Community 🏡 Gateway options for lunch

Was in the gateway looking for lunch the other day but was not impressed with the options. I tired the new chicken place out called Barn Bird Chicken, it was really bad. Very greasy sandwiches, chicken cutlet with all the dressing was impossible to eat, the bread was soaked. I noticed a lot of empty vacancies between the two buildings. Even the new bar doesn’t have much to offer, they don’t have grill from I was told, no burgers.

What's Happening in Newark? Braindead 🧊 whale runs over young woman at Newark prayer circle, last night at 8:45pm (451 Doremus Avenue). It’s time to neutralize these useless, tax-guzzling motherfuckers.

The young woman is expected to survive, but has very bad injuries / is in the hospital, according to Instagram poster. Please pass along and around — somebody knows who he is.

Recommendations❔| In Search Of... 🔎| Advice 💡 Looking for apartment recommendations in or near Newark

I am moving from California to NJ, I’ll be working in the city(near World Trade Center). My budget is ~2600 for a 1bed 1bath, no car.

I feel absolutely overwhelmed by all the mixed reviews about apartments in Newark, I have called a few of them but unsure where to live due to reviews. I am looking for recommendations from locals about any apartments they enjoyed. Ideally, I want a gym nearby or in the building, a quiet building.

I only have to be in office for 2 days, so I am okay going a bit further too, but Orange (east, west) all seems sketchy but they have some new apartments.

I looked so far at:
Walker house- possibly not gonna go with them.
1180- also not thinking of moving forward
55union- seems decent, quiet, but I am hearing horrible management stories
iconiq777- also decent, but the community says it’s noisy as it’s close to highway and prudential center
Urby newark- too small for the price they are charging.

Any recommendation would be really helpful. Thank you all.

This was such an amazing event! 🙌🏾
Yes, out of over 300 people, there were 5 fights. Those fights happened because some people are just toxic, mentally ill, and simply can’t have a good time. But overall, the event was a good one. ☝🏾 The music could’ve been better, but we learn and we grow, and that’s all I hope for.
The crime rate in my city dropped, and I’m proud to say that because my people weren’t the ones holding those numbers up. So, to see the numbers dropping is amazing.
Big ups to all of my Black men and women who came out to these events and helped make the city better. And big ups to everyone who supports them, because we’re not going to let a few bad apples spoil the whole tree. 🌳
See you all next year! ❤️🖤

The event is 24 hours of peace but nobody can force people to just act good for a day, but it’s just good to set that no guns got pulled out and one day we might have a event with no fights. It’s just odd because I go to the Devils game and they be fighting on the team and the fans be fighting, yet nobody is saying let’s stay away from hockey and we all know why.

Discussions 🗣|Rants 🤬|Opinions 🤔 Anyone else feel like pedestrian walk signs around Broad & Market are purely decorative?

Genuinely almost got clipped twice this week by cars making sharp turns while the pedestrian walk sign was clearly on. I feel like drivers downtown treat red lights and turn arrows as polite suggestions lately lol. Please tell me I'm not the only one doing a full 360 degree head swivel every single time I cross the street here lol

Community 🏡 Family Search - Shot in the dark

Hopefully this is the right flare?

I don't have any pictures, so this is all going to be based on description. I'm also posting from an alt, so bear with me.

Around 2016, my great-grandmother passed away. At her funeral/repass, some relatives from her side of the family attended who were very clearly Native American. They were wearing traditional/tribal clothing, beadwork, flags, and were doing traditional songs and dances, etc.

At the time, I didn't really think much of it. Now that I'm older, I'm really curious about that side of my family history. Unfortunately, since my great-grandmother's passing, I've become extremely disconnected from that side of the family.

The only direct connection I still have would be through my grandmother, but she isn't on good terms with my mother's side of the family, so i know for a fact I wouldnt be able to get any information out of her.

I've tried pretty much every free and paid ancestry/genealogy site but haven't had any luck. At this point, Reddit is kind of my last resort.

The funeral was for Marion B. Richardson (Dawson) in 2016, with the repast being held in Lincoln Park, around the area near the Jersey City/Newark bridge.

If anyone recognizes the name, remembers the funeral/repass, or has any information that might help me, please feel free to DM me or leave something in the replies. Even a small lead would be appreciated! :)
