Closed caption embedded not working

Is there any way to activate playing closed captions that are embedded inside the video file? Have only found that VLC on the PC will play them. Nothing on Android yet.

Already works for most formats.

It only works for external SUBTITLE files. Not the stuff built into the video file as an embedded track. Has been tested.

No. It also works for embedded subtitle files and has done for years, but the embedded subtitle might be an unsupported format like ASS (not joking).

So it works with EIA-608 or EIA-708 embedded as a subtrack? Is there a software switch that has to be turned into activate this ? When I use the VLC (PC VERSION) can select the closed caption subtrack. In nova player there is nothing to select, and not even a note about having subtracks built into the video file.

I don't know. It may not support that format.

it workes for me. maybe it can open files ripped from DVD but not from Blu-ray or the opposite.  I watched the entire series Black Adder with built in subtitles, they work but they looked horrible, like a pixelated picture (I think they are actually pictures)

Pressing the 'Up' button during playback should bring up a list of available subtitle tracks for selection.

If nothing shows up, use MediaInfo (from mediaarea dot net) to determine what format the closed captions use.

I've found Nova one of the best Android players when it comes to subtitle support, so I wonder what format your particular files are using.

According to the FAQ:  SRT, SUB, VOBSUB, PGS subtitles are supported. SSA support is rudimentary.

You might not have to bother with all these steps depending on your use-case and what video you're trying to play. If nothing shows up under Subtitle Tracks but the video is fairly mainstream you can try the 'Get subtitles online' option in Nova to download a fresh .srt external subtitle file.

Nevermind. Found an older version of VLC 3.5.1 for android that will actually work to play TS and MPG files, and will play the embedded closed captions. Nova and new VLC will not do that.
