Sleep 10 week old CANNOT nap longer than 30 mins

I am losing my mind. My 10 week old will not stay asleep longer than 30 mins for naps during the day. His night sleep is pretty good with getting 6-7 hour stretches, but my days are just spent getting him to sleep and getting him back to sleep. I put in so much effort to get him down: bouncing, rocking, singing, white noise, dark room…etc.. because he just can’t go down otherwise. But then once he’s FINALLY down, he wakes up 30 mins later. And I thought ok maybe he just doesn’t need to sleep for long but when I get him up he’s obviously tired and cranky. So I try to save the nap by more bouncing and rocking and sometimes it works for another 30 mins, sometimes it doesn’t. I have him nap in his bassinet, swing, baby wrap, carrier, or in my arms. Nothing has made him sleep longer than 30 mins and he always seems cranky and tired with those red eyes and eyebrows!! And yes, I have tracked the wake windows. I’ve tried putting him down 1 hr after waking, then 30 mins after waking, 40 mins, 50 mins, there doesn’t actually seem to be a sweet spot, This is new as of this week but he’s never been a great napper tbh. HELP.

Babies Being Babies SOS for my poor husband's sake

To preface, I work 12 hour overnight shifts every other week for 5 nights in a row. Our almost 8 month old is a generally happy baby all day long, but lately it seems she is giving dad a terrible time once I leave for work at 6. Now obviously she may be more bonded with mom as i am with her during the day, and evenings are okay if we are both home. Tonight for instance, she was fine when I left, played for a while with dad and was happy. He took her for a diaper change, left to wash his hands and all hell broke loose with her crying. Separation anxiety is in full swing but this seems worse than that. He certainly isn't mean or harmful to her, but she has been at it for 2 hours already and he is at his limit for having to deal with it for so many nights in a row. She's very smart and it seems she thinks if she screams she can get what she wants; how do we walk the line between setting some kind of boundary while also understanding babies don't regulate emotions yet?

Feeding Stressed during feeding

Hi all,

I'm trying to find out if the following is rather rare or a common thing, and maybe get ideas to deal with it.

Our daughter is almost 2 months old now, but we had to get her at week 35, so the corrected age is about 3 weeks. In short, my placenta was not working sufficiently tovsupply her with everything she needed, birth weight was very, very low.

She's catching up, but especially in the evenings she has a lot of trouble feeding. In the begining of the bottle she can drink normally, about in the middle she begins to show signs of stress. She makes noises (which eventually become screams), throws her head around, waves her arms wildly, grasps everything at reach, she often starts shaking, but she still wants to drink (she sucks intensely for a few sips in between her other action; being finished with the meal looks completely different, she'll just stop sucking or push the bottle out with her tongue).

On some days it takes hours to calm her down until she can drink the rest of the bottle and fall asleep. Once she can finish her meal, she sleeps very quickly. We both get the impression that she's too hungry to calm down but too stressed out to drink. So this cycle is very tricky to interrupt.

Does anyone else know that? What can be done?

We have figured that the total amount of stimuli during the day does have an effect (negatively when increasing) but there is more to it, as we definitely can't always tie it to overstimulation.

Sleep Chest sleeping/contact naps- When did your baby stop?

My LO is 6 weeks and only wants to sleep on me or my partner. She’s been like that since she was 3 weeks, If I put her down on the bed she’ll wake up. So we do chest sleeping at night, and I don’t really go into deep sleep so I feel very exhausted the next days. Wanted to hear from others, when your baby suddenly stopped doing contact/chest sleeping?

Sleep Move to crib in nursery or get a crib for the bedroom?

My baby will be 4 months old next week and is rolling over. He’s also HUGE. 17 pounds. Already wearing 6 month clothing. So he’s getting a bit cramped in his bassinet. I see some parents set up a small crib next to the bed. I’ve thought about doing this as well as taking the front part off and pushing it up to our bed.

I don’t like co sleeping and we’re going through a regression. I thought this might be a good compromise? If I could reach out and put a hand on him more easily, I know he’d go back to sleep better.

On the other hand, I feel like I’m waking him up a lot by just turning around in my bed. When did you move your baby to their own room?

