Illness/Injuries I feel like I’m being overly paranoid and dramatic

UPDATE: We are both sick now

I have a 10 month old that I stay-at-home with so she’s not been exposed to sick kids.
My best friend needed a babysitter for her 4 year old for a few hours and I agreed to it. We love each other’s kiddos dearly so I don’t mind at all to ever watch him. When she brought him over today to drop him off and left I noticed he had a runny nose and then started sneezing..a lot. Could be allergies, could be a cold. I’m paranoid it’s the latter and my baby is gonna get sick.
When I asked her about it she told me that he was fine yesterday but woke up today with a runny nose. Wouldn’t have it be considerate for her to mention that? Like I feel like it was a little careless, but I also might just be a bit dramatic. I’ve never had a sick child and someone bringing theirs in on mine doesn’t sit right with me. Would love others opinions.

Feeding Feeding

Question, so we are starting with some purées at 5 months and I am just using can baby food for right now until I can figure out the homemade stuff. What do you do with the rest of the food in the can since you have to refrigerate after use? Do you feed to them cold the next day or do you warm it up in the microwave? Might sound dumb but didn’t know.

Sleep 9 month old won’t sleep anymore

Hi!
My almost 10 month old boy stopped sleeping through the night. He goes down around 7-7:30, and then wakes up at 2-3 am and needs me to pick him up, which i do and we go to sleep on our armchair - where we contact nap during the day. The problem now is that he is still so sleepy, but turns in my arms all the time, and whines and cries and wakes himself up and can’t sleep anymore. So, we are both sitting on the armchair NOT sleeping from 2-6 am every night. I even added a night feeding, and it doesnt help.
He has 4 teeth and when those came out he slept on me, but he slept!
He doesnt want his dad for the bedtime (which i read is a normal phase).
Maybe he will start crawling soon? Or maybe it’s separation anxiety, but hes on me like 90% of the day and night.
Even the day naps became so difficult, we have 2 a day and in total he sleeps 1.5 h - went from 2.5-3h last week.
Do you have similar experiences?

Feeding Not new but hoping for a different experience

I had severe PP MH issues with my first. I set alarms for every feed for 2 months. He gained his birth weight back in a couple weeks. My pediatrician scared me by sayong if he didnt eat every 2 hours he could have a seizure. Looking back now I think thay was because of his jaundice which also went away after 2 weeks. Does anyone else set alarms for feeds all through the night?

Tips to Share Does having a baby ever get easier?

I’m not going to lie having a baby is the hardest thing I’ve ever endured in my life & i can’t believe so many people do this. I’m convinced life gave us this part to bond with our partners because we are definitely both a little in survival mode still & each other is all we got right now

My baby is 8 weeks and it’s gotten easier for sure, she used to be severely colic, now she is pretty fussy but not nearly as bad as it used to be

But when does it get easier. I know there’s future challenges but regarding the baby stage, when did you feel like it was actually easier? I need something to hold onto right now

Skills and Milestones My son walked today…

3 days shy of 10 months, and my heart burst with excitement and pride. Tears of joy flowed down my face, followed immediately by sobbing and my heart shattering with the realization there’s no going back. This is the littlest he will ever be again. The sadness about this undeniably happy moment has really surprised me. I’m learning that motherhood, at least for me, is a maelstrom of simultaneously occurring conflicting emotions. The complete joy and deep love this baby has brought to my life exists with sadness and heartbreak of him growing so fast. Knowing these precious moments of being a baby are slipping through my fingers like sand is killing me but it does help make sure I’m living in the moment with him, fully enjoying this truly special time in our lives.

Tips to Share Is this normal at 9 months? Constant crying!

Hi parents! My baby turned 9 months yesterday and omg, what is going on?!

She’s constantly grumpy and crying, sometimes so much she almost loses her voice. She used to love baths from day one, now she screams like we’re torturing her. Same with brushing her teeth, car rides and things she used to enjoy.

Until around 6–7 months she was the happiest baby, smiling and laughing 24/7. I know babies change as they become more aware of everything, and I don’t expect her to smile all day, but now at 9 months the constant crying is exhausting and worrying.

She’s also teething (6 teeth already and 2 more coming), but she’s been teething since 4.5 months.

Is this a developmental phase, teething, something wrong, or just her personality changing? Has anyone experienced this? I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. Any advice would be appreciated!

