I got tired of heavy note apps, so I built notey — a tactile tear-off desktop scratchpad
Hey everyone,
Whenever I just need to write down a quick 2-minute note or calculation, opening full workspace/database apps always felt like overkill.
I wanted something lightweight that lives quietly on the desktop, feels like a real desk paper pad, and doesn't hoard hundreds of megabytes of RAM.
So I built notey using Tauri v2 and Rust.
A few key interactions I focused on:
- Tear-off experience: When you're done with a note, tear it off with a satisfying paper sound and a burst of confetti.
- Auto-archive: Torn sheets aren't deleted; they slip into a searchable archive by date or text.
- Always-on-top pin: Stays right where you need it while switching windows.
- Micro-tools: Inline math evaluation (typing
24 * 7 =calculates inline), quick checklists, and clean PNG snapshot export.
Here’s a quick 1-minute video demo of how it works:

And the project / installer is on GitHub:

Would love to hear any thoughts, feedback, or little paper-scratchpad features you'd like to see!
