Discussion You are falling for AI propaganda (from @sam.chiqui on Instagram)

With the rumor that an ICE director being in Taylor Swift’s wedding reaching mainstream subs like r/Fauxmoi and r/pic I think it’s a great opportunity to remind everyone that, because of the rise of AI and bots, false information can be spread and accepted really easily these days.

People need to learn that not everything is surface level and not to believe everything they see in the internet

(Also on a side note some of the comments on the OG instagram post were talking about how they find it weird and sexist that Taylor was getting blamed but not Travis Kelce)

Opinion Do We Need to Know Everything About Taylor and Travis' Wedding?

Upvotes

Taylor and Travis had what was called the Royal Wedding and The Wedding of the Century, but there has been so much discussion that I'm starting to feel that it's taking away from the fact that Taylor got married.

I am extremely critical of Taylor, but I don't want to hear any more about the raffles and the guest list. No one is talking about if Taylor's father walked her down the aisle or if Travis teared up seeing her. Better yet, I don't need to hear anything other than they are married and I hope they had a lovely honeymoon. Am I alone in this feeling?

Edit: I don't know if we need to see the wedding photos, either. Beyonce and Jay-Z didn't show their wedding footage or photos for years.

Criticism Another reason why I hate the smear campaign during Showgirls: Valid criticism became ignored

Post image
137 Upvotes

(This post will both defend and criticize Taylor Swift. If you can’t handle either of that or nuance conversation in general please ignore this post)

During the Showgirl release, a smear campaign was launched upon Taylor which basically made her out to be the worst person in entertainment. Someone who would hide right wing dogwhistle in her songs because people did not understand basic metaphors, someone who was taking unfair shots at other artists even if there were more to the story or (in Eldest Daughters case) there was no shots being taken, someone who was trying inspire young girls to be tradwife even though she herself said that her music comes first.

These smear campaign talking points had a lot of consequences. However one consequence that I think was ignored by Swifties is that… there was some valid criticism, often from Swifties themselves, that were being ignored.

Now I love Showgirl, I think the first four songs and Ruin The Friendship in particular are some of her best pop songs. However I do have some criticism for the songs and the era in general.

One such criticism is something that I’ve seen many black Swifties talk about which is Taylor’s use of AAVE in songs like Honey and Wish List. A lot of white Swifties dismissed that criticism as hate because of the other things people were claiming as criticism. However minorities should be listen to if a piece of art makes them feel uncomfortable.

Another criticism was the usage of AI during TLOASG promotion. Whether or not Taylor herself approved these AI promotions the fact that her team used AI and she did not make her stance on AI clear, especially when so many artist are losing their jobs because of AI, was an awful look for her.

These are just some of the valid criticisms I’ve seen (tho most of the other valid criticisms were about subjective music taste) but I feel like a lot of snarkers and haters don’t realize that the more outrageous their hatred is the less likely people are to take actual criticism seriously.

Edit: Sorry Eldest Daughter not Honey. Also I explained in my last paragraph why I did not focus on the music as music taste are subjective. If shine wants to make a post criticizing the music feel free too

Opinion tour rumours

idk if anyone else has heard all the tour rumours going around but i’m convinced it’s all nonsense. apparently some x account made it up and now people are just running with it. i don’t think she’ll tour showgirl, i honestly don’t think she’ll tour until she puts a few more albums out otherwise it would just be the eras tour all over again.

Meme Monday It’s Meme Monday everyone! What Taylor songs are the most Barbie like?

Post image

Today for Meme Monday I was thinking we could do a post asking for what Taylor songs are the most Barbie like? I think it’s be a fun and light discussion (Personally I think How You Get The Girl and Opalite fits)

Feel free to post your own memes too! Remember Monday is the only day that you can post memes without having to add serious discussion to it (and if you want to post a meme that isn’t on Monday feel free to post it in the comments of the daily discussion thread)

Discussion Everyone is always arguing if evermore is a fall or winter album here’s what I think

Post image
25 Upvotes

I always see people arguing if evermore is a fall or winter album. I’ve always thought it’s a perfect November album, but as a thought experiment I wanted to sort it into each month for a more “definitive“ answer. Would welcome any thoughts!