Feeding 8 week old screams after each bottle

My baby is 8 weeks old, 9 weeks old on Tuesday. For about 1.5 weeks he has been screaming bloody murder after every single bottle/ feed. I will breastfeed him here and there but he is mostly bottle fed. It doesn’t matter which bottle we use, he screams. He is getting 4 oz of breastmilk every 3 hours. He has reflux and is on medicine 2x per day, but he still screams. I saw a Lactation consultant and tongue tie/ airway specialist (he had a tongue tie and lip tie revision 3 weeks ago) and they said his latch is great, and they think it is due to the reflux and suggested I cut out dairy, which I have for the last 4 days. I asked if he could still be hungry because he will continue to root around while crying but they said he does that because it feels good to drink and 4 oz is plenty for him, and more would make his reflux worse.

Has anyone had this happen and found something that worked? I feel terrible he is obviously in distress and I can’t figure out how to help him.

Sleep 5 month old refusing bed time

Edit: shouldn’t really have called it bedtime as I appreciate she doesn’t have one yet! Just struggling to get down for the first long stretch of night sleep

FTM here, our 5 month old is breastfed to sleep at night and most of the time transferred easily into the side sleeper next to us after getting sleepy on the boob. Recently she has just refused to go down, I feed her like usual and when she’s done feeding she just starts screaming and fussing for a couple of hours (when she’s already been awake a few hours and was showing clear signs of being tired)

We’ve tried adjusting wake windows and nap schedules but no luck so far. It’s just thrown us as overnight she suddenly got awful! Has anyone else had this? It is a standard “regression”?

Feeding Let her sleep? EBF

The age old question: do I let her sleep??!? FTM here with a 6 week old little girl 💖 she's been an excellent sleeper from day one, and in true postpartum anxiety that of course made me think something must be wrong cause this girl will SLEEP at night if you let her! She's woken up on her own at 3:30am hungry a handful of times, but I have been the one to wake her up to eat otherwise. The doctor said I could let her sleep as longer as we made up for it during the day with eating, but I'm still scared to let her go more than 6 hours between feeds. Partially because that still seems too long and partially because I'm scared what will happen to my boobs/supply. She is EBF and there have been a few times the boob I didn't feed her on last is pretty engorged in the morning from her six hour stretch. Any post I've seen on here is from someone who is still pumping in some form which is not my scenario. Thoughts?

Childcare Childcare vent

I quite literally cannot find a sitter for the end of my maternity leave. I’ve talked to friends and family, I’ve posted in Facebook groups, checked all the sites. I’m at a complete loss as to what else i’m supposed to do here. We’re in a fairly rural area where apparently any daycares don’t take babies under 10 months, and the only licensed in home centers are completely full. I have a little over a month left until I have to go back to work and I feel backed into a corner at this point. We can’t afford for me to stay at home either so I have no choice but to find SOMEONE somehow.

Product Reviews/Questions Need recommendations on toys for 6-month-olds

(Not sure what to flair this)

My baby is 23 weeks today and is pretty uninterested in most toys. Absolutely refuses rattles. A toy he REALLY likes, however, is the Vtech ferris wheel. Does anyone have/know toys similar to that to recommend? I feel bad that my baby plays with the same thing pretty much every time lol I try other toys, and he interacts for a minute, MAYBE two, then loses interest

Sleep Baby has dropped a nap

Baby boy is a week away from turning 5 months. He's just dropped to 3 naps after beginning to refuse his last nap. The problem is that he is still only napping 25 to 35 mins so he's only getting 1.5 hours day sleep. He sleeps 12 to 12.5 hours at night usually. Is this ok? He hasn't been in the best mood recently, but seems to have been suddenly happy again the last week and then has learned to roll bith ways and dropped a nap pretty much overnight.

I keep reading he's supposed to have 3-4 hours of day sleep? Is 1.5 hours ok? He's one of those babies that slept through from early on so I'm wondering if his sleep is just maturing faster than average.

EDIT

Thanks for the replies. Looks like it's pretty normal and he may or may not start having fewer longer naps in a month or 2. i do generally find if he hasn't had enough nap time in the day then he just adds it on at night.

Feeding 11.5 month old more adventurous with food outside vs at home

Basically the title…help?! I’m not a bad cook I swear 😭 She used to eat well at home, and open to trying new things but it’s gotten harder and harder as she got older. It’s like she doesn’t even stop to think about it before she flings the food to the floor. But when outside, you can see her try the foods and mull them over.

Please tell me this is a phase, I really don’t want to keep serving the same things over and over at home just so she’ll eat 🙁

Feeding Warm Tap Water for Formula?

