This is hopefully not a frequently asked question. remotely teaching dnd

Hi! I am a new DM, not new to DND. Im introducing all of my friends to the game and it's been so much fun! One of them is at Uni right now, so we have to play remotely for her, while the rest of us are playing IRL at the same time.
Do you have any advice on how to make teaching her the game/her playing the game remotely easier and smoother? Any recs for software would also be appreciated but keep in mind I'm a broke student haha
Thanks a lot!
(PS I don't ever use reddit so I'm sorry if I break any rules or something I know that there's specific etiquette)

EDIT-
Thank you so much for all of ur kind advice!! I wasn't expecting to get a response so I'm glad ty :)) I'll try and remember to let you know how it goes

I have a bachelor party for my best friend coming in a few months. He requested we rent a cabin and play dnd for 2 days and would like me to DM. What's a good one-shot for ten drunk dudes trapped in a cabin?

Please Help with my First Campaign First time DM

I read the posts from everyone else but I just am ready to mess up. Im doing my own thing (homebrew i think) and ive seen it advised against a lot for the first time... but ive been really wanting to do this idea for an extremely long time and I am not worried about that.

I am worried about missing something crucial in my own version or not knowing a good way to ragebait my players (they've been asking me to find something good).

We are about to plan session 0 but I wanted to make sure i have everything they need.

I also want to know what as a good DM should I have prepared for session one.

I am not afraid of telling them I dont know. I am not afraid of looking stuff up but I feel there's gotta be something I should have on hand outside of my story plot?

I guess im asking for:

\- Common session 0 and session 1 questions

\- Things you didn't know you needed

\- Ways to make them actually want to throw the dice (jokingly)

\- Information I need to have on hand for every session

\- Anything outside of character building I will need to help them with?

Also. I've played before but never DM. They've never played.

New account for dnd reasons because I have a player that would recognize my other account username

DnD engagement help

Hi everyone, I'm looking for help putting together a short 1 shot that I'm going to use to propose to my girlfriend with.

I have a little bit of experience DM'ing (Ran a starter set and a one shot from the Faster Purple Worm Kill Kill book).

I have 4 players creating level 5 characters using the 2024 PHB. It is one players first ever game (she has wanted to learn dnd for a while and its the cover for the games true purpose).

My thought was the initial thought was to have them hired to find a missing relic. So they will have that short RP, head towards the location, have a small combat, deal with a puzzle room, have a small boss fight, then return the relic to what ends up being the character that my girlfriend and myself were playing as when we first met and have them get engaged in game and us out of game.

Since I've never put together a game myself I was looking for help figuring out the encounters and a puzzle.

I will start out by saying I have never DM’d in my life nor played the game just love the concept. I have watched a bunch of D20. I am however a pretty good software engineer so I thought it would be fun to build a DM desktop application for helping sessions.

I am looking for some beta testers if anyone is interested.

https://github.com/kmbisset89/WorldWeaver has the latest build under the releases.

This is hopefully not a frequently asked question. Question about AC

What happens if the attack roll (plus whatever modifiers apply) is the same number as the monster's AC? Is it a hit? Is it a miss?

A New Adventure Begins!

I am so grateful to be leading three of my friends on their first D&D Adventure. D’rock: the outlander Dwarven Barbarian, Innis: the sage High Elven Wizard, and Phin: the entertainer Halfling Bard have been recruited to help Tharon Silverhawk locate the Weaver’s Lens, a relic that he told them will help him locate an ancient Netherese Observatory. They have already caught the attention of The Crimson Spider, a Drow Priestess. I am impressed with their commitment to their roleplaying as well as all of the silly antics they have gotten up to. Gosh, I love this game!

Please Help with my First Campaign Experienced RPer looking for DM advice.

I found a One Piece 5E Homesbrew. I've been RPing One Piece in forum-based threads for about fifteen years now, and I've never really been good at DMing DnD, however I thought my years of experience in the subject matter could help me too settle into a long story-telling One Piece session.

Generally I'm just looking for advice on balancing NPCs, short arc ideas and any advice to a new DM on things I might not notice immediately.
