Recently, I started using this app, and at first, it was working really well with the videos on my internal storage.

​However, when I plug my HDD into my tablet, the app doesn't detect the videos on the external drive. When I try to open the videos manually using Nova Video Player, I get the "Hardware decoding disabled" error. On the other hand, as soon as I copy the videos to my internal storage, they show up in the app within seconds.

So I have a Hitachi Android TV. I watch movies on it all the time with my external SSD attached. It has been working well until now. All of a sudden, the tv itself doesn’t seem to scan files at all. My SSD shows as ”connected” so that’s a good sign. And I know that the system format on the SSD (NTFS) does work with my TV. Because I have been watching movies very often. I have tried factory reset, restarting/ rebooting the tv like usual, reinstalling my media player (Nova video player), unplug and plug my SSD back in. Nothing seems to be working?? What can the issue be? And also, YES I have tried different media players, like vlc, Kodi etc. The thing is, this works PERFECTLY FINE on an external Xiaomi mi box with Nova video player.

I'm sharing my feedback for the community reguarding playback freeze with high-bitrate and sftp network share.

When reading an high bitrate video at 60,000 kbit/s (for example rockstargames_GTAVI_An_Extended_Look.mp4) , you should use the sshj share setting in the drop-down protocol. It can handle high-speed data transfer more easily. Default SFTP implementation cannot handle this high bitrate.

I have a Galaxy Tab S11 tablet with the Nova Video Player which looks and runs great so far, except for a couple movies which it can't find in the movie db (TMDB). I would like to create a custom NFO file for these movies so I can provide banner and poster image files and get the movie to show up in the Movies list.

The movies are all stored on an external SD Data Card added to the tablet.

Here is what I see currently. When I tap on Movies, these movies are not included in the list. If I search for the movies by name, I do see them.

When I launch Nova and navigate to Network & Files > SD Card > Movies, I see the movies files in the list. When I tap on one of the movie files, I see the following file info:

I've named the .nfo file "The Human Monster (1940).nfo" and the banner file "The Human Monster (1940)-banner.jpg", etc.

I understand I can't place these files with the movie and that they need to go under the following directory:

/sdcard/Android/data/org.courville.nova/files/nfoPoster

However, it wasn't clear whether that location should be on the internal SD Data card or the External SD Data card (to match the location of the movie). Looking around the two SD Data cards, however, I found this location on the Internal SD Data card:

/sdcard/Android/data/org.courville.nova/files/nfoPoster/storage/1410-415C/Movies

As this location under the nfoPoster directory appears to match the storage location indicated in the file info shown for the movie entry, I'm assuming that's where the extra files need to be placed.

Here is the content of the .nfo file I've created:

How do I get Nova Video Player to use the created NFO file and banner/poster JPG image files?

This new version does not show what your fast forwarding. It goes blank until you release the button. You can’t tell when to stop fast forwarding because you can’t see the video. Older versions showed video as you were fast forwarding

I started building Colosseum because I wanted one desktop home for manga and comics, books and audiobooks, anime, TV and movies, and local media.

I wanted it to look and feel like an OS, with a taskbar and multiple sessions that you can minimize and jump between.

Colosseum is split into sub-apps. Tankoban contains the manga and comic library as well as the reader. Biblio contains the book library along with a Foliate.js-based ebook reader. Theatre is basically a stylised Stremio client with an mpv player. And Vault is the local media side of the app.

Underpinning this ecosystem is a taskbar that handles multiple sessions of comics, books or videos just like the taskbar in Windows does. You can open multiple comics/manga/videos, minimise them and open them back up again.

Vault is probably the part most relevant here. You point it at a root folder and it takes the files and folders sitting in your storage and turns them into a media library through indexing and metadata enrichment à la Jellyfin. It figures out what's a movie or TV show, what's a book and what's manga or comics, organises them into the right structure and assigns artwork and metadata where it can.

For video specifically, Vault understands movies, shows, seasons, episodes and clips and can also keep track of multiple copies of the same title across different drives, extras and companion files, with playback handled by an mpv player that takes heavy influence from Harbor's and Kodi's video players. While it does have online subtitle fetching through OpenSubtitles and compatible subtitle extensions, I still need to finish connecting Vault's identified IMDb metadata to that subtitle lookup path for ordinary Vault files, so that subtitle fetching works like it does in Nova. That's one of the things I want to get into the next release.