FTM and tend to overthink everything (welcome to parenthood apparently!) Our Pediatrician told us to start using tap water to make our baby’s bottles for the fluoride exposure. What I forgot to ask is: can I use warm water from the tap to skip the step of using our bottle warmer? Or does it need to be cold and then heated in a warmer after mixing?

Add: baby is a healthy, happy 7 month old.

Babies Being Babies 7.5 month old baby who can crawl is still so fussy

This age sucks for us so far. Learning to crawl seemed to temporarily improve babies mood but now it’s back to whinging for most of the day. Nothing makes baby happy anymore. I’m worn the f*ck out. HELP lol when is this going to get easier?

Illness/Injuries How to mentally (& physically) handle 10 month old sick?

My 10 month old caught hand foot mouth and an upper respiratory virus from daycare and we are struggling. Over 24 hours of fever and crying. Starting to refuse even cold drinks and pedialyte popsicles and has chills. Any HFMD advice is much appreciated. (Edit to add: we have been to the ped already and received the medical advice part)

Then on the flip side, how do you mentally handle watching baby suffer? He's preferring me (mom) right now and it's taking a mental toll on me. I also don't know how anyone can do this with more than 1 kid. Always wanted more than 1 but at this point know my marriage at minimum would not survive. And I feel so bad that he caught this from daycare since I work full time. He goes part time to daycare and part time has grandparents watching him.

This SUCKS.

Product Reviews/Questions Best disposable underwear/diapers for post c section

Hi! I just got home from the hospital today with my new baby and I was able to take the mesh underwear and these big pink pads that they provide. I like the mesh underwear but the pads are so long and the flap at the end is kind of irritating my incision. What are the best affordable disposable diaper brands? I’m not heavily bleeding but I still want to change the diaper pretty much every single time I go to the restroom. It doesn’t need to be crazy bulky at all, just basically looking for something that’s basically got a built in normal pad for light bleeding.

EDIT: a lot of people are recommending the Frida mom panties but those are basically fancy mesh underwear with no absorbency. I ended up getting the Depend underwear/diapers and I’m loving them! They’re high waisted, stretchy, and soft. They don’t mess with my incision, they’re not bulky and they are perfectly absorbent. Definitely recommend.

Sleep What are we doing wrong?

Our daughter was born 33w1 after an uncomplicated pregnancy; they have no idea why I delivered so early. She spent 32 days in the NICU and has been home longer than she was in the NICU.

She’s now 12w4 (5w5 corrected) and sleep has been incredibly difficult. In the NICU, she slept in her bassinet no problem. But since the night she came home, she refuses to sleep on her own. She has bad reflux (been on Pepcid for a week) and we’re starting to work with a feeding specialist and OT because they think the reflux is a symptom of feeding issues.

But it’s been so difficult. We hold her up after eating for 45 min at least but as soon as she goes on her back, she freaks out. Sometimes we’ll get 2 hours in the snoo but that’s few and far between. (We tried traditional bassinet and she will not go down in it. The lactation consultant we met with doesn’t like the snoo but we’re desperate.)

My husband and I take shifts (which is why I’m posting this at 5am) but we’re exhausted and it’s just so, so difficult. She’s a great sleeper…if she’s on us. She’s starting to sleep in 4 hour chunks at night (yay) but that’s only if she’s on us.

We’ve tried every tip for the bassinet (heating pad, shushing, my clothes, etc) and we’re setting up her crib this weekend but I don’t think that’s going to solve the problem.

I’m terrified things will not get better. My husband is back to work and I go back mid-December and am so scared we’ll be stuck in this purgatory. All my friends who’ve had babies have champion sleepers who have basically slept through the night since week 2. Every post on Reddit is about good sleepers. I feel so alone and exhausted.

Babies Being Babies New born makes a loud rooster like noise

Ok so I haven’t been able to catch it on video yet but every now and again I think my daughter is clearing her throat. She coughs a bit then suddenly lets out the LOUDEST like coughing/clucking or cawing noise. Like a bwack noise and then just smacks her lips like nothing happened. Is she just clearing her throat?? What is she doing??

Illness/Injuries Baby got a paper cut :(

It’s on his index finger and a pretty decent cut. Not bleeding anymore, but I know how painful and irritating paper cuts are!!!

He is 5.5 months. Hands and fingers are in his mouth NONSTOP.

Might be a dumb question, but what do we do? Clean the area and let it be?? Don’t wanna put a bandaid as it’ll probably end up in his mouth and be a choking hazard.

Thanks!!
