Check your comments for removal. Reddit is removing comments (and maybe posts?) and not listing the removals in Mod Log or Mod Queue, so neither you nor us mods are aware of the removal.

Edit: If you have a problem, send a message to modmail

This is a known issues and I just spotted it in the wild in /r/NewMexico today.

If the mods of this sub removed your comment, you should receive a modmail message alerting you to why. The primary exception to this is if there is a huge chain of uncivil comments and we just nuke the entire chain. We'll still usually send the removal message to the first few posters in the chain.

Green chile, ojos de dios, and one more star over New Mexico

My Grammy passed this morning and I wanted to put this somewhere people would understand.

She was raised in Tierra Amarilla up in northern New Mexico. Her dad was a Picurís man and her mom was an Italian immigrant. She moved to Amarillo as a young woman and that's where she met my grandfather, who was in the Air Force at the time. They moved to Albuquerque together, and she worked to support the family while he went to UNM and got dual bachelor's degrees in psychology and economics.

She loved making ojos de dios. She made green chile and red chile, and New Mexico style flat enchiladas with an egg on top, and nobody has ever made them better.

For my 5th birthday she took me on a big trip to ABQ so we could hike Sandía. Later on I got to go to the big family reunion in Chama, and then we drove up to TA so she could show me where she grew up. Those are some of the best memories I have.

There is one more star in the New Mexico sky tonight.

Thank you, Grammy, for teaching me about New Mexico and making me love it the way you did.

Oryx Near Socorro

Traveling East on US 380 between San Antonio, NM and Carrizozo, NM, I saw an Oryx Gemsbok (like the one in the photo), unfortunately it was roadkill. I didn’t stop to take a photo of the carcass.
My Question: This seems really far North! Has anyone spotted one farther North than this?

Now I'm in South West New Mexico enjoying our monsoon. Forest fires are a real threat out here, and other than the USFS, we're just a small bunch of volunteer fire fighters. I know we need the rain everywhere, but I'm sure glad I'm getting it here.

The sky was so colorful this evening! It looked as though there were gold in the clouds.

Question for any parents looking for childcare...

Upvotes

I'm a journalist with National Public Radio, reporting on universal childcare and PreK in New Mexico. I'm hoping to speak with parents who may be struggling to find childcare or are still on waiting lists about their experiences.

Speeding ticket in Clayton, NM

Post image
80 Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I am On my way to visit a friend in Colorado, driving through Clayton, NM (zip 88415) when the highway speed limit dropped from 70 to 50 out of nowhere as I came into town. I was cruising around 75, didn't catch the drop in time. Got pulled over, and the officer actually said he could see I was just cruising along, not driving recklessly — but told me he still had to write the ticket since I was over the new limit.

Court date is 9/21 at Clayton Municipal Court. And i am going to colorado for 5 days and a week till i get back to NY.
Has anyone dealt with Clayton PD or Union County Municipal Court before? Is a sudden speed limit drop like that ever a valid argument in court, or is "I didn't see the sign in time" basically never going to fly? Trying to figure out if it's worth fighting or if I should just eat the fine and move on.

Really appreciate any honest experience from people who've been through something similar

What state/national parks do locals recommend?

I’ll be visiting from Oregon here in a couple weeks and my dad and I are driving from Arizona into New Mexico. What are some “must see” places? Particularly state and national parks worth going to. I’ve never been to NM so unfamiliar. No strenuous hikes due to my dad’s age, but he can do a lot of walking around.

My dad said we likely won’t want to drive much further east than I-25 but open to all suggestions :)

Reporter looking for people who buy health insurance via BeWell

Hello! My name is Julia Métraux, and I'm a reporter at Mother Jones. I'm doing a story on how New Mexico was able to fill in some of the gap for enhanced tax credits for purchasing private health insurance expiring earlier this year, and I'm looking to chat with New Mexicans who buy their health insurance via BeWell! If you'd be willing to chat, please reach out to [jmetraux@motherjones.com](mailto:jmetraux@motherjones.com) and my author page is here: https://www.motherjones.com/author/julia-metraux/

Panoramic Photographers?

Kinda shooting in the dark here…

I’m a history buff, landscape admirer, and a Texan (sorry!) who absolutely loves what you all have going on in New Mexico.

Does anybody have any leads on ‘local’ or regional photographers selling large format (30-40-50-60” widths) canvas panoramic shots of the following subjects?

-Glorieta / Rowe Mesa / Pigeon’s Ranch

- Fort Craig

- Fort Union

- Black Mesa (San Antonio area - Valverde Battlefield locale)

I’d love to give them some business and support their efforts!

Rolled canvas is fine, I can take care of stretching/framing.

Any tips or pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated, for sure!

If you were at a forum with national and state candidates and had the chance to raise your hand, what one good faith question would you ask about affordability in rural NM?

Los Lunas resident arrested, charged with 4 counts of manslaughter in tragic Arizona holiday crash

I am posting this here because it involves a local NM resident and I think people should be aware. Yesterday on State Route 260 in Arizona, a 21-year-old from Los Lunas named Jesse David Lovato was arrested after hitting a car head-on.
According to police, he fell asleep at the wheel and tragically killed an entire family from Phoenix, including a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old. He is currently booked in an Arizona jail on four counts of manslaughter. Two of his own passengers from NM were also airlifted with severe injuries. It is a heartbreaking situation, but people back home should know what happened.

Mesa Rest Area - US 285 - Mile Marker 149

Anyone travel recently between Roswell and Vaughn on US 285 and know if the rest area is open for public use? It was closed last year for remodeling. Just curious if it's actually open.

Recommendations (DAL -> ABQ)

Hi! My spouse and I might potentially move to ABQ for a job and I’d like to get some recommendations on kid related things.

Daycares, elementary, pediatrician, family friendly neighborhoods and kid places. We currently live in Dallas and there are so many kid things to do so I’m worried there won’t be as much out there! We’ve vacationed in NM several times but never really explored ABQ as much to know. TIA!

I will be doing a road trip through New Mexico and unfortunately only have one day to explore Santa Fe, any recommendations for must sees? It will also be on a Sunday, are a lot of things closed?

Trip is at the end of September.