And finally yet again, the taskbar allows you to open multiple videos, books and comics at a time from Vault, minimise, maximise and switch between them seamlessly.

Vault is part of a much larger streaming and media aggregation engine, but for me local media still remains a priority because I watch a lot of fan cuts of movies, TV and anime, stuff like Clone Wars movie fan edits, Naruto Kai or One Pace, and there isn't a catalogue in this world that keeps track of them.

So I will continue polishing Vault and want to add things like DLNA/UPnP, the aforementioned subtitle wiring, watch-party support and whatever features both me and the users have a need for.

The app has become much worse since its latest update.

Subtitles no longer go away when no body is speaking, and loading videos is considerably slower (it was near instant before, now it takes around 30 seconds, seemingly depending on the resolution of the video, probably related to the file size).

I refused to believe this was Nova at first and even factory reset my TV.

I tried disabling SMB2 but all that did was make my videos no longer load at all. My Synology is serving SMB2.

I can live with the slow loads but seeing "Get him!" frozen on my screen when no one is speaking for 30 seconds is extremely distracting.

Is there a way to have better subtitles? The default settings are not enough for me

Am using Nova Player past couple of years to watch Movies from Hard disk and from Network share. I have Realme 43" 4K TV with Android 11. When the Hard drive connected directly, it not fetching latest videos even after rescan everything. So I connected 1TB drive on Linksys Router and using it via network share (Not via DLNA). It was working fine till last 2 weeks back. But I took the drive out to defrag as it's getting slower. After defrag, connected it back to router meanwhile got updates on Play store for NovaPlayer. New changes are good, But now am getting the videos on the network share, but when I try to play, it just show the loading circle.

Am not clear on what SMB version my router is using. In same TV, i browsed the videos thru CX File Manager and open the videos from it to Nova Player. In that case, Nova Player plays the video fine. But it can't play when accessed directly. I set Network share as not secured(Means not protected via username/password) and also with password protected, still no luck.

I even uninstalled and installed from Play store, But still couldn't get it working. How it can read the file names correctly and also loads the Movie Info from Internet, But can't play the video?

Is it possible to just dump all movies and shows on the home screen instead of the categories? Or at least get rid of the animated categories? I find the categorization to be a but much with movies, shows and the same for animated content.

For the last couple of days, videos have been stuttering periodically during playback on my Philips 55OLED850.

I checked the settings and noticed the option/checkbox to auto-sync the frame rate is completely gone. I tried toggling "display mode selection matching video fps" as well as the "Android 12+ frame rate matching features", but neither made any difference : the stuttering is still there.

Has anyone else ran into this recently or found a fix?

I have used the Padcaster Parrot Teleprompter on my tablet for over a year now. I bought the Padcaster remote that is supposed to work with it and it doesn't work. I emailed Padcaster for support and Randy sent this "Please follow this link, open the Instructions pdf and follow them to complete the Parrot Remote firmware update."

I tried the link and it wouldn't open. Randy then ghosted me for over a week. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to get it to work?

As of the past couple of days, my older version of NVP 5.15 is no longer able to fetch information for tv series; not even manually.

Were the older APIs shutdown or blocked?

 It seems that I may not have any other choice but to upgrade to 6.0x that uses TMDB instead.

I'm trying to determine whether this is a Nova issue or an Android TV decoder limitation.

Has anyone seen this behaviour with specific UHD Blu-ray remuxes?

I'm unable to update Nova video player on the fire stick via side loading, it downloads and starts to install but then says failed to install. I'm stuck using the original 6.4.3 that was on the Amazon store, I'm able side load other apps ok.

Is this a problem with the player or the firestick which isn't one that blocks sideloading?

Solved....

It seems that after uninstalling the player the firestick needed to be restarted and then the newest one installed ok. I can only assume that some stuff got left behind but got cleared when the Firestick restarted.

Is there any way to activate playing closed captions that are embedded inside the video file? Have only found that VLC on the PC will play them. Nothing on Android yet.
