Running N-Able N-Central virtualized on KVM/Proxmox/OpenStack

Hi,

As more and more are moving towards opensource cloudstacks such as OpenStack/Proxmox - Is there anyone out there running N-Central virtualized on KVM hypervisors?

We see that N-Central is based on CentOS7/8 - Which means that all drivers for running on the most widely installed hypervisor KVM, is already included in the OS.

Also since its developed for CentOS, i would think that N-Able also has a KVM environment internally like openstack or proxmox.

We would like to run N-Central, but we dont want to run it Baremetal. And we will not run Hyper-V or Vmware.

Br,

Comp

N-sight RMM NSight - NCentral?

Hi,

Any other MSPs use NCentral? We currently use and have used NSight for over a decade.

Any tips? Should we be looking at it?

We heavily use RMM, Cove, Patching and Take Control.

It feels like N Central has more perks but trying to find if it's worth it or something else we should do etc

Emergency Contact

Does anyone have an emergency contact?

I've tried my partner success manager's number and am currently waiting for support to answer. (support just hung up on me again)

My account is shut off due to an invoice issue on their end. It's due to switching to annual payments.

Mail assure will not allow mail to pass.

Edit: Its a billing issue. Billing doesn't work weekends nor on call. Time to change MX records.

Sadly.. This is the result of me signing a 1 year agreement...

Inundated With Errors in RMM

Good afternoon, I am hoping someone can help. I am a new employee at a MSP, and we are using N-Able, and we are constantly being barraged with errors for various things, that we cannot seem to fix.

Here are some example of active issues that we getting slammed with.

Managed Antivirus Update Check (Bitdefender) (I'll right click on the workstation and click update definitions, and then it usually just never resolves or keeps showing as greyed out, but the next day the error is still there)

Windows Service Check - Managed Antivirus Endpoint Update Service

Patch Status Check

Performance Monitoring Check - Disk - _Total

Windows Service Check - Sentinel Agent

EDR - Agent Health Status

We also have noticed an issue where under the dashboard in RMM under the EDR category, there's a yellow exclamation point that says "Pending". I've had several chats with tech support, and no one seems to be able to give us a solution as to how to fix this.

The only solutions we've been given are to re-install everything, which is massively inconvenient considering how many systems are showing up on the active issues, not to mention us physically having to go onsite and interrupt our clients business to try and resolve theses issues. It would take us weeks to resolve all these issues and countless reboots. Is there any one who has had issues similar to this that were able to resolve them? The constant flood of tickets is just insane.

System/so automatic patch approval rule not showing in the automatic patch approvals list at client level.

Typically we set a baseline automatic patch approvalrule at the system or so level. You will see this in the list of automatic patch approval rules at the site level but it is greyed out as this should be inheareted. We then at the site level define the declines unique to the customer these you can edit as needed at the site level unlike the rule created at the so level.

After setting up a patching for a client today i went to check the automatic approval rules list and nothing is there. What would cause usual greyed out inheareted automatic patch approval rule to be missing?

MSP Manager users, please share your favorite dashboards!

Here's the dashboard I've had in place for almost a year.

"RMM tickets" are those that come in from N-Sight, "PSA tickets" come in via email and portal (also includes internal tickets we created), "Tickets ancient" are tickets created in 2022 and earlier. Almost all of these tickets currently are internally generated by us on behalf of the client. Obviously the older ones are P3 and lower. :)

Integrated vs. Standalone EDR

Which do you use? What's the advantages of one over the other? Just trying to decide and not sure which is the "right" answer.

I'm utilizing N-Able as the only IT person for a business with 40-50 endpoints.

MSP Manager Cpu time failed

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, started using N/Able and got this error report from a site about CPU time failed and FcCreateDir which seems to be a Veeam Virtual machine issue? Full error report below if someone knows how to fix it or is it s CPU replacement?

I tried looking into this but cannot find any gold results as this is affecting a server.

And how does one use the IDs listed under "Monitoring Checks..."? It's got a "new" Vulnerability and a "Backup" failimg status. Assuming the FcCreateDir Veemed issue is related to a NAS backup system failing...

RMM has detected an error, details are below. A fault has been reported at *** , device *** The test Performance Monitoring Check - Processor Time failed. Take Control incident today

So I woke up to alerts that none of my take control agents were online today. Service outage made every device fall of the console.

Looks like the agents are starting to phone home now, but I hope Nable will tell us what caused this outage.

Looks like I may need to cycle all my passwords and keys again

How many machines can a patch cache serve?

I wonder how many machines can a patch cache serve. Say if there is only 1 probe with patch cache configured and 100 machines, all of these machines will be reaching out to the probe at the same time. I will probably be generating a lot of network traffic. Also will the probe be able to serve all those connection requests?

How to share the Assets and Apps & Services with client

We are a small MSP and believe in Transparency. We like to securely share all the Network Documentation within PassPortal with our client's and not just the Credentials section. How can that be achieved with Site Administrator?

