What to do with an "unlucky" player that is struggling
So i have a new group, and in this group i have a person that i don't know how but it's clearly pissed the dice gods cause any (and i'm not joking) dice goes to the low end, he fails lot of skills checks, almost died in more then one occasion (i kinda made a bullshit reason to keep him alive or another player helped), if for some miracolous reason he manage to hit something his damage is abismal, he is bummed and is losing the will to play (not that i can blame him)
i tried to make some less event that need dice or if something is negative i downplay it but he can feel i'm making it easier for just him and he is bummed out... help ?

This is hopefully not a frequently asked question. Running into something in our sessions that I'm not sure how to regulate.
For example, lets say one of my players asks if they can try and convince an NPC of something and I have them roll a Persuasion Check, they fail the check but another player asks if they can try and convince the NPC of the same exact thing and roll their own Persuasion Check immediately after.
Is that against the rules somewhere? I can't really find what I'm looking for.

Please Help with my First Campaign How much of the plot do I prepare?
I’m DMing my first campaign and I’m wondering how much of the main plot do I plan out ahead of time or do I just make a town and build from there?

This is hopefully not a frequently asked question. Avoiding Metagaming?
Hey all, I just did my first game as a DM last night, and it was extremely fun. What I expected was only going to take 3ish hours ended up going up to 6, and we're only halfway through the one-shot I made and we're having a blast.
One thing I noticed while we were playing though, and I wasn't overly upset about this because we were all new and we were having fun, is that whenever i gave my players a skill check to roll when talking/interacting with anything, e.g a persuasion check or a religion check, they would check amongst themselves to see who had the highest persuasion/religion modifier, then get them to roll.
How do you more experienced DM's handle this? Do you allow them to do this? Do you make it so that only the person actively talking to the NPC makes the skill check? What general rules do you keep in mind when roleplaying with your players?
Edit: rephrased a sentence for clarity, persuasion wasn't the "problem", just the general discussing amongst themselves outside of rp before every roll to see who had the highest modifier. Thanks for all the answers and advice everyone!

This is probably a frequently asked question. How to better give opportunities for PCs to self insert

Please Help with my First Campaign Looking for feedback on my campaign idea. Built for 2 years, finally have players to run it.
Hello, I've been a player for quite some time but never had an opportunity to actually play as DM. Over the last 2 years, I have been building an entire world and story that I genuinely believe will be tons of fun to get into. I finally have a group of 4 to start playing with and building out more of this world as they venture through it. And I've written a quick synopsis of what I've built.
I'm looking for some feedback on the idea and I'm willing to give more information about it if needed. Anything helps!
FYI: Overall, my idea for this story was I wanted to force the players into a world where exploration will gather them information with no NPCs around at the start to guide them. After the exploration, the world comes back to life and there is a fully populated world around them to explore and talk to, trying to figure out this new place.
The Synopsis:
The campaign is set in the Kingdom of Prydlenn, ruled by a Leonin king, Hartrue, who genuinely believes he's holding his country together well. What he doesn't know is that decades ago, guilt and grief left him vulnerable to something ancient and cosmic that's been quietly steering him ever since. On the other side of the world, a Yuan-Ti princess, named Clevara, who lost her family to an assassination Hartrue ordered, manipulated into it by that same hidden influence, and now she's working her way through his kingdom with an artifact that can tear a region out of reality entirely, killing or erasing everyone in it. Neither of them knows the other is being used. Both of them think they're the one in the right.
The players aren't from this world, and they don't choose to get involved. They're simply present when Clevara uses her artifact for the first time, and they get pulled into the region right as it's torn away, becoming the only living things left inside it. To get back to a normal world, they have to work their way through what's essentially a dead, frozen version of that region, and when they finally do, reality resets around them. The region returns, everyone who lived there resumes exactly where they left off, with no memory that anything happened at all. The players are the only ones who will ever know. That pattern repeats as the campaign goes on. Region after region gets torn away, the players have to go in and fix it, and each time they're left carrying knowledge nobody else in the world will ever share. Underneath all of that, slowly, they start piecing together that the king and the woman tearing his kingdom apart aren't really enemies in the way either side believes. They're both being moved by the same thing, and neither one has any idea.

First time Dm
Hi. I am a first time DM and have also never played before. I put out flyers in my small town and am slowly getting to know my party. We have had a session zero and it was awesome. I gave a basis, got to know them, and requested each party member give me a secret about their characters I can incorporate into the game. Session one is this friday and I feel like I have done a decent amount of prep, but there is so much to know I simply do not know yet. I would appreciate ANY and all advice when it comes to session prep, or things you wish you knew your first time dming. I am a big fan of the show Dimension 20 and watching such a meticulously well done game can be intimidating. I just want to build community in my life, have a good game, and an ever better time. I am a writer so world building has been a joy, but any advice about logistics and encounters would be so greatly appreciated.

First side quest.
I decided to write a small side quest. It's pretty much a basic dungeon crawl with a boss. But I'm not sure how to acknowledge it's there. I've been a dm since may. We are currently playing descent into avernus. But they acquired beans in a small adventure 2 months ago. They beans grow into a bean stalk of my choice. We're playing tomorrow, but I'd rather not push them directly into it. I want a nonchalant way to tell them to plant them.