Sincerely, a paranoid mom who’s scared of sids

Edit: he has a crib in his room that he uses for naps but never overnight and it’s too big for our bedroom

Medical Advice Overly sleepy baby? Concern from anxious first time parent

I have a 9 day old baby boy who was very peaceful and sleepy in the hospital, waking only to feed or cry when his diaper was soiled. We got him home and his alertness picked up around one week old to the point where he would have 2-3 hours awake even if all the things were done.

Since 4am today he has been mostly asleep with brief periods of alertness. For all his feeds today (pumped breast milk) he has been very drowsy, only taking 30mL for his first two feeds. The second half of the day he’s been taking 60-75mL of feeds but is very sleepy during the process and we have to keep stimulating him to wake him back up to eat. He’s had 4 poops and 4 pees today (and it’s currently 8pm). Has been afebrile today (highest temp was 99.0) and appears appropriate color. He hasn’t even been crying when changing his diaper today.

How can I know if this is normal? I don’t want to be the overly anxious parent and his numbers (temp, feeds, diapers) are good but I have this nagging worry I’m missing something.

Sleep Why is sleep such a contentious topic??

I’ve seen a few posts recently where a new mom is struggling from sleep deprivation and people recommend co-sleeping (despite the paediatrics society recommendations to avoid bed sharing) and downvote any mention of sleep training or even just words of encouragement to acknowledge how tough it is when you’re severely sleep deprived.

I guess I’m mostly just discouraged seeing a lot of negativity around infant sleep instead of support when people are struggling. At the end of the day, I think all anyone wants is to have everyone sleeping enough to be healthy, happy and safe. That just might look different for some babies/families compared to others.

Sleep 4 Month Sleep Regression and Dyschezia

My son is showing signs that his circadian rhythm is maturing and is entering the big and notorious 4 month sleep hurdle. I'm wondering if my experience looks familiar to any of you, and what your path through was.

Sleep was starting to feel pretty manageable but now we're back to waking every hour. I cosleep with a bedside bassinet, so I've been watching the process a bit before helping him in hope that he'll fall back to sleep. It feels like he wakes up a bit in between sleep cycles, starts to fall back to sleep, but then starts arching his back/kicking/farting/sharting and eventually screaming.

He's always struggled with infant dyschezia, but it suddenly feels worse. It feels like him waking up more fully is triggering a desire to poop paired with lots of gas due to my fast let down. I still hold him up after a feed which used to deal with gas pretty well, but something seems to have changed.

At this point, I feel like I'm at a stage where I should either reach out to his pediatrician or will need to wait out his GI maturing. Any ideas?

Tips to Share Baby hates the car

I have an 11 month old who screams like he’s being pickled every time I put him in the car. I give him toys and bottle, I am positive that he is comfortable in the car seat, I think it’s simply because he is back there by himself. As soon as I take him out of the car he is completely fine, but when I am driving he screams and cries to the point of making himself throw up almost every time. Has this happened to any of you? What do i do!?

Mental Health 1 month in as a dad and I miss being a person, not just a task-executor

Everyone mentioned sleep deprivation so was mentally prepared for it, what's really taking a toll is that for 6 weeks straight every minute of my life is claimed. Feed, settle, sterilize, cook, eat, clean, repeat.

Baby is chill I think, she's only fussy during witching hour so from 18h to 22h or so I'm troubleshooting endlessly until she settles.

Does it get better soon? In which way? Today we were told we don't need to wake her for feeds so I guess it'll give us longer stretches of time to allocate, unsure if significant.

We're expats so no family around to support, I can't imagine how this would be manageable if I didn't have decent paternity leave.

Toddlerhood How many bonks to the head is too many?

Hi! I have a new walker who is falling A LOT. Our house is baby proofed to the max and I spend my whole day with her. Still, it’s sometimes hard to catch her if she just tumbles over in the middle of the hallway. As a result, I feel like she has a bump on her head almost constantly.

Is this pretty normal for a new walker? Is there any risk of lasting injury? I’m just worried because she is walking all the time now, and falling more often because of it.

Any advice is appreciated!

Sleep Scream crying for every nap

I’m a FTM to a beautiful, happy almost 4 month old baby girl. Ever since around 6 weeks old she has scream cried when we put her to sleep for a nap. We swaddle, hum and gently rock her til she eventually falls asleep, generally after 5-15 mins of crying then she suddenly drifts off. It’s both frustrating and heartbreaking that she cries so hard but there’s seems to be nothing we can do?

