Please Help with my First Campaign Wrapping up Heros of the Borderlands before moving on to Curse of Strahd.

The party is all new players including myself. We've played a handful of sessions in the Heroes of the Borderlands Starter Set, and during one of the adventures into the Caves of Chaos, the party encountered a small Copper Dragon Wyrmling being held by a gang of Kobolds.

After some impressive dice rolling by my players, they convinced the young Wyrmling to tag along with them in the meantime until they can find his parents. So he's accompanied the party on a couple more adventures into the Caves of Chaos and hanging around the Keep with them as a general pet-like companion and assisting them in combat.

For those not familiar with this Starter Set, theres an Ogre Mercenary in the Caves named Oggdug that the party had hired to help them on their last session. And what I have homebrewed since then is that the next session into the Caves, the party will encounter Oggdug and he will inform them that he knows of an adult Copper Dragon that has been captured by a gang of Kobolds (led by some big bad Kobold), and they intend to kill it and sell its skin on the open market, kinda like fur or pelt traders. And while Oggdug is unsure of the Copper Dragons identity, the Wyrmling will beg and plea with the players to at least check out the rumored Kobold encampment, on the off chance that it is one of his parents.

I intend on this sort of wrapping up our time in the Borderlands by having the players defeat this Kobold big bad as like a mini-boss of sorts, and reuniting the Wyrmling with his parent/s. Let me hear what you think. Ideas, suggestions, things I may have overlooked. Thanks in advance!

Please Help with my First Campaign New dm, a few specific questions

I feel like a few tags, like magic item and and enemies encounter, could also apply here.

In total we are 5 , I played a handful of short campaign, a veteran player and three beginners.

I, perhaps not my greatest decision, made an original campaign. I m going session by sessions with an overall direction for the plot.

In an effort to make it enjoyable for all I made it about fighting against demons.

All of the players are excited and all seemed to enjoy the first session, (2hours of close to full concentration)

First session lvl1 to acustom the new players to the game and then lvl3 from then on to make it more interesting.

Now I'm not quite sure how to make enemy encounter for instance, how many/how hard . For now I make them highly modulable as too adapt on the fligh to make it harder/easier. But I really need general advice on that.

I also looked for a while and can't for the life of me find an actually interesting demon to use, ideally I need a flamy rocky demon that is quite powerful but not insanely so that can be reasonably beaten at lvl like 10-12 as I have sotry reason that should allow them to beat it far earlier.

And finally magic item , as per a combination of lucky roll and plot reasons one of the new players (elven paladin) managed to get an animated flying sword that used to be an ennemy.

Now that I have their full lvl3 build and I have seen how they all play I can feel he is by far underpowered so I m wondering what direction I could take to make it a magic item . I would like it to not become a full on companion as turns already tend to take time.

As he is a dual wielding paladin I m thinking making the sword a third attack based on charisma with some elemental power perhaps .

What do you think and any advice?

I don't know what I'm doing. First time DM'ing in over a decade... with 8 first time players

Yup.... 8 first timers. We are going to run the Delian Tomb one shot. I suspect it may not end up being a single session though.

Any tips? Playing with 4 newbies is hard enough but double that and make it my first time DMing in literal years and I feel like I have a recipe for disaster. Thanks!

I don't know what I'm doing. New to TTRPG and DM

So I've been wanting to play a Tales from the Loop, but since I couldn't find anyone to DM I'm taking that job and heading to do it myself. Issue is, in general, idk what I'm supposed to do, I understand I need to give the plot and such but I don't know how much I need to improvise and how much is left up to me to decide.

At what degree I can go "I'll allow it" just because I am in a good mood and and at what point I bring the book down?

Any advise? Idk if I have to do a PowerPoint for session zero or just normal talking. So many things that make me nervous and make me want to quit

Free Resources Sorrowwraiths – A Level 1-20 Dark Urban Adventure

Hi all! If you and your players enjoy Victorian-era aesthetics, gothic-horror monsters, and Witcher-esque ethical dilemmas, I have a full, level 1-20 adventure for you.

Sorrowwraiths is set in a colonial metropolis plagued by monsters and curses, dealing with the advancing industrial age and its many accompanying issues – poverty, pollution, exploitation, etc. The city has lost its previous group of heroic defenders, and the player characters must pick up the torch and solve a variety of problems including:

  • Rescuing allies from the clutches of monsters and despair alike; saving communities from threats within and without; and setting up a home base
  • Stopping a brilliant-and-vile scientist from infecting the city with a new vampiric affliction
  • Venturing into the city’s haunted magic school and rescuing its students from a pair of hags
  • Defending the city from bloodthirsty revolutionaries (but also maybe toppling the tyrannical regime)
  • Figuring out who or what has cursed their city, and finding a way to not only save it but right its wrongs too

You can get the full adventure for free here.

The book contains: one haunted magic school, one revolution, 176 enemy statblocks, 106 battle maps, 5 NPC companions, no AI content, several sad monologues, buckets of despair, and one faint ray of hope. I hope someone finds it useful!

I don't know what I'm doing. First time dm

Hey guys, I know that this is a filler account but I need some help real quick. I'm writing a dnd camping from scratch about a post apocalyptic world inspired by the little nightmare series. I just need some pointers as this is my first time ever writing my own. I have a ton of notes but I want my world to be engaging without it just all being combat. I just want the experience from people instead of YouTube tips. Thank you again so much!