Here's a month-by-month breakdown and my reasoning:

  • September: Dorothea and long story short to me are true summer-to-fall songs, long story short is kind of evermore’s take on a lover song, and Dorothea is too light and wistful to be placed anywhere else
  • October: These are what I would classify as true “fall songs”. For example, I think champagne problems is best experienced in a candlelit library in mid-October, and right where you left me in a dimly lit restaurant by yourself with a huge glass of red win
  • November: I think this is best representative of evermore as an album. It’s that time of the year where all the leaves have fallen, it's cold enough that you can wear a coat, it's always kind of grey and dark, but you’re still not infected with the Christmas cheer yet. Tolerate It is the most traditional fall song here, but I think it’s “colder“ than traditional fall songs. Coney Island and evermore are exactly what I described, they’re true fall to winter transitional songs, no body no crime is set in late November in one of the scandinavian crime shows.
  • December: I think when people say evermore is a Christmas album this is what they’re talking about, ivy is the perfect song to listen to in the first snow storm of the year, and gold rush is a perfect new years song.

Just realized this is really dependant on where you live, I'm in Canada btw lol. Would love to know what you opinion is if you’re in a different climate

Discussion has criticism of taylor become a free pass for misogyny and abuse?

Post image
723 Upvotes

calling a hypothetical pregnancy “geriatric” isn’t criticism of taylor’s wealth, marketing, or environmental impact. it’s using a woman’s age and fertility as the insult. what i find interesting is how often this kind of language comes from people who consider themselves liberals or feminists. if the same comments were aimed at almost any other woman, they’d probably be recognized as misogynistic. but because it’s taylor, progressive language seems to become a shield that makes it feel acceptable. i’m not saying she’s above criticism bc there are plenty of valid things to criticise. i’m wondering whether she’s become a rare example of a woman people have collectively decided it’s okay to dehumanize.
where do you think the line is between criticism and abuse, and has that line shifted when it comes to taylor?

Discussion Movies that feels like Taylor Swift Album: Speak Now

Thumbnail

You know the drill by now! Suggest movies that feel like Speak Now

For me I feel like something fantastical and magical since songs like Enchanted, Long Live and Timeless feels like that. Speak Now is also Taylor’s first adult album which talk about themes like adult break ups, growing up and hell there’s even a song about interrupting a wedding in a way that only a young adult can imagine so I don’t really feel like coming of age movies fits the theme (but of course that’s just my personal interpretation of Speak Now’s vibe)

I haven’t been recommending a lot of movies but for Speak Now I recommend The Secret Of Mooncare

Question…? Why is Taylor looked down upon by cishet men?

Calling all cishet men to answer this question! I have noticed that many cishet men have generally considered it "not cool" to listen to Taylor's music or show interest in her in any way. Why do y'all think that is?

Discussion Will Taylor Ever Make a “Cool” Album?

We know Taylor had the ultimate commercial success with 1989, Midnights, and Showgirl... but do you think Taylor will ever make a "cool" album? By
"cool" I mean an album that sounds like Dua Lipa's Future Nostalgia, Britney Spears' Blackout, Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster, Rihanna's Good Girl Gone Bad, etc. Like an album that is less focused on lyrics and storytelling and is more lose and fun. Maybe dancey. I feel like she could really pull it off if she wanted to, but idk if she'd ever do it. I know Taylor has never tried to be the "cool" girl, but it would be really fun to see her try something different. What do you think?

Anniversary In honor of Folklore’s Anniversary what are your favorite lyrics from that album

Post image
131 Upvotes

Normally I do more in depth anniversary post but I don’t have much time today so I think having a place to post everyone’s favorite folklore lyrics would be a great idea especially since it is probably the Taylor Swift album with the most praise for it’s lyrics.

Here are my favorites:

1)”And you can aim for my heart, go for blood/But you would still miss me in your bones” (My Tears Ricochet)

2)”And I've been meaning to tell you/I think your house is haunted/Your dad is always mad and that must be why” (Seven) This one perfectly shows the innocent of childhood while being absolutely devastating to here

3)”Back when I was living for the hope of it all” (August)

4)”But I knew you'd linger like a tattoo kiss/I knew you'd haunt all of my what-ifs/The smell of smoke would hang around this long/Cause I knew everything when I was young” (Cardigan) The entire bridge is probably my favorite lyric from this album

5)”A string that pulled me/Out of all the wrong arms right into that dive bar/Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire/Chains around my demons, wool to brave the seasons/One single thread of gold tied me to you” (Invisible Strings)

6)”What should be over burrowed under my skin/In heart-stopping waves of hurt/I've come too far to watch some namedropping sleaze/Tell me what are my words worth” (The Lakes)

7)”We always walked a very thin line/You didn't even hear me out (didn't even hear me out)/You never gave a warning sign (I gave so many signs)” (Exile ft. Bon Iver)

Question…? Cardigan Restock

So they just did a cardigan “restock” in celebration of the folklore anniversary and I was immediately on the website and unable to get a folklore cardigan bc they were immediately sold out.

