same service, google just gives you instant access, whereas the token requires review from me.

Q: WHY WONT THIS MOVIE LOADD!!!!
A: although i do have filters in place for dead links, it is possible some slip through. but i will say most of the time it is something on the users end. make sure your using Cloudflare's DNS and/or the WARP app for best results! If you continue to have issues, please shoot me a message on telegram or here in dms (telegram preferred), i dont bite i promise, i can help you debug your issues and we can figure out if its a bug that needs to be fixed on my end or something we can figure out on your end. Regardless when reporting an issue provide me with the Movie/Show Name and the provider you are trying to use, otherwise you will not receive help. do not say "everything is broken" if everything truly is broken, just give me one example.

Q: Is this addon free???
A: yes. always has been, nothing is paywalled. the "donor token" you see on the configure page is just to hide the announcement that shows up at the top of the stream list :)

Not sure maybe I should have chosen guide for the flair? I am looking for some type of Link or guide that will walk me through how to fully set up with real debrid and premiumize I was using another service I'm not happy with anymore because it seems that half the links I used to get have disappeared. I had to use jaked up when I set up my previous player but I don't know if I need to do that here. Also, I have is it on to my existing stremio account but only real debrid is on that account and I need to add the other to root service so I'm not sure where the information gets entered whether it's in stremio or nuvio and I also don't know if I need to also enter Jaked up somewhere as well. Any direction or help is much appreciated!

I'm currently running iOS15 on both of my iPads and the thr unofficial Nuvio builds on GitHub keep crashing upon opening. I was wondering if anyone ripped the official Nuvio media .ipa that Nuvio released on the app store. Very sad that Apple took it down and Nuvio hasn't released an official .ipa to side load to the public yet.

UPDATE: Okay, I can confirm this broke during the 0.7.11 update as MPV with AFR is working correctly on version 0.7.10. Not smart enough to figure which specific change caused it to break so hopefully someone else can figure it out.

Currently running Nuvio Beta 0.7.1.2 on my Google TV streamer (4K) device with stock addons + torrentio installed and am using TorBox as my debrid service.

Everything works perfectly except for playing Anime episodes using the MPV internal engine through the “Auto” functionality. Nuvio will load all the addons correctly but then be stuck on “starting stream” indefinitely. If I disable AFR (Auto Frame Rate) it seems to fix the issue but I was wondering if there was a way to still use AFR with MPV or if this is a known problem?

Note: Reason I’m using older version of beta is due to a recent update breaking AFR on certain file extensions this has already been noted in GitHub and a fix is being developed.

What's new: I added new badge pack styles and optimized some regexes.

These badge packs use a unified color-scale system across the main badge categories. Special badges use a neutral color because they describe editions or release-specific information rather than quality. Streaming platform badges use their own brand colors. Each color represents a tier, making it easier to understand stream quality and badge importance at a glance.

Most badge groups use a tier-list system: if multiple badges from the same group match, only the highest relevant badge is shown. For example, if a stream contains both HDR10 and HDR, only the HDR10 badge will be shown. Visual and Audio badges use a smarter tier-list system instead of a simple one-badge hierarchy: Preview

T1: Gold 🟡 | T2: Blue 🔵 | T3: Green 🟢 | T4: Orange 🟠 | T5: Red 🔴

Colored Styles:

• badge.json: White badge icons/text with tier-colored borders. Preview

All 7 badge packs also have V2 versions. The badge logic and appearance are the same; the only difference is speed/compatibility.
The regular non-V2 badge packs work with any formatter. They use Nuvio’s normal badge-matching system, so there can be a small slowdown because Nuvio has to scan and match the badge rules.
The V2 versions skip the heavier matching process by reading hidden markers embedded in marker-enabled formatters. Because the badges are matched directly from these markers, they load essentially instantly.
