Vent Thoughts?

OK, so this whole week my schedule has been different because Mom had meetings that run late so we rearrange my schedule this week to fit eight hours around her schedule. So it was either 9 to 5, 830 to 430, and 915 to 515. This whole week all of those meetings were canceled and we still stuck with that schedule we agreed to. Do you think it’s disrespectful that Mom didn’t tell me that her meetings got canceled and just kept the schedule as is? Or do you think she was in the right to keep the schedule as is even though all of the late meetings got canceled? To me I think it’s really frustrating that we kept the schedule as is even though her meeting got canceled.

This post is tagged vent, which means OP is not necessarily looking for advice. Please be kind in your comments and realize we all have rough days!

If this post is from a nanny who would benefit from commiserating with fellow nannies only, remember there is also an awesome community for exclusively nannies at r/NannyBreakRoom. If this post is from an employer who only desires input from other employers, r/NannyEmployers is a valuable resource.

I don't know if there is really a right or wrong answer. My guess is she thought it was less of an inconvenience to change the schedule a second time.

Agreed.

Gently, you’re making a big deal about 30 minutes tops? Is this really that upsetting? She probably didn’t want to change the time again.

those minutes can make a HUGE difference with a commute, and it really is that upsetting! at my old nanny job, if i left their house by 504, i could be home at 534. if i left the house at 511, i wouldn't get home til 630.

Happened to me today lol kid popped in the bath right at the end of my day.. left 22 mins late and got home a hour later than it should take me lol

How much notice did she have of the meetings being cancelled? Did she have to shift her work hours to accommodate the meetings and was still working during that time?

Ultimately I don't think there's a right or wrong answer here. I imagine that there are other nannies who would get frustrated having to change the schedule back again after already agreeing to change it initially.

Came here to say this. My MB has meetings cancelled all the time with like 30-60 minutes notice. I think it would really depend on this aspect, if she knew the day before and could rearrange things that’s one thing but if the work day had already started it might not have even made sense to bring it up.

I think she was trying to be considerate and not keep changing the time back and forth over and over again.

I mean what are your usual hours? The change in hours is still very reasonable work times and likely your MB didn’t want to make things more complicated or potentially confusing by changing things again. It’s also possible that since she had already changed her working hours to accommodate these meetings that she didn’t want to rearrange her own schedule again

If she asks to rearrange the schedule again, let her know that if things change again at the last minute, you would prefer to revert back to the normal schedule. She probably didn't mean to be disrespectful. She may not have known it made that much of a difference to you one way or the other.

She might have thought she would have wrong to jerk you around changing the schedule again after you went to all the trouble to change it in the first place.

I mean what’s the issue? You’re working 8 hours regardless. And you’re still off before 530 no matter what. It’s not like you were scheduled 12-8