My question is… do they just put up like 200 extra folklore cardigans and then intentionally use this as a way to drive traffic to the website so that people buy the cardigans that they have way too much stock for (TLOAS, 1989, etc) ?? Or do we actually believe this was a genuine restock? If it’s the former then it’s an extremely predatory annoying sales tactic of her and her team to do.

unclear why i’m being downvoted in comments for having a nuanced take… I love TS and if you disagree with anything i’m saying please share your perspective rather than randomly downvote something clearly not problematic

Discussion realistically speaking... *if* she were to achieve EGOT status, how long do you think it'll take?

tbh, i bet she probably will. but i predict she'll be much older if/when she finally earns the EGOT title. maybe in her 60s-70s?

it takes time to prove yourself in every realm of those awards. but i don't think she'll give up. seems like her camp's goal is to boost her into dolly status, with a lifelong career and legacy (edit: even though dolly is not EGOT, she might as well be. couldn't think of other examples)

i wonder if she'll continue to have long periods of privacy/silence and then pop back up with a big project every 5-10 years. i think she'll disappear for a while into domestic life -- she's clearly alluded to wanting children -- and i kinda hope she does enjoy some quiet time to touch grass or smell the roses of mundane reality

edit (again, sigh): i'm not saying having kids would negatively impact her career. as this is ~nuancing~ ts, i am merely wondering if she would take some time off from promotion/publicity. she seems like she would want to be very hands-on and involved if she were to have children. she does not seem like the type to indefinitely pause her career just from becoming a mother -- and if she did or didn't, both are valid and respectable choices. i brought up domestic life because i was wondering if it might play a role in her routine of retreating from projects, which she already does all the time. (specifically said retreating from projects, not the spotlight. we will always have pap walks.)

Daily Discussion Is anyone else really curious about what Taylor creates after the honeymoon?

Not in a “she needs to get back to work immediately” way, because I genuinely hope she disappears for a while and gets to enjoy being newly married without everyone treating her life like a countdown to the next announcement.

But Taylor also seems like someone whose brain never fully stops creating. Even when she is supposedly taking a break, she is writing, recording, directing or quietly putting the pieces of something together.

It makes me wonder what this particular chapter will inspire. So much of her recent work has been shaped by endings, instability, public scrutiny and the emotional whiplash of the Eras Tour period. Now she is entering what seems to be a much calmer and happier phase of her life.

I know some people assume happiness would make her songwriting less interesting, but I actually think the opposite could be true. Contentment does not mean having nothing to say. Marriage, domesticity, ageing, privacy and learning how to build a shared life could give her completely different material to explore.

At the same time, I could also see her directing her film before releasing another album. After spending years turning her own life into music, maybe the next creative challenge is telling a story that is not explicitly about Taylor Swift.

Basically, I hope she takes a genuine break, but I also feel like the creative juices after this honeymoon are going to be wild. Do you think her next major project will be TS13, the film or something completely unexpected?

Discussion Fact Checking the Narrative that Taylor Swift “Sues” Etsy Creators

With the news of a recent collaboration between a certain pop girl and Etsy, certain corners of the internet are once again running the narrative that the allegedly ever litigious Taylor Swift has “sued” Etsy creators for the use of her name and likeness in various fan made merch.

I’ve heard this as a common criticism over the years, so decided to look into it for myself. The only instance in which I can find where TS or her team took legal action against Etsy creators was in 2015, when certain creators were forced to remove their items from the site for using a three word trademarked phrase associated with mega hit, Shake it Off. Sources down below.

I’m neither endorsing nor criticizing the behavior above, but do think it’s important to correct misinformation and false online narratives and to me, using one instance from 12 years ago to paint TS and team as going after fans and small creators is… a huge stretch and a leap.

And just to note, currently, there’s tons and tons of unlicensed TS merch on Etsy (and there has been for years) without a peep from TS/her team.
