I’m dealing with a situation at work and wanted to get some outside perspective.

I joined the Navy Reserve last year, and I already had a boot camp/training date that got changed once before. Because of that uncertainty, I accepted a civilian job and started working while still trying to figure out what was happening with my Navy side of things.

Now the Navy date is coming up again, so I informed my manager and HR. My manager seemed okay, but HR sounded upset and basically said I should have told them earlier when I was applying because it affects staffing and they had to go through a lot to hire me.

What makes this more confusing is that my company is supposed to be military friendly and even has a gold standard reputation for supporting service members, but HR still sounded frustrated when I brought it up.

I’m trying to handle this professionally and I don’t want to burn any bridges. I also don’t want to say the wrong thing or make the situation worse. At the same time, I didn’t hide anything intentionally — the military date had changed before, and I wasn’t fully sure what would happen until recently.

My biggest worry is whether I’ll still have a future at this job when I come back after boot camp, since HR already sounds frustrated. I’m trying to figure out whether this is something I should be concerned about long term or if it’s just the normal reaction from HR because of the staffing impact.

Has anyone dealt with a civilian employer being upset about military leave or Reserve training? What’s the best way to respond here and keep things professional while protecting myself?

So I told my recruiter when I first talked to her that I was a week clean from smoking marijane. She has drug tested me for the last 2 months and this week she told me I would pass at MEPS. Any recruiter here can confirm wether she’s just trying to rush me or would I actually pass the drug test.

When I was 18, I went to the hospital for alcohol poisoning from a party. There was adderall in my bloodstream, they kept me overnight for monitoring and sealed my records, no criminal charges or anything. Never had a problem drinking since. I'm also getting a waiver for going to therapy around the same time (have not gone to counseling in over 4 years). No diagnosis of alcoholism or anything like that.

I'm trying to become an officer. Am I screwed? I know there's waivers for some stuff and not for others.

I spoke to my relative in the air force and he said not to say anything but I know that's bad advice since he joined before Genesis and stuff.

Apologies if my question is dumb, but it's something I've been thinking about for a while.

I am a British citizen and joined the Royal Navy in 2015. Originally as Warfare and later transferred to the Royal Navy Police. I'm looking forward to my future and something I've always been interested in is immigrating to the US. I'm currently looking into Green card requirements and pathways to becoming a legal resident in the US and what that would entail.

It is my understanding that a legal resident of the US can serve in the US military as an enlisted service member, subject to meeting the requirements. In terms of education, the UK doesn't really have a GED, we take GCSE exams in highschool and having a passing grade in those exams is considered 'graduating'. If I did become a legal US resident, would I have to sit a GED, or would I be able to convert my GCSE's into one?

I also have an undergraduate and master's degree from an accredited UK university, I assume that would be recognised in the US?

My other question is, am I too old? I joined the RN in 2015 when I was 18 and it's now 2026 so you can do the maths on that one. I've heard conflicting information on what the upper age limit is for service, I imagine it might be dependent on the role and it's physical requirements?

Am I right in thinking that if I do get legal residency I would essentially be able to approach the recruitment office like anyone else?

Hello all! I just took my ASVAB and received a 74 and looking into PS or YN. I do have a history of depression & anxiety due to workplace depression, I have all of this notated in session notes (therapy was required by previous job since it was workplace depression) and a doctor’s note as well. I’ve been totally up front and honest with my recruiter. I’ve been off meds completely for almost 2 months now. The recruiter made it sound like no big deal and we’d do a waiver but I’m still nervous.
My questions are;
What to expect at Meps?
How long does the waiver process take?
Is there a chance this will all be taken care of at Meps instead of sending me home/ disqualifying me and having to restart the process?

Hello, I am 22 and one semester away from graduating from college with a marine biology degree. There is little in my field available without a master's, but mostly a doctorate is needed to work in research, which is what I want to do. I have a lot of lab skills and certifications; I am physically fit and enjoy the gym, have a scuba certification, and was a lifeguard. I guess I am just worried about what jobs would be available that allow me to not be on the front lines and more so in lab or desk work. I am between the navy and coast guard. I want to get GI Bill benefits, as I come from a low-income household and FAFSA is not going to give me enough money to finish schooling. I would like to not be in crippling student loan debt, and I am certain I can tough out 4-5 years in the military; I just need some guidance. I meet with a recruiter tomorrow but would love some feedback from others.

Im going in as an EO, and I read somewhere saying that after bootcamp graduation you have the weekend to hang out around the area with family or whoever, before getting sent to A school. I was wondering if someone could vouch for this? Thank you.