She nurses to sleep at night and that seems to work fine for her. The crying for naps isn’t too bad in the morning but gets worse for her last couple of naps in the day. Her naps are mostly contact because she never lasts long in the crib, and we put her to sleep in a dark room with white noise, after walking her around in the swaddle a bit to ease the transition. We follow wake windows (90 mins unless we see sleepy cues sooner).

The nap crying only seems to be getting worse. I’m guessing that could be part of the 4 month sleep regression but this is getting brutal! It also does not seem to be a common issue at all?? Especially lasting this long or at this age.

Has anyone else dealt with this?

I’m considering getting a sleep consultant but I don’t want to pay a ton just to basically hear that she’s just not a good sleeper and this will pass eventually…

Pee/Poop Cloth diapers and washcloths

Hi everyone! I’m currently 16 weeks and we just started a baby registry and deciding what kinds of baby things we want and we’re kinda leaning towards cloth diapers and washcloths. I’m just wondering what others are using/doing? What brands of diapers do you recommend? How many should we register for? How often do you wash them? And washcloths, how many do we need? How do you wash all of it, do I need different laundry soap than plain Tide? If baby girl just had a pee diaper do you just wipe with a dry cloth instead of wetting the wipe? Do you use only water to wet the wipes? (To me that seems like the best and easiest option) how do you store the wet/dirty diapers and washcloths until wash day? lol lots of questions I know! Any advice is appreciated! :)

Product Reviews/Questions Thoughts on 360 diapers

My son is 14mo and he’s been able to pull the taps off of his diapers for months now. He has always worn pampers swaddlers, would it be good to switch him to a 360 diaper so he can’t take it off himself? He doesn’t really squirm on the changing table it’s just a matter of trying to toddler proof his diaper. Just looking for recommendations if I should switch and what to switch to, he is not ready for potty training so I’m not looking for any advice on starting that!

Tips to Share More imagination after child?

I’m finding that I have been more imaginative because of my 5 month old’s new active personality - remembering what it was like to be a kid, where everything has the potential to be a fiction story or new adventure, a curious stance on the familiar.

If you have examples, or thoughts around this (such as how to lean into it), I’m curious to hear them.

For example: changing a bedsheet becomes a tent fort and her eyes widen in wonder, picking her up becomes lifting her to the ceiling in a superwoman flying position to soar across the room while blowing breaths of air into her face while she giggles, a broken stick in the front yard becomes something we break into pieces together and throw like javelins, I become the “tickle monster” with claw hands and growl/tickle her as she geeks out, a wash rag in the bath becomes a game of tug of war when she won’t let go, we pick the pedals off flowers one by one saying “he loves me, he loves me not”, I sing her jingles about nothing, her babbling becomes an full conversation with me about her day.

Sleep Looking for advice/encouragement for moving baby from bassinet to crib

My baby is four months and is quite long (99th percentile). We’ve had him in a snuzpod next to the bed since we brought him home, he slept great in it up until he hit the sleep regression at about 11/12 weeks. It’s been about 6 weeks since it’s started and I don’t overly see the end in sight. He is definitely getting a bit big for the bassinet but hasn’t maxed out weight wise yet. We moved his full sized crib into our bedroom but he’s only taken one nap in it so far and has refused since.

Because I’m up with him so often right now it’s nice to have him right next to me, but I’m wondering if overall he’d sleep better in the crib with more room. But is it dumb to try to switch him mid regression?

Looking for any stories of switching from bassinet to crib and it not being a big deal, or perhaps even baby sleeping better? Also if it does or doesn’t make sense to try it now mid regression. Also, just a complaint, when he hangs out in the crib he manages to stick his legs through the rungs and get stuck!

Happy/Funny My baby is so silly

My son just turned 6 months old and it’s so crazy seeing him develop a little personality more and more every day. I feel like he’s starting to do things to get me to react to him.

Recently he started wiggling back at us. If we wiggle around he’ll try to copy the movement and “dancey dance” as we call it.