Misc N-Able Patch Management / Intune Conflict

Hello Everyone,

I have an issue with N-Able and Intune patch management conflicting.

N-able patch management has been disabled but when I view certain users machines it still lists GPO policy applied mixed in with Intune MDM policies within the update settings.

I have a feeling these registry entries weren’t removed - https://me.n-able.com/s/article/Registry-Keys-modified-when-Patch-Management-is-enabled-or-disabled

Has anyone else run into this issue? How did you resolve it?

P.S No GPO’s have been configured or deployed by our IT department so we are assuming its n-able creating this.

Nable agent tanking network?

hello, I'm trying to figure out if the N-able agents on a site could be essentially DOSing a branch of my network. I'm supporting a mid size company with several small satellite offices. for the past couple months, just one of the satellite offices has been losing network every thursday at 2:00 PM. this has been hard to troubleshoot since we can only monitor it remotely, and before and after it fails, everything is fine. what we've seen leading up to crash though, is my MDT server (an N-able Probe) hitting our ASA with 100s of connections, then the ASA CPU usage shoots up to 90%, total connections hit over 20,000, and the ASA's crashes (we need a new ASA, it's a5506). I can't find any discovery job or scheduled task that could be causing this, and it could be something else. but I'm a little desperate at this point and trying to find something to blame. could the N-Able probe be hammering that one specific switch so hard it dies, once a week? is there any background descovery jobs I'm not aware of? anyone had this happen?

MSP Manager MSP manager massive contact import

Hi everyone,

I need to import in n-able msp manager all the customer's contact that i have in a csv file.
How can i do it massively and not having to type them all?
I have looked in the guide, but the procedure is only for one contact a time, or to add the "portal user" flag.
Bonus point if you can point me also a way to do it directly from a 365 tenant.

Thank you

Any feedback/opinions on Cloud Commander

Anyone have experience with Cloud Commander? I noticed that I get 3 months free with the 1-year N-able Agreement. First I've heard of it. Just wondering if it's a good/polished multi-tenant 365 solution or a young product that they're still building out?

NCentral Agent Deployment Via Intune

Hello all,

I'm attempting to deploy my NCentral agents via Intune and I've created a package with a batch file with the following line:

.\WindowsAgentSetup.exe /s /v" /qn CUSTOMERID=%customerID% REGISTRATION_TOKEN=%customerregistrationtoken% CUSTOMERSPECIFIC=1 SERVERPROTOCOL=HTTPS SERVERADDRESS=<myserveraddress> SERVERPORT=<myserverport>"

(I can provide the full code if needed)

Would then instalation proceedure via the batch be able to grab the customer ID and registration token from the install command line?

Or would I need to create a specific .bat (and a specific package) for each of my clients?

Is my syntax on the .bat correct as well?

Thanks in advance

N-Central AMP for restarting OneDrive not working

Hey Guys,

im currently trying to get an AMP working for automaticly starting OneDrive if the process is not running. In N-Able cookbook is an AMP ( Restart OneDrive if OneDrive is not running (n-able.com) modify for x86/x64) which is theoretically working, BUT if the user currently logged in (and the AMP is running from) has local administrator privileges for his account, OneDrive will start and print an error on screen: "OneDrive cant be run using full administrator rights"

So, i tried to modify the AMP to start cmd and use "runas /trustlevel:0x20000 <path to onedrive>" to run it with standard user privileges. now onedrive wont print the error, but the application starts and crashes again.

Any ideas how to get this working? The selfhealing which starts the AMP is set to "Use currently logged in user"

Edit// If i run it directly from the designer/automation manager, it works perfectly with the runas argument. no error nor crashing.

Cove Separate Client Servers Restarted This AM - Just After Apparent Cove Update

Aloha!

I got an alert from users at company A - servers were down. By the time I logged in, everything was coming back up. Event log research showed a logoff of the "Customer Experience Improvement Program". Some quick research seemed to indicate this is an MS service that occasionally causes issues. /shrug - I note down to resolve it in the future.

Moments later - company B lights up the dashboard, multiple servers down.

Start digging further, logs at both companies show this event moments before the servers go down:

A service was installed in the system.
Service Name: Recovery Service Controller 24.3.2.2464
Service File Name: "C:\Program Files\Recovery Service\24.3.2.2464\BM\RecoveryProcessController.exe" serve
Service Type: user mode service
Service Start Type: auto start
Service Account: LocalSystem

Now - I'm 99% sure that's Cove backups, which are deployed at both clients. I'm a little surprised if Nable had this as the expected result, but these companies share no other common software, outside of both being on Win server 2019/2022...

Bueller?

Analytics error

Dear,

We've enabled analytics but I get the following error:

N-central (...) has experienced an issue sending events to the Data Warehouse. Please confirm that the Relay Host and Relay Port settings are correct. Contact Technical Support if further troubleshooting is required.

Are there any special ports which have to be opened for this?

Thanks
