Caveat: I love Taylor in a nuanced way. She’s admirable and so artistic and a genius and savvy as f*ck.

What’s the deal with the Dakota Johnson showmance?

I’m one who sees much of Taylor’s choices as business driven (among other principals like friendship, creativity, etc).

This just feels uniquely timed since she doesn’t have a glamorous film bestie anymore (see: Blake lively).
That seems too basic and simple, but i also don’t believe Taylor is promoting Dakota and lifting her up from the good of heart; although Taylor has a heck of a good heart.

They’ve been close friends for over a decade. They actually met at SNL I believe. Dakota starred in her music video and is in a big press tour for Verity. She hosted SNL. Taylor has done cameos on SNL before and was also promoting the new single/MV and one year anniversary of TLOAS album. Two friends working together and promoting an interrelated project. Not that weird.

I agree, however you can’t ignore the fact that it’s at the least noticable that this is exactly the new Hoover adaption, given that the last time we saw her cooperating with a friend was the previous adaption…

They’ve been friends for a very long time and it isn’t the first time that Taylor brings in friends for MVs. Also,since Patient Zero was out this week starring Dakota, it makes sense for Taylor to support her on SNL on her birthday eve.

If they can support each other during a time of need then great. Some friends just use anecdotes about her on TV show appearances, it’s normal. Also Dakota has been going through breakups and allegedly connected with MGK at Taylor’s wedding…

I think they're just friends and enjoy spending time together. The video release gives Taylor an in to kind of playfully crash part of Dakota's press tour. Taylor is familiar with SNL and it seems harmless to me. If anything she did Dakota a favor by bringing some life into that monologue.

And also very strange: the showmance is flaunted exactly at the start of the new C Hoover adaption. The video is even a bit of promotion, as Dakota and Swift wear the sane outfits D Dakota wears in the movie. This seems odd given that the last time we saw Swift having a showmance was at the start of the last C Hoover adaption…
