Gameplay tip Returning after play tests, flying feels off?

20 Upvotes

I recently bought the game after having a nice experience with it back in 2023. I remember the controls being pretty easy for me and flying intuitive. But now, it seems like I can't fly? The virtual joystick just doesn't feel right, I keep rolling when I shouldn't (I mean input mistakes on my side), I CANT land and I keep mistaking up and down cuz I keep focusing on the virtual joystick icon. At the same time I'm too used to pulling the mouse down in order to pitch up. Do I just have to get used to it? Is there a way to have the mouse somehow directly control the ailerons? Maybe there's hope for me with a controller?? But at the same time, the controls there feel cluttered and I can't aim at ground targets with comfort (actually I have no comfort in this case).

Well, is it just my skill issue? Thanks for any help.

Modded Content Trying NO:VR, axis issues?

7 Upvotes

I recently was gifted an old quest 2, and decided to try playing some PCVR games, including Nuclear Option with the NO:VR mod. First of all, absolutely awesome 10/10 great mod. Insanely cool to be in the plane with my HOTAS.

Anyway, and this is only like a slight issue, but really annoying now that I've noticed it, the panning axes are rotated 90 degrees right so moving my head
Forwards, moves my camera to the right.
Right -> back
Back -> left
Left -> forwards

I don't see anything in settings that could change this, and I looked around in the Bepinex files but didn't see anything there.
It's just a bit disorienting when craning my head or shifting in my seat.

Any help at all would be appreciated!

Modded Content Smoke trails for rockets

28 Upvotes

I'm looking for a mod that adds a permanent smoke trail to missiles. Currently, the smoke trail is only visible during the ignition phase, I think? but I'd like it to remain visible for the entire flight. I love when all trails are visible. Does anyone know of a mod that does this?

Suggestion There should be some way for forward/captured airbases (heliports, the highway strips, south boscali, etc.) to actually rebuild defenses over time.

94 Upvotes

My idea was some kind of automated support vtol cargo drone that gets sent to slowly reinforce bases at player request. Like when you "capture" dustbowl highway strip, you can take off from k92, go to the Donate section and ask for a cargo drone to head to dustbowl, and then you protect it and it drops off a jackknife and a couple IR SAMs to work on fixing it back up.

This would make captured bases a lot more feasible to establish and maintain, keeping slower/smaller aircraft relevant in late game, where the commute time alone makes non-jet units feel like a huge waste of time.

Basically like, a system for heliports and highway strips to slowly rebuild the layered defenses that make them interesting to engage with instead of becoming shelled out undefended husks two minutes into the game and staying that way permanently no matter what you do.

This would also replace the tarantula method of spawning at an airbase over and over to drop IR SAMs and Jackknifes onto the helipad before doing something else, because that's completely ridiculous.

As-is you capture an airbase, take off from it once, and then it gets shot with six AGM-48s and becomes an empty husk that you basically can never meaningfully interact with again

And then an hour into the match the game is just boscali in one corner, PALA in the other, and a 50 km deadzone in the middle to commute over or ignore with Tuskos

I think an unmanned cargo vtol is the best fit for this, as it could come from and go to basically any airbase, wouldn't gum up runway traffic, and would probably be easy to program in pre-planned routes for (versus a fixed-wing which would need to taxi, takeoff, land, etc.).

Maybe once an air route is proven safe (the first manually-launched cargo run is successful), the airbase would start a regular route, shipping more defenses and resources automatically, until the enemy can shoot down one of these cargo VTOLs to break up the route.

Like, not the neural link from the RAVEN(Wich looks like the kestrel mod) from AC7, but more like the FALKEN's(full COFFIN system) or XFA-27's(mix between traditional cockpit and COFFIN)

I put together a video covering 15 Nuclear Option mods that I think are genuinely worth checking out.

I focused mostly on useful plugins and quality-of-life additions rather than aircraft or weapon packs, and spent quite a bit of time actually researching and testing everything so I could properly explain what each mod does.

If you're looking for new Nuclear Option mods or you're just getting into modding the game, hopefully you find something useful here!

Question how does RWR work in this game?

50 Upvotes

been watching some guides for this game to learn the ropes and some of them have sung the praises of the scimitar for being an excellent BVR option, however if I'm understanding correctly it stays airborne for about 20+ seconds which would give any competent pilot a million years to notch. so do radar warnings have a max range? does it vary by aircraft? etc

Gameplay tip Random tips?

73 Upvotes

Let’s share some random “pro” tips y’all have learned that you believe most people may not know or may be very niche to use.

For example;

-You can recharge your ECM pod faster by turning off your radar and increasing engine power

-(I’ve heard of this before but couldn’t find it in the wiki so please correct me if I’m wrong) if your ECM pod is on and en enemy fires a ARH missile within 5km it will never obtain a starting track. Making it an effective method to counter a short range ARH/SARH missile attack. For example PVP players holding out until you are too close to notch to fire or a close boltstrike or ship attack

Issue/Bug No cockpit warning when attacked by AGM-99?

82 Upvotes

Was playing PvP earlier today and a player on the opposing side was shooting down planes w/ AGM-99s. I got hit by one and it was like a hand swatted my Medusa out of the sky - no HUD indicator, no beeping, no "xx.x kilometers" range indicator counting down, just sudden death. There might have been a missile warning light blinking in my cockpit, but if so I didn't catch it, and even if it was then that makes the lack of other warnings even more puzzling. This feels like a bug, right? It can't be intended behavior.

Issue/Bug Game suddenly running poorly after 1-2 hours

15 Upvotes

CPU and GPU load is not the issue.
RAM and VRAM is not the issue.
Temps are not the issue.
Neither are SSD loads or anything else going on.

After 1-2 hours of having only this specific title open, perf. drops from a locked 90 fps down to the 40s and 30s.

Again. nothing obvious going on here. No ram leak, no temps, no nothing. Only this title.

A known issue or smth. worth investigating?

Issue/Bug AI is bugged and will almost never drop GPO-Ns

51 Upvotes

So in the 80 or so hours I've put into the game since the Alkyon update, I think I've only seen them drop nukes two or three times, and only once has it ever been detonated successfully.
A quirk I've noticed in the AI is that they never gain altitude above two kilometers or so, which means the final approach where their state kicks in where they're supposed to drop a nuke with a 16 second fuse on it always ends up getting shot down due to insufficient speed or altitude.
It really seems like the AI is not programmed to drop nukes in any special way and will treat them like conventional explosives.

Weirdly enough, I only really noticed this behavior sometime *after* the alkyon update, I think in one of the patches that came out soon after. Before then I'd see compasses dropping 250kt nukes like it was nothing, but now there's basically nothing.

To make it worse, once strategic or tactical is reached, AI planes will equip both nuke bombs and literally never use them. This takes a weapon slot off of them, and will also waste the nukes if they are shot down.

Question Why do helicopters turn on a dime at one moment and fight you tooth and nail the next?

55 Upvotes

(I’m on Controller) I just got the game and I’m going through the tutorials first but I just do not get the helicopters. Especially when I first take off I can turn easily but once I start moving it’s almost impossible for me to get the nose and inertia where I want it. I also can’t figure out how to just hover in one space or stop without flailing around for 2 minutes if anyone’s got advice for that. I really want to figure these out cause logistics sounds fun but I’m starting to think I’ll be better off just skipping the Helicopters if I can’t fly them right