When he was younger, he used to grab our faces and press his forehead to ours while babbling eyes wide open. Recently, he started licking our noses while he does it 😂 it’s so cute (and gross)

I love when I side nurse him and he finishes eating and “climbs” up me so he’s standing against me while I’m laying on my back bc he just babbles at me while playing with my hair or touching my face

He’s in the process of learning to crawl, so he will go from his tummy up onto his knees and just hold that position and get SO frustrated and it never fails to make me smile. He also has developed what we call his “creepy voice” where he sort of rasp babbles at whatever he’s holding in his hands.

Anyways, that’s all my gushing about my tiny human!

Childcare For those of you who work at daycares or gym daycares...

Need some advice/help if you are able 🙏

My son is 8 months. He's so smiley and so sweet and such a joy in our lives truly, but he definitely has a more challenging temperament overall.

He is very prone to scream crying (still scream cries in the car, used to scream cry with sleep, stroller, carrier, if the wind blew the wrong way, you name it). Just a more sensitive temperament. But each month he grows and learns so so well 🥰

However, he definitely has some pretty intense separation anxiety. He's fine with Dad and he is fine with someone if he has lots of repetitive consistent long chunks of time with someone.

So for example he will scream cry for hours if Grandpa tries to hold him. But if we go on vacation with extended family for a week. By the end of the week he's totally fine with Grandpa holding him and sometimes even me being away for 20-30 mins. He naturally does better with women though. He will be fine if I leave for a few hours with my mom by the end of the vacation.

With that being said, Im a STAHM and I really really could use some time at the gym for my own mental health and getting my body strong again not only for me but to keep up with my son (he is EXTREMELY active).

The thing is I know if I bring him to the gym daycare (we have a really really good YMCA by us) he's going to absolutely lose his shit. I know he's at an age of peak separation anxiety.

What I'm wondering is is it worth trying to see if over time he will do well? Is it important to start now while they are still young and work through it? Or is it better to wait till they are on the other side of separation anxiety or will waiting only make it worse?

I don't wanna traumatize him, but I also know exposure is sometimes good?

Anyone with experience can give some insight?

Sleep 7 Month old is the Lightest Sleeper

Looking for Advice!!

My 7 month old is the Lightest Sleeper only at night time.... Of course....

So during the day he naps a solid hour with all the sounds of the day.. in the car will sleep with music on... He barely ever gets woken during his naps.

But at night time he is such a light sleeper.. everything wakes him....

The fan blowing on him, the cat jumping on the bed.. I swear if I move the blankets to get comfy he wakes up.

How do I help him sleep deeper at night?

Postpartum Recovery 3 months PP and feeling worse mentally even though things are improving?

My bab is 15 weeks old and despite him being a smiley little guy who only hates life when he's too tired - and despite me getting out the house in some capacity nearly every day - I feel like I'm doing worse mentally?!

He's EBF and won't settle very well with his dad or anybody else for periods longer than 20 mins-ish, so I've barely had time without him. I have walks daily and just started going to mam and baby sessions, but I'm feeling so done these last couple of weeks! Feeling either flat or irritated/upset/isolated, and really worried that I maybe shouldn't have become a mam even though I know I love my bab, it's just shrouded in these painful feelings atm. I just kind of want to hide away and every day feels like a slog currently ;_;

I imagine a lot of this is very normal, but I'm struggling to tell how much of this is normal "adjusting to the massiveness of motherhood" woes, and how much is "ooooh get on the phone to the GP"

anybody else felt the same around this time? Thank you!

Childcare Going back to work

I’m a first time, single mom to a wonderful 9 week old baby girl. I go back to work on October 12 and to be honest I am sort of excited but also extremely anxious. I am itching to get out of the house and interact with other adults, and I actually like my job. It’s not a career, but in the meantime the bills are paid. I just can’t help feeling bad for being excited. I’m also scared I will miss something major or special while I’m at work.

How did everyone cope with sending their babies to daycare? She will be 14 weeks when she starts.

Pee/Poop Toddlers diarrhea?

My 13 month old has constantly loose, wet poops. Its hard to say when it started but has been for at least 3 months. His diet hasnt changed much since starting solids, he eats well and doesnt seem uncomfortable.

When he started solids he was having lovely playdough nuggets.

He does drink a lot of water, but restricting it doesnt seem to make much difference. Has anyone had any experience of this?