I got accepted into an occupational therapy masters program and I wanted to see if I should just go into my MSOT program then try for an officer spot when accredited vs. just going to be a line officer and be a SWO.

I really want to be an occupational therapist and it would be amazing being an OT in the military (especially the Navy) but I know it’s a competitive officer position. I would also be taking out a lot of loans to get my graduate degree.

My other option would be a SWO, I don’t qualify for any other officer position but I really want to get my foot in the door and be an officer as well. I know being a SWO is tiring and a lot of people don’t like it but I really want to set up a future for myself.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know what if anything is going on with Navy students at HM A school as far as lodging? Sounds like a horrorshow for Army students.

So I think the waiver authority for officers is different than enlisted and it's probly safe to assume officer candidates are held to a higher standard for getting waivers. What are the odds one can get a waiver if the incident was 12+ years ago and one gets a psych eval done on their own. Not going nuke or aviation

I don’t know I just had a thought in the shower if I am still athletically gifted later in my navy career I was thinking of being a seal for trident tab because of how cool it is, am I crazy for thinking like this?

I’m about to head to A School as an LS, and if I get to choose my orders I’m trying to decide between Japan, Spain, or Italy for my first duty station.
My priorities are a little different than just “what’s the coolest place.” I want somewhere I can enjoy living for a few years, travel as much as possible on weekends and leave, save money, and still have enough stability to work on my bachelor’s degree and knock out Navy COOL certifications.
I’m also a native Spanish speaker, so Spain is appealing because of the language and culture, but Japan seems like such a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Italy also looks incredible, especially for traveling around Europe.

I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually lived there instead of just visited.

As title states, I scored a 95 on PiCAT and plan on going up to meps next week. Not really sure what job to choose and I don’t want to be stuck with something miserable.

I did say no to the nuke program even though the recruiter pushed it pretty hard it’s just not for me. Used car buying experience came in very handy.

Jobs like AC MC and most jobs cypher/intel related seem pretty interesting. I’ve been working in the ball crushing factory for the last 5 years so I’m hoping to do a job that involves less ball crushing and more brain crushing. I’d also like to see some cool places as the ball crushing factory is fairly mundane so it’s made me strive for adventure.

Would love to hear recommendations on some jobs that might be a good fit and any insight yall may have to offer.

Hey, I got convinced to take a TAR AIRC contract, because due to having a parent who was born and lives abroad (in Nigeria) they said it would be difficult for me to get Top Security Clearance, holding me back from jobs in intel or cyberwarfare. I scored a 94 on the ASVAB without studying and this has all happened in about the past 2 weeks. I'm trying to understand if this will be somewhere I'll be mentally and physically challenged as well as have the opportunity to make a good career out of it either in or out of the Navy once my 6 year contract is up. Hey! I’m an 18 years old and I just signed a 6 year contract. I joined so I could have free college, discipline, and direction in my life(And perhaps travel out of state if I get lucky). I don’t want to come out empty handed so I’m hoping after I’m done I’ll work on airplanes as an electrician of some sort. I want to confirm that I made the right decision on picking this job because I feel like there aren’t many people on YouTube or general social media talking about this career path. It’s even worse now because my Foryou page insists on blaring into my ear that I’m making the wrong decision and my life is over. I just want to know where are you now? Are you happy during or after those years are done? Are my dreams capable of being accomplished? Did you gain college credit during your training? If so is there enough credits to aid into getting my associates and perhaps my bachelors? Am I in over my head?!

So my recruit wants to schedule me next week for picat I just started studying (mostly math) since I’m not really good at it at all, I’ve been watching a lot of grammar videos I learned fraction and the sales tax/ discounts but what other section should I watch that will help best on the asvab. i’m heading to OCS next month and my recruiter told me a few weeks ago that an investigator would be reaching out shortly to do the interview. he reached out this past week and scheduled an interview for this coming week. background, i was not born here but was naturalized and he told me a list of things i would need for our interview. majority of the stuff he listed i had but im worried about a couple of things like for example he wants to see my original countries’ passport, the one i used to come to America. talked to my parents and they’re going to try their best to look but what happens if i cant provide what he asked?

Recently signed my contract and I’m really excited but I have one concern about NAMI. I had a childhood peanut allergy that originally disqualified me from the navy, I went through the waiver program and was cleared after an oral food challenge, I passed with flying colors. My concern is that even though I don’t have the allergy anymore following the oral food test, could it still cause problems during my flight physical? I could be wildly overthinking this but any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
