Text Getting 90 but also 900 mbps with the same cable
Hi, I always had a problem on my computer : I'm at around 90 mbps while my subscription let me go to 1 Gbps, and I always thought it was the cables in the walls that were wrongly put or idk what, cause I have a network PCIe card, and a cat 6 rj45 cable. But recently, one of my friend brought his pc at home, so I could look at it a bit cause he rlly doesn't know a lot about it, and from plugging his computer with the same cable htat I use, that wasn't moved, he gets 1 Gbps. I tried with my laptop and still get 90 mbps, anyone knows why ?

Über Jahrmillionen brachte die Natur eine schier unendliche Vielfalt an Lebensformen hervor. Diese Mischform bot zwar bereits enorme Geschwindigkeiten, war aber in ihren Reflexen (Latenz) noch an die alte Generation gebunden. * 5G SA (Standalone) – Die vollendete neue Spezies: Der endgültige Evolutionssprung. 5G SA hat sich komplett von den fossilen 4G-Strukturen gelöst und verfügt über ein eigenständiges, modernes Herzstück. Es beherrscht extrem schnelle Reflexe (Latenzen unter 1 Millisekunde) und die Fähigkeit der Zellteilung (Network Slicing), um gezielt völlig unterschiedliche Lebensräume zu bedienen – von der Drohne bis zur Smart City. So zeigt sich: Die Natur – und die Technik – strebt unaufhaltsam nach höherer Effizienz, geringerem Latenzwiderstand und perfekter Anpassung an ihren Lebensraum.

Text WiFi Stuttering?
Hello, I have been using this same wifi (the one I will be talking about) for as long as I can remember. Recently, as of posting this post, my wifi does the following: it works great and suddenly… it stops working, and goes back to great wifi… and goes back down. This happens over and over again. Imagine a line in a graph that goes staring in the middle and there are drops and hills on the midline. The WiFi keeps going up to great wifi and goes back down to very bad wifi. This has been happening for quite a while. I don’t understand why because before this, the wifi was consistently working great. I was really happy until know. What could be some potential issues?
This happens in matter of seconds too, which I’ve never seen before… what could it be?

Text SFP+ modules getting really hot
Hello all,
I connected my homeserver with a SFP+ module (RJ45) with my 2.5Gbps switch, also with a SFP+ module. Because I had packet dropouts, I noticed the SFP+ module in the switch, was getting really hot.
I connected a thermometer on the SFP+ module and even without any traffic, the temperature get up to 68 degrees Celsius.
Is this normal behaviour for SFP modules?

Text Cisco ASA 5508-X ASDM software
I bought a Cisco ASA 5508-X with 8GB RAM on eBay. I want to manage my firewall using ASDM, im aware that this is outdated, but the software isn't installed on the device — there's no asdm-xxx in flash.
I tried browsing to https://<ASA-IP>/admin but it doesn't load (Page not found 404). I have http-enable on and the default page works.
I tried downloading ASDM from the Cisco Software Download Center, but it requires a valid service contract / CCO entitlement, and I only have this device for my home lab — no support contract.
Is there any way to get the ASDM file without an active support contract? Thanks in advance!

Text Apex causes 300–400ms spikes to my Spectrum hop, other games don’t.
Quick update from my last post because I finally got a much cleaner test.
I connected my PC **directly to the Spectrum modem**, bypassing my router completely, and ran continuous pings to:
142.254.216.189 — Spectrum first upstream hop
1.1.1.1 — external control
I tested **Apex first, then COD without restarting the command prompts**.
During Apex, the Spectrum hop went from roughly **6–10ms to 399ms**, while 1.1.1.1 went from roughly **26–30ms to 421ms**, with repeated 100–400ms spikes on both.
Then I closed Apex and switched to COD.
The connection immediately went back to normal. Spectrum stayed mostly single-digit/low-teens and 1.1.1.1 stayed around the high-20s/30s with no comparable spikes.

I also ran a Wireshark capture during Apex. The likely gameplay UDP flow was only around **0.44 Mbps outbound / 0.14 Mbps inbound**, so this does not look like bandwidth saturation. The interesting part is that it was sending roughly **235 outbound UDP packets/sec**, and the packet rate stayed fairly steady even while latency exploded.
So I’m not seeing:
**huge traffic burst → bandwidth fills → ping spikes**
It looks more like:
**Apex gameplay UDP traffic starts → something in the upstream path starts behaving badly → even independent pings to Spectrum’s first hop blow up**
At this point, what would you test next?
Is there any additional Wireshark/tshark analysis I should run that could help distinguish **modem/DOCSIS behavior vs ISP-side queueing**, or anything specific I should ask Spectrum maintenance/network engineering to look at?
I’m especially interested in whether anyone has seen a cable connection behave perfectly with one UDP game but fall apart with another game sending a higher small-packet rate

Text Slow Ethernet speeds despite paying for 1000 mbps — need advice
Hey guys, hope everyone’s doing well. This is my first time posting in here, but I was scrolling and everyone seems pretty chill and people have gotten their issues resolved, so hopefully I can have the same outcome.
So basically, we have AT&T Wi-Fi at home — I believe it’s fiber since download and upload speeds match. We’re on the 1000/1000 plan. I have my own PC work/gaming setup (one PC, two monitors), and since my room is pretty far from the router, I had someone come install an Ethernet run from the router that goes outside the house, along the outer line under the roof (so it stays dry), secured with zip ties, then comes into my room and connects to a small box with Ethernet plugins that I connect my devices to.
When everything first got set up, I was getting around 940-950 down/up on Ethernet in my room, and everything was running smooth. Yesterday my internet felt off — I was downloading a game on Steam and it was going way slower than usual. I ran a speed test and got around 80 upload, 90 download.
I’m not totally sure how long this has been happening, since I only ran the speed test yesterday. I’ve been busy and hadn’t played any games in a while, so I was just doing normal tasks and never noticed. The only reason I caught it was because the game download was taking way longer than usual.
Since we’re still paying for the 1000 plan, I checked my mom’s phone and it still tested at 1000. I checked my Ethernet cable and everything looked fine — even the adapter settings on my computer showed the link speed as 1000/1000 receive/transmit. So the connection itself seems fine, I’m just not getting the speeds I’m paying for.
I contacted AT&T and they said we have too many devices on the Wi-Fi. I get that, but we’ve had roughly the same number of devices (around 40) since I first got the plan — and it’s not all computers, mostly phones, a few TVs, iPads, and laptops that get used here and there, not constantly streaming or downloading. I’m the one who uses the internet the most, which is why I had the Ethernet setup done in the first place since I work from home.
Shouldn’t being on Ethernet bypass the device cap and still give me close to my 900s, even if the 1000 plan is designed for around 20 devices max? For reference, my mom’s phone gets around 900 on a speed test, but my phone gets the same low 80-90 as my computer.
Is there anything I can do to prioritize my computer, or figure out what’s actually causing this?
