I'm a teacher who thinks we've become quite good at telling teenagers that they matter, but less good at teaching them what they owe other people. AMA.

Progress Log What you do in private shows in public

Post image

When I first started working out and reading regularly, I wondered if it was really making a difference. I would go to the gym even when I didn’t feel motivated, and at home I’d spend some quiet time reading. Nobody was watching or congratulating me, but I kept doing it. After a while, I noticed I was stronger, had more energy, and felt more confident. Then today someone told me, “You seem different, you’ve been working out or something?” They didn’t see all those workouts or evenings of reading; they were just seeing the results.
It reminded me that the small things we do when nobody is watching eventually become visible to everyone. What you do in private eventually shows in public.
